TINUBU CANNOT ESCAPE THE STANDARD HE SET FOR OTHERS

An adage says, "He who comes for equity must come with clean hands."

Many Nigerians still remember when Bola Ahmed Tinubu was one of the strongest critics of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Whenever insecurity, violence, or economic hardship occurred, Tinubu and the opposition blamed the government and promised Nigerians a better alternative.

Today, Tinubu is President, and Nigerians have the right to judge his administration by the same standard he used against others.

Across the country, many citizens are worried about their safety and the state of the economy. The rising cost of living has made life more difficult for ordinary Nigerians, while security concerns continue to affect communities, businesses, and farmers.

Some Nigerians believe that the worsening security situation raises serious questions about the priorities and effectiveness of those in power. Whether one agrees or disagrees with that view, the government has a responsibility to address these concerns and restore public confidence.

When Jonathan was in power, the opposition argued that insecurity and hardship were signs of failed leadership. If that argument was valid then, Nigerians are justified in asking the same questions now.

Leadership is not about speeches, propaganda, or blaming previous administrations. Leadership is about solving problems and improving the lives of the people.

This is not about APC or PDP. It is about accountability. Every government must answer to the people it serves.

The same criticism Tinubu directed at previous administrations should now be applied to his own government. No leader should expect praise for promises while citizens are demanding results.

History will judge every administration not by its words, but by its performance.

PRESS STATEMENT

RE: ALLEGED MISUSE OF AUTHORISED ACCESS CREDENTIALS AND UNAUTHORISED DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION FROM THE COMMISSION’S CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) DATABASE

The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to allegations currently circulating on social media and in some sections of the media regarding the alleged unauthorised access to the Commission's Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database and the subsequent publication of information on a candidate in the recent primaries of a political party in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Commission takes this allegation seriously and has immediately commenced a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

As part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, authorised INEC Registration Officers were granted controlled access to specific components of the CVR system to enable them register new applicants, process requests for transfer of registration and update voter records where necessary. Such access is restricted to official duties only and is withdrawn at the conclusion of the exercise.

The audit trail from the preliminary investigation has enabled the Commission to identify the user account through which the information was accessed. Accordingly, relevant personnel have been questioned, and all units connected with the incident are cooperating fully with the investigation.

The Commission is also examining all technical, administrative and operational factors associated with the matter in order to establish individual responsibility and determine the circumstances surrounding the use of those credentials and identify any breach of internal access-control protocols before taking appropriate action against anyone involved.

Nigeria’s debt under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has become deeply alarming.

Since May 2023, Tinubu’s administration has reportedly added between ₦65.9 trillion and ₦96 trillion to Nigeria’s debt, pushing the total public debt to over ₦159 trillion.

Yet, this same government removed fuel subsidy in 2023, claiming subsidy was costing Nigeria over $10 billion annually and that the money would be redirected to development.

Today, Nigerians are asking: Where are the results?

Fuel prices have skyrocketed. Transportation costs are unbearable. Food inflation keeps rising. The naira continues to fall. Businesses are shutting down. Poverty and hardship are increasing daily.

Under Buhari, subsidy was still being paid, yet Nigeria’s debt rose from ₦12 trillion to about ₦87 trillion in 8 years. Now, in less than 3 years, Tinubu’s borrowing is already being compared to that figure despite subsidy removal.

If subsidy is gone and borrowing continues massively, Nigerians deserve to see visible development: ✅ Stable electricity ✅ Better roads ✅ Functional refineries ✅ Good hospitals ✅ Quality education ✅ Improved security ✅ Job opportunities

Borrowing is not the problem. Borrowing without visible development is the real problem.

The sacrifices of Nigerians must reflect in the progress of Nigeria.

NIGERIA MUST WAKE UP.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disappointed many Nigerians, particularly the Yoruba people who strongly believed in him.

There is a Yoruba adage that says: “Oríṣà tí kò lè gbé mi, kó jẹ́ kí n wà bí mo ṣe wà” — meaning, if a god cannot improve my situation, it should not make it worse.

If President Tinubu cannot solve Nigeria’s problems, then he should not add to them.

During his campaign, he gave Nigerians hope. He told us “Ẹ lo fi ọkàn balẹ̀” — to put our minds at rest. He promised electricity, jobs for the youth, affordable food, and even said fuel prices would drop to ₦100.

Today, we must ask ourselves: which of these promises have been fulfilled?

When fuel subsidy was removed in his first inaugural speech, many Nigerians supported the decision, believing the savings would be used to develop the country. Unfortunately, things have become more difficult, especially for the youth.

We were told to endure temporary hardship, that suffering would come first before relief. But today, the suffering continues, and new problems keep emerging.

It is becoming clear that we should stop expecting miracles from this administration. Instead of relief, many believe the focus is now on political strategies ahead of the next election.

As another Yoruba saying goes: “Ìwà ọmọ ló ń mú ọmọ ṣe òkìgbe— a person’s character makes him do Cutlass charm.

Many Nigerians, especially the youth, are struggling. Millions remain unemployed, and even parents who once struggled in their youth now depend on children who have no stable income. It is like an empty cup trying to fill another empty bottle.

Nigeria must wake up. The youth must wake up. The Yoruba must wake up.

2027 is approaching, and we must be wiser in our decisions.

Our future depends on it.

But today, many Nigerians are asking, where is the hope? Has it been renewed, or has it only remained a promise?

When fuel subsidy was removed, many citizens accepted it in good faith. We believed the savings would be used transparently to improve the economy, support the poor, and create opportunities for the masses. Unfortunately, the reality today feels different. Instead of relief, many Nigerians are facing more hardship.

Electricity supply has not improved significantly, yet tariffs keep rising. Citizens are told to return to farming, but fertilizers and agricultural inputs are too expensive for the average farmer. Food prices continue to increase, and daily living has become more difficult.

So we must ask: what real impact has this government made to ease the suffering of the common man? Are we expected to keep hoping while people struggle to survive?

It is even more concerning that some youths are already campaigning for a re-vote in 2027 without critically examining the present situation.

What that are using to campaign is

“ *Omo eni kò ní ṣe ìdí bẹ́bẹ́rè ká fi ilèkè sídì ọmọ elòmíràn* .”

(Charity begins at home we must think deeply before against others over our own interest.)
Nigerian youths, it is time to be wise.

The situation involving Hon. Atanda Rabi’u is a clear reminder of the need to respect zoning and political understanding in Iwo Constituency.
In 2023, Hon. Kabiru Irorun won the primary election, but due to the agreed zoning arrangement which did not favor his zone the ticket was given to Hon. Ara in the interest of fairness and unity.

Now, after completing his four-year term, the same zoning principle requires that power should move to the next zone, particularly Isale Oba. Seeking another term at this point goes against that understanding.

Therefore, Hon. Ara’s decision to withdraw his resignation letter is highly commendable. He is strongly advised to remain loyal to party leadership and align with the political structure under Ademola Adeleke. This will not only preserve his political relevance but also position him for greater opportunities, including future support and possible appointments.

In politics, patience and respect for agreements always pay in the long run.
