Earlier this week, (26thโ30th April 2026), we participated in a 4day Workshop for Private Employment Agencies (PEAs): Experience Sharing Sessions for PEAs within the ECOWAS Region and Africa, held in Lagos.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders including the Permanent Secretary, Zonal Directors (South West & North west), Lagos State Controller, Deputy Directors, Asst. Directors and officers from our ministry/unit - Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment/MRC; delegates from the Ghanaian Ministry of Labour and the Ghanaian-European Centre for Migration and Development; leadership of the EAPEAN; PEAs from Nigeria and Ghana as well as partners from GIZ-ZME.
The workshop aimed to strengthen the role of PEAs in promoting structured, safe and demand-driven labour mobility systems across West Africa and the African continent. Discussions centered on the evolving landscape of regional labour migration, existing regulatory and operational challenges, and opportunities for improving coordination, governance and cooperation among stakeholders.
It was an engaging platform for knowledge exchange, peer learning, practical reflection and networking opportunities. Through facilitated sessions, group work and experience sharing, we all explored strategies for enhancing labour mobility pathways, linking skills development to employment opportunities and promoting safe, orderly and rights-based migration.
The workshop concluded with key recommendations and action points to strengthen collaboration, improve regulatory frameworks and support more effective labour migration systems across the region.
