AREWA REALITIES SERIES!!
Title: Arewa Is Not One Tribe!!!
When people hear “Arewa,” many automatically think of one language, one religion, and one culture. But that’s far from the truth.
The reality is that Northern Nigeria is home to over 200 ethnic groups, including Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri, Nupe, Tiv, Gwari, Jukun, Birom, and many others. While the Hausa language is widely spoken and often mistaken as a single identity, it does not define the whole North.
This misunderstanding erases the stories and contributions of many minority groups who make up the true fabric of Arewa. Each group brings its own traditions, history, food, music, and way of life that add to the richness of the region.
To build unity and progress in the North, we must first recognize and respect our differences. Real inclusion starts when we stop seeing Arewa as a single tribe and start celebrating it as a diverse, powerful community of many people — united in geography, but unique in heritage.
Arewa is not one tribe. It is many. And every one of them matters.
