Eid-el-Fitr 2026: KWARTMA Deploys Personnel for Hitch-Free Traffic Flow

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has deployed over 450 officers and men and operational logistics, across the state to ensure the free flow of traffic before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Media and Public Relations of the Authority, PRTO Olawuyi Gani Olalekan. According to the statement, the Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Abdullahi Suleiman Oba, disclosed that the deployment, which will run from 17th to 22nd March, is strategically targeted at traffic-prone areas and key locations within the metropolis.

The deployment comprises 350 personnel assigned to traffic management and control, 30 officers for surveillance duties, and 50 personnel for highway patrol and monitoring along major corridors such as Offa, Ajase, Okoolowo, and Bode Saadu.
In addition, 10 members have been designated as a rescue team to promptly evacuate broken-down vehicles, while another 10 personnel will handle feedback and traffic reporting at various locations. which will be supported by 6 patrol vehicles, 10 motorbikes and heavy duty tow trucks.

The Chief Executive Officer urged all motorists and road users to cooperate with KWARTMA and other relevant agencies to ensure seamless traffic movement during the festive period. He further advised road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to guarantee their safety.

The KWARTMA Boss extends his warm felicitations to the Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Mallam Abdurahman Abdulrasaq, CON; the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR; and the entire Muslim community on the successful completion of the 2026 Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

YULETIDE: KWARTMA DEPLOYS 400 OPERATIVES, INAUGURATES “OPERATION ZERO-TRAFFIC TOLERANCE

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) on Friday, 19th December 2025, inaugurated its annual end-of-year safety initiative tagged “Operation Zero-Traffic Tolerance”, with the deployment of 400 personnel across the state to ensure hitch-free traffic movement during the yuletide season.

Speaking during the inauguration and briefing of all Zonal Commanders, the Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Abdullahi Suleiman Oba, stated that the 2025 Operation Zero-Traffic Tolerance is an intensive traffic and safety operation aimed at reducing traffic congestion,, road crashes, injuries, and fatalities, while guaranteeing a smooth travel experience for residents and visitors throughout the festive period.

The CEO disclosed that the operation commenced on Friday and will run until 15th January 2026, covering strategic traffic bottlenecks areas and major corridors across Kwara Central, Kwara South, Offa , and Kwara North,Bode Saadu.

According to him, the deployment will involve 400 personnel for traffic management and control, four patrol vehicles, ten motorcycles, One heavy-duty tow trucks, One light tow truck and enhanced traffic surveillance on major highways and critical routes across the State.

The CEO charged all personnel to conduct themselves professionally and shun any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Authority.

He noted that the operation will focus on strict enforcement of critical traffic offences, including dangerous driving and overtaking, excessive speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, overloading of passengers and goods, among others.

Abdullahi added that the operation will also address traffic challenges at critical locations such as Obbo/Unity Bridge, Ipata Market, and other areas where roads are encroached upon for trading activities, including the sale of fowls and clothes.

He emphasized that routine patrols, strict enforcement, and sustained public enlightenment campaigns will be maintained throughout the operation to ensure that road users prioritize safety during the yuletide season.

To enhance emergency response, the Authority announced that rapid response lines — 08034266996 and 08032366926 — are available to members of the public for prompt assistance in case of emergencies.

He called on all road users to obey traffic rules and regulations and wished the people of Kwara State a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, reassuring them of KWARTMA’s unwavering commitment to safer roads during the festive season and beyond.

KWARTMA Intensifies Enforcement on Ahmadu Bello Way; Restricted Vehicles Warned

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has issued a stern warning to all categories of vehicles prohibited from plying Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin, to desist from contravening the directive or risk appropriate sanctions.

In a statement issued on Monday, 15th December 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Abdullahi Suleiman Oba, disclosed that enforcement of the restriction would be intensified to deter recalcitrant commercial vehicle operators and restore orderliness along the corridor.

According to the CEO, the Authority is scaling up efforts to ensure total compliance with the restriction, which bars commercial motorcyclists, tricycle operators, and truck drivers from operating on Ahmadu Bello Way. He stressed that violators would be duly sanctioned and required to undergo compulsory retraining at accredited driving schools.

He explained that the restriction is intended to enhance security, safeguard lives and property, and guarantee the free flow of traffic along Ahmadu Bello Way, a strategic route linking several key government institutions.

KWARTMA therefore advises affected operators to make use of adjoining feeder roads such as Yoruba Road, Cooperative Road, Office Road, Ahman Patigi Road, Agbabiaka Road, Arowolo Street, Saadu Alanamu Road, Lajorin Road, and Sulu Gambari Road for passenger pick-up and drop-off, without crossing Ahmadu Bello Way.

The Authority urges all road users, especially commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, to comply fully with the directive and observe all traffic rules and regulations in the collective interest of public safety, security, and orderly traffic management.

KWARTMA COMMENCES OPERATIONS TO DECONGEST OGBONDOROKO–AFON ROAD, URGES STAKEHOLDERS COOPERATION

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has commenced full operations along the Ogbondoroko–Afon Road to ease the persistent traffic challenges faced by commuters.

This development follows public outcry over indiscriminate parking and complete blockage of the Ogbondoroko axis by trucks and trailers.

Speaking on the intervention, KWARTMA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdullahi Suleiman Oba, described the spate of lawless parking on
the route as alarming.

He noted that the situation has subjected local government workers, teachers, students, health personnel and other road users to severe gridlocks caused by heavy-duty trucks delivering raw materials to nearby manufacturing companies.

Mr. Oba assured that KWARTMA will work in synergy with the companies operating in the area and engage relevant stakeholders to improve travel experience along Afon Road .

He further disclosed that the Authority will sustain both day and night operations to minimize loss of productive man-hours and improve free flow of traffic.

As part of strategic measures, KWARTMA will mount road signages,operational equipment including tow services along the route to check the excesses of errant drivers.

The CEO cautioned the truck drivers to abide by traffic regulations while appealing to the Ogbondoroko community and all road users to extend maximum cooperation to KWARTMA officials in addressing the traffic situation.

He appreciated the management of Olam Agri for their promptness, cooperational supports giving to KWARTMA in achieving this important milestone and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting road safety, enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring the free flow of traffic across Kwara State.

FATAL CRASH: KWARTMA EVACUATES CO**SE, CLEARS ROAD DEBRIS

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) promptly responded to a distress call from one of its traffic reportage teams regarding a fatal Road Traffic Crash (RTC) that occurred at Offa Garage Roundabout around 08:00hrs today Wednesday 30th July, 2025.

On arrival, the Authority's Operations and Emergency Response Unit discovered a Mitsubishi van with registration number SMK 801 ST. The van, which was loaded with jerry cans of palm oil and baskets of kola nuts, reportedly suffered brake failure. It veered off the road, crashed into a petrol station, fatally hitting a pedestrian and leaving several others injured.

Officers of KWARTMA, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Traffic Division, swiftly intervened. The co**se of the deceased had already been carried to the morgue, while the injured victims were evacuated to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.

KWARTMA officers also cleared the road of debris to allow free flow of traffic along the route and handed over the personal belongings of the victims to the sister agency for proper documentation and safekeeping.

Reacting to the incident, the Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Mr. Suleiman Abdullahi Oba, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and emphasized the need for heightened caution by drivers, especially when approaching roundabouts.

The CEO further directed the immediate evacuation of all street beggars at the roundabout and urged pedestrians to remain vigilant at such critical junctions.
