Governor Adeleke Warns Against Palace Invasion at Ikirun, Mobilises Security Agencies

OSOGBO - 05/02/2026 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned against planned invasion and takeover of Ikirun palace, directing security agencies to mobilise and secure the palace ground immediately.

In a statement issued this evening, the governor warned that any prince found to be involved in the plot will be held accountable and culpable, declaring that “the palace remains sealed until conclusion of ongoing litigations on the Akirun stool”.

“ Any attempt to disturb the peace of Ikirun will not be tolerated by our government. The Akirun stool is a matter before the court and until the matter is resolved, no resort to self-help will be tolerated.

“I restored peace to Ikirun Community by an executive order, and it is only through my executive order that the palace can be re-opened. The recent effort of opening was just for the clearing and cleaning up of the environment so as to preserve one of our best traditional monuments. I hereby direct security agencies to secure the palace and prevent any illegal takeover of palace. All efforts should be deployed to sustain and maintain the peace of Ikirun”, the governor was quoted as saying.

Dear Alhaji Hassan Kamorudeen Okanlawon,Request for Clarification and Accountability on the Sale of Ikirun Refuse Dumpin...

Dear Alhaji Hassan Kamorudeen Okanlawon,

Request for Clarification and Accountability on the Sale of Ikirun Refuse Dumping Land at Agboro Community.

We write to you with a strong sense of responsibility and public interest to formally request clarity and accountability regarding the alleged fraudulent sale of the Ikirun refuse disposal (dumping) land located at Agboro Community, Ikirun, during your tenure as Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government between the years 2021 and 2022.

The NIPU Northern States Council, a regional body under the National Ikirun Progressive Union (NIPU). The NIPU serves as the apex body coordinating all Ikirun development initiatives and representing the collective interest of its people, considers this matter urgent, as it directly affects environmental sanitation, public health, and sustainable development in Ikirun town. The continued mismanagement of waste disposal has exposed our community to severe environmental and health hazards, including blocked drainage systems, air pollution from indiscriminate burning of waste, and an unkempt environment leading to the outbreak of various illnesses and threats to lives and property.

In the course of seeking a lasting solution to waste management challenges in Ikirun, our findings revealed that the town currently has no designated dumping land for active waste collectors. Further investigation established that approximately ten (10) acres of land were acquired and maintained by previous local government administrations specifically for refus dumping purposes. This land was actively used for waste disposal before your assumption of office as Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government.

It is alleged that this same land was sold during your tenure under the justification that the area had been developed and that waste disposal activities were negatively affecting residents. However, since the sale of this land, Ikirun has been subjected to serious environmental hazards, and there is no evidence that an alternative dumping site was provided to replace such a critical community asset.

More concerning is the fact that, as of today, the Agboro Community area claimed to be under development remains largely undeveloped, with no significant occupancy. Only a few buildings are under construction, while the entire land has been fully sold out and allocated with survey numbers on each plot. This situation raises serious questions as to whether due process was followed in the disposal of this community property.

In line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Local Government Act, citizens and community bodies have the right to seek clarification, transparency, and justice on matters relating to public assets and governance.

Accordingly, we hereby request that you provide the following information to the entire Ikirun community through the National Ikirun Progressive Union Headquarter, Ikirun, and relevant media outlets within one (1)month from the date of issuance of this letter:

1. The court case file number of the application or proposal submitted for approval to sell the said land.
2. A copy of the court judgment or order authorizing the sale of the land prior to its disposal.
3. A copy of the newspaper advertisement through which the sale of the land was publicly announced.
4. A copy of the procurement and valuation report from the relevant local government departments that determined the value of the land before it was sold.
5. Proof of payments made by all buyers into the official Ifelodun Local Government account.
6. A comprehensive report explaining why this vital community land was not replaced with an alternative dumping site before your exit from the office.

Please be informed that failure to respond within the stipulated time frame, or providing unclear or incomplete information on the above requests, will leave us with no alternative than to pursue further actions through appropriate government agencies and institutions across the Federation until a lasting and just solution is achieved.

We trust in your sense of responsibility and look forward to your cooperation in the interest of transparency, accountability, and the well-being of the Ikirun community.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Abdelhafeez Olalekan Ishaq Maigida
Secretary
NIPU Northern States Council
