LAGOS STATE AUDIT SERVICE COMMISSION HOLDS SENSITISATION PROGRAMME FOR STATUTORY AUDITORS
The Lagos State Audit Service Commission has organised a Sensitisation Programme for Statutorily Exiting Auditors as part of efforts aimed at preparing retiring officers for a seamless transition into post-service life.
Speaking at the programme held recently, in the Conference Room of the Audit Service Commission, Ivory Music House, CBD, Alausa, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Oluwakemi Amudat Garbadeen-Adedeji, described retirement as a significant stage in the life of every public servant which requires adequate preparation, planning, and a positive mindset.
She stated that the sensitisation programme was designed to expose participants to critical areas and opportunities for productive engagement after retirement.
Mrs. Garbadeen-Adedeji commended the retiring auditors for their years of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to duty, noting that their contributions have continued to strengthen accountability, transparency, and financial discipline within the Lagos State Public Service.
Additionally, she applauded the commitment of the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to the welfare of public servants through various initiatives and reforms aimed at ensuring workers retire with dignity and remain productive after active service.
She also appreciated the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro for his invaluable guidance and continuous support towards staff development and capacity building in the Public Service.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Director, Discipline and Exit (D and E) Department, Mrs. Oluwole Gloria, had earlier welcomed the participants and appreciated them for honouring the invitation of the Commission.
She encouraged the participants to shun procrastination and hasten their retirement procedures so as to avoid delays and disappointment.
In his presentation, the facilitator of the programme, Mr. Olaegbe Abdul Akeem emphasised the importance of early retirement planning, prudent financial management, and maintaining healthy lifestyles after retirement.
He urged participants to embrace retirement positively and avoid seeing it as the end of life’s productivity, stressing that retirement offers opportunities for personal growth, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and community service.
He further explained the nuances of properly exiting the public service, as well as hurdles that might be encountered, and ways to overcome them.
The facilitator also enlightened participants on pension documentation processes and encouraged them to ensure proper record keeping and timely processing of retirement benefits to avoid unnecessary delays.
The programme featured questions-and-answers sessions, practical discussions, and professional guidance tailored towards equipping the statutorily existing auditors with the necessary tools for a rewarding retirement life.
