The Department of Mass Communication at Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, undertook a courtesy visit to Faβida Radio 105.3 FM in Malam Madori, with the primary objective of exploring potential collaboration opportunities in training students and providing them with practical experience in media organisations. A four-member delegation from the university, led by Dr. Mustapha Hussaini, comprised principal officers and key stakeholders instrumental in the establishment of the Department of Mass Communication. During the visit, the delegation articulated the university's interest in collaborating with Faβida Radio to provide students with comprehensive training in journalism and media professionalism. Furthermore, both parties engaged in discussions regarding the possibility of establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to fortify their collaboration and create avenues for students to acquire practical work experience. The visit also centred on bridging the gap between the theoretical knowledge acquired by students at the university and the practical skills required in media organisations. Alhaji Bashir F. Danladi, Managing Director of Faβida Radio, expressed his appreciation for the visit and underscored the significance of collaboration between universities and media organisations in training young professionals and preparing them for careers in journalism. However, he offered counsel on the optimal framework for the collaboration. The anticipated collaboration is expected to contribute to the production of well-trained and skilled graduates who can play a pivotal role in the development of the media and communication industry in Jigawa State and Nigeria at large.
