JAJI SCREENED, HOPE REKINDLED

The former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, was screened for the Taraba State governorship race at the Kaduna State House on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Jaji, a graduate of Building from Ahmadu Bello University and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Building (FNIOB), said his ambition is driven by a commitment to rebuild and reposition Taraba State for sustainable growth and prosperity.

Speaking after the screening exercise, he lamented what he described as the slow pace of development in Taraba State since its creation 35 years ago, noting that the state has yet to attain the level of progress expected among its peers.

“Rather than sit and complain about the backwardness of our state after thirty-five years of its creation, I would rather throw my hat into the ring and contest,” he stated.

While addressing journalists, the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) commended the party leadership for adopting direct primaries rather than consensus or indirect primaries.

“This is democracy. With direct primaries, you are bound to test your popularity and acceptability rather than rely on games and gimmicks associated with indirect primaries or consensus candidacy,” he said.

Responding to questions regarding his chances against a sitting governor, Jaji maintained that the state’s developmental realities speak for themselves.

“Go and check the developmental index of my dear state. Check our debt profile and human capital indicators; the records are there. I am tired of complaining. I would rather join the race to salvage my home state than sit on the fence. To liberate Taraba, I have decided to run. Above all, this is democracy,” he added.

Reflecting on the screening process, Jaji praised the professionalism and conduct of the committee members, particularly the chairman of the gubernatorial screening panel, Dr Benjamin Obi Nwoye.

“I must candidly appreciate the humility and professionalism of the committee. Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye led committee impressed me deeply. Their commitment to ethical standards, simplicity, and camaraderie was commendable. The National leadership of the party got it right, and I hope this same level of organisation is replicated at the state level,” he said.

The outcome of the screening exercise is expected in the coming days ahead of the party primaries.

*Sambo Picks Taraba APC Governorship Nomination Form Ahead of 2027*

The immediate past Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, has formally picked up the governorship nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, signaling his entry into the 2027 gubernatorial race.

In recent months, a growing wave of support across social media had urged the former minister to contest, with many of his supporters mounting sustained campaigns calling on him to answer what they described as a “collective call to service.” The announcement of his decision came as a surprise to many, following a personal social media post confirming he had obtained the nomination form.

In his statement, Sambo declared:

“Tarabans, you called, and we heard. To this end, we rise. That the sun may yet rise on the Mambilla. That Taraba may stand tall among the comity of states, that generations yet unborn will be grateful we built for them. For our State, for our Nation, and to the glory of the Almighty God, we run. The days ahead will test us, but they will also define us. Brace yourselves.”

The announcement sparked widespread jubilation among supporters across Taraba State, many of whom praised him for responding to public calls to contest.

Sambo now joins a competitive field that includes the incumbent governor, Agbu Kefas; former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman; and businessman and philanthropist, David Sabo Kente.

Meanwhile, the Taraba State APC Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, has dismissed speculations of a consensus or automatic ticket for any aspirant. He emphasized that all candidates would undergo screening and participate in a direct primary election.

“There is no preferred candidate. All aspirants who pass the screening process will participate in a direct primary election. The decision will rest with party members at the grassroots,” Bawa stated.

Although direct access to Sambo was unsuccessful, his Chief Media Aide confirmed that the former minister has indeed picked up the form and is fully in the race. The aide also expressed confidence in the party’s direct primary system, describing it as a credible process capable of producing a strong candidate to represent the APC in the general election.

As the 2027 election cycle gathers momentum, Sambo’s entry is expected to significantly reshape the political dynamics within both the party and Taraba State at large, as stakeholders position for what is shaping up to be a highly contested race.

Tarabans, you called, and we heard.

To this end, we rise.

That the sun may yet rise on the Mambilla,
That Taraba may stand tall among the comity of states,
That generations yet unborn will be grateful we built for them.

For our state.
For our nation.
And to the glory of the Almighty God, WE RUN.

The days ahead will test us, but they will also define us.

Brace yourselves.

God bless Taraba State.
God bless the All Progressives Congress.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
