ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE MATERNAL AND CHILD CENTRE, IMOTA

On April 9, this Centre made history with the safe delivery of three sets of twins in a single day. Today, August 19, it has once again recorded another remarkable first - the birth of its first set of triplets.

This is more than another joyful moment for the families involved; it is another powerful affirmation of what purposeful investment in healthcare infrastructure can achieve for our people.

Two years after the Maternal and Child Centre, Imota was facilitated, its impact continues to speak for itself - saving lives, supporting mothers and children, accommodating complex deliveries and providing a safe and conducive environment for quality healthcare delivery. Its emergence also paved the way for the facility's upgrade to a full-fledged General Hospital, expanding the healthcare possibilities for Imota and surrounding communities.

I warmly congratulate the parents of these beautiful triplets and pray that Almighty God grants the children sound health, long life, wisdom and abundant grace.

I also commend the Medical Director, Dr. Adenike Omosun, the management and every member of staff of the hospital for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to excellence. These milestones are a reflection of the important work you do every day.

When we invest in healthcare, we invest in life. And when that investment continues to produce moments like these, the impact of purposeful representation becomes even more meaningful.

Another first. Another reason to be grateful. Another testament to the power of investing in our people.

BEYOND TREATMENT, BUILDING A HEALTHIER IKORODU

The second leg of the year 2026 edition of iCare Foundation Biannual Medical Outreach is another expression of our commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to the people of Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

This expanded edition went beyond treatment, placing stronger emphasis on preventive healthcare and early detection, with over 500 residents benefiting from general health checks, diabetes screening, vision and dental assessments, free eyeglasses, medication and professional medical advice.

Healthcare must not only respond when people fall ill; we must also empower our people with the knowledge and access needed to detect health challenges early and take preventive steps towards healthier lives.

I sincerely appreciate the medical personnel, volunteers and the entire iCare Foundation team whose dedication made this outreach possible. Your service to our people is deeply valued.

A healthy population is essential to a prosperous community. We will continue to support interventions that improve the well-being of our people, strengthen our communities and advance the vision of a Greater Ikorodu.

CELEBRATING BOLD LEADERSHIP AND THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION

On Monday, I had the pleasure of joining the good people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA for the official foundation-laying ceremony of what promises to become one of the most ambitious basic education projects in Lagos State - a Smart Primary School that will redefine the learning experience for our children through technology-driven education.

This visionary project is a clear demonstration that investing in education remains one of the most enduring investments any society can make. By creating a learning environment where innovation, digital technology and modern teaching tools take centre stage, we are preparing our children not just for today's world, but for the opportunities of tomorrow.

I commend the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo'ba Hammed Ọlálékan Aroyewun, for his foresight, courage and unwavering commitment to expanding educational opportunities for our young people. Initiatives such as this continue to affirm that purposeful leadership is measured not merely by promises made, but by lasting legacies delivered.

As he marked one year in office yesterday, I warmly congratulate him on this important milestone and wish him continued wisdom, strength and greater accomplishments in the service of the good people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.

ENCOURAGING GRASSROOTS LEADERSHIP THAT BUILDS THE FUTURE

Yesterday morning, I paid a working visit to inspect two landmark projects currently under construction by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju - a gigantic Smart School and an ultramodern Vocational Education Complex.

These projects represent the kind of forward-thinking investments our communities need. By prioritising quality education, digital learning and vocational skills development, the Council is laying a strong foundation for the next generation while creating opportunities that will empower our youths for a rapidly evolving economy.

I commend Hon. Sulaimon for his commitment to people-centred governance and for pursuing projects that will leave a lasting legacy long after his tenure.

As he marks the first anniversary of his second term in office today as Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, I warmly congratulate Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju on this significant milestone. His re-election was a vote of confidence in his leadership, and I wish him greater wisdom, renewed strength and even greater accomplishments as he continues to serve our people with dedication and purpose.

Development is accelerated when leaders at every level remain focused on the common good. Together, we will continue to complement one another's efforts in building a Greater Ikorodu for the benefit of present and future generations.

CELEBRATING LEADERSHIP THAT DELIVERS RESULTS

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of joining the good people of Ikorodu North LCDA at the official flag-off of the construction of Apeka Road by the Executive Chairman, Mayor Ameen Apanishile. The project is among the administration's early infrastructure interventions aimed at improving mobility and the quality of life of residents.

It was heartening to witness the excitement and optimism of the people, whose enthusiasm reflects the importance of responsive leadership and community-focused development.

I commend Mayor Apanishile for his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and urge him to remain steadfast in this noble course. Leadership is most meaningful when it responds to the everyday needs of the people, and I am confident that these projects will leave a lasting impact on the communities they serve.

As he marks his first anniversary in office today, I warmly congratulate Mayor Ameen Apanishile and commend his dedication to public service. I wish him renewed strength, wisdom and even greater success as he continues to serve the people of Ikorodu North LCDA.

As representatives at different levels of government, we must continue to work together in complementing one another's efforts to accelerate development and improve the lives of our people.

A DECADE OF PURPOSEFUL TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP, A FUTURE OF GREATER DEVELOPMENT

Over the weekend, I had the honour of serving as Co-Chairman of the 10th Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, the Adegboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom - a remarkable celebration of a decade of visionary, peaceful and impactful traditional leadership.

In my address, I paid tribute to Kabiyesi's unwavering commitment to peace, unity, cultural preservation and community development, while reaffirming the indispensable role of our traditional institutions as partners in governance and grassroots development.

I also highlighted some of the dividends of democracy attracted to Igbogbo Kingdom through our collaborative efforts with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR under the Renewed Hope Agenda. These include over 10 road projects - notably the landmark Offin–Oreta Road - more than five classroom blocks, two healthcare facilities, over five electricity transformers, employment and empowerment opportunities for our youths, the Nigeria Immigration Service Office, the Digital Economy Training Centre at Methodist Primary School, Igbogbo, and our ongoing efforts towards the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Igbogbo.

These achievements demonstrate what is possible when traditional institutions and all levels of government work together in pursuit of the common good.

Once again, I congratulate Kabiyesi on this historic milestone and pray that Almighty God grants him continued good health, wisdom and many more prosperous years on the throne. May Igbogbo Kingdom continue to flourish in peace, unity and sustainable development.

STATE POLICE: A TRANSFORMATIVE STEP IN THE RENEWED HOPE AGENDA

One of the boldest and most transformative reforms of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR-led Administration is the proposed establishment of State Police in Nigeria.

Far from being a political experiment, this landmark constitutional reform seeks to address longstanding gaps in Nigeria's security architecture by creating a more responsive, accountable, and community-driven policing system, while preserving national cohesion through a strong Federal Police Service.

Here are 14 key highlights of the State Police Bill:

✅ Constitutional backing for the establishment of State Police Services.
✅ A two-tier policing system comprising the Federal Police Service and State Police Services, with clearly defined responsibilities.
✅ Mandatory certification before any State Police Service can commence operations.
✅ Continued federal responsibility for terrorism, cybercrime, border security, organised crime and other national security matters.
✅ Faster, community-based policing to improve public safety and crime prevention.
✅ Strong safeguards against political interference and abuse of police powers.
✅ Independent Police Service Commissions to oversee recruitment, promotions, discipline and accountability.
✅ Uniform national policing standards set by the National Assembly.
✅ Clearly defined constitutional limits for federal intervention in State policing.
✅ Enhanced intelligence sharing and cooperation between Federal and State Police Services.
✅ Clear jurisdictional boundaries for State Police operations.
✅ Robust oversight, transparency and judicial review mechanisms.

The proposed legislation represents a significant step towards building a more effective, professional and accountable policing system capable of responding to Nigeria's evolving security challenges.
