The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has congratulated the youths of Plateau State on the occasion of the 2026 International Youth Day, describing young people as indispensable partners in the development, peace, prosperity, and future of the State.

In a heartfelt message, Governor Mutfwang commended Plateau youths for their resilience, creativity, courage, and contributions to community development and sustainability across the State. He noted that young people remain a vital force in shaping a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Plateau.

The Governor said the theme of this year’s International Youth Day, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” provides an important opportunity for governments, communities, development partners, and young people to reflect on the challenges confronting the younger generation and strengthen practical measures that will enable them to realise their full potential.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where Plateau youths can acquire relevant skills, access local and global opportunities, develop entrepreneurial capacity, participate meaningfully in governance, and contribute positively to the State’s economic and social transformation.

He acknowledged some of the challenges confronting young people, including unemployment, limited access to economic opportunities, skills gaps, and the pressures associated with a rapidly changing global economy. He, however, noted that his administration is taking deliberate steps, in collaboration with institutions such as the Bank of Industry, to expand economic opportunities and empower Plateau citizens, particularly young people.

He urged Plateau youths to channel their energy, talents, and creativity into education, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, agriculture, creative industries, and other productive ventures capable of creating jobs, promoting economic self-reliance, and strengthening their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the State.

“The strength of Plateau lies in the energy, creativity, talents, and determination of our young people. As we celebrate International Youth Day, I urge our youths to believe in themselves, embrace opportunities, uphold peace, and remain committed to building a stronger, more prosperous, and united Plateau State.

“We will continue to listen to your aspirations and create opportunities for you to participate meaningfully in governance and the development of our State. Your future is inseparable from the future of Plateau.” Governor Mutfwang stated.

He assured Plateau youths that his administration would continue to support policies and programmes that expand opportunities for youth development, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, employment, empowerment, and meaningful participation in governance.

On behalf of his family, the Government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State,
Governor Mutfwang, wished all Plateau youths a happy and meaningful 2026 International Youth Day, assuring them of his administration’s continued commitment to their development, empowerment, inclusion, and the creation of greater opportunities for them to thrive.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG URGES CHILDREN TO HONOUR PARENTS WHILE ALIVE, ANNOUNCES EMPOWERMENT SUPPORT FOR YOUTHS AND WIDOWS

Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has urged children and younger generations to cultivate the culture of honouring and caring for their parents while they are still alive, describing such responsibility as both a moral obligation and a fulfillment of biblical injunctions.

The Governor made the call during the thanksgiving service marking the 80th birthday of former Plateau State Governor and elder statesman, Distinguished Senator Jonah David Jang, held at the COCIN RCC Headquarters, Du, Jos South Local Government Area.

As part of activities commemorating the milestone, Governor Mutfwang announced an empowerment support package for youths and widows of the COCIN RCC Headquarters, Du, aimed at encouraging self-reliance, productivity, and economic inclusion.

Speaking at the service, Governor Mutfwang described Senator Jang's eight decades of life as a remarkable testimony of God's faithfulness, preservation, grace, and enduring favour.

He noted that society must learn to celebrate and appreciate distinguished leaders and elders while they are alive rather than waiting until after their passing to acknowledge their contributions.

"It is a privilege to celebrate distinguished leaders while they are still with us. We must not build a culture of waiting until people pass on before appreciating their sacrifices and contributions to society," the Governor stated.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized that parents deserve love, respect, care, and support in their old age, urging families to remain committed to their welfare and well-being.

He cautioned against adopting foreign social practices that encourage the abandonment of elderly parents in care homes, insisting that African family values place a premium on caring for and honouring the aged.

The Governor further prayed for God's continued strength, good health, and long life for the elderly, noting that older generations remain invaluable reservoirs of wisdom, guidance, and societal values.

Governor Mutfwang also congratulated Rev. Dr. Sylvester Davou Dachomo on his election as Deputy General Secretary of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), expressing confidence that his leadership would further advance the growth and mission of the Church.

Addressing the beneficiaries of the empowerment initiative, the Governor stressed that sustainable wealth creation is built on diligence, discipline, and hard work rather than wishful thinking.

"Wealth is created through hard work, perseverance, and commitment. Do not despise humble beginnings, because every great achievement starts with a small step," he advised.

Earlier, the President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, thanked God for preserving Senator Jang through 80 years of purposeful and impactful service to God, Plateau State, and the nation.

He described the celebrant as a leader whose life has been defined by dedication, courage, and service, recalling his distinguished roles as Military Governor of the former Gongola State, Executive Governor of Plateau State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The COCIN President called on political leaders, traditional rulers, the Church, and citizens to promote unity, peace, justice, and the sanctity of human life, stressing that true leadership is measured not by position or privilege but by service, integrity, and the positive impact made on society.

In his remarks, Senator Jonah David Jang expressed profound gratitude to God for preserving his life and granting him the grace to celebrate his 80th birthday in good health and sound mind.

The elder statesman reflected on his journey from military service to public leadership, thanking God for His unfailing grace throughout his years as Military Governor, Executive Governor of Plateau State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"I am grateful to my family, friends, associates, and the good people of Plateau State for their prayers, counsel, and unwavering support throughout my life's journey," Senator Jang said, pledging to remain committed to the values of service, humility, and godliness.

The thanksgiving service attracted prominent political leaders, government officials, clergy, traditional rulers, family members, friends, and well-wishers from within and outside Plateau State who gathered to celebrate Senator Jang's enduring legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to the growth of society.

PRESS STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR MUTFWANG'S ENGAGEMENT WITH THE IGBO COMMUNITY OF PLATEAU. The Office of the Governor of Plat...

PRESS STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR MUTFWANG'S ENGAGEMENT WITH THE IGBO COMMUNITY OF PLATEAU.

The Office of the Governor of Plateau State has taken note of the various reactions that have followed Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s recent interaction with leaders of the Igbo community during their courtesy visit to the Government House in Jos.

We appreciate the genuine concerns expressed by many well-meaning Nigerians who have reached out for clarification. However, we are equally concerned that portions of the Governor’s remarks have been deliberately taken out of context and presented in ways that neither reflect the substance of the conversation nor the convictions of Governor Mutfwang.

For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Mutfwang’s remarks were made in the spirit of appreciation, reconciliation and national unity. They were intended to acknowledge the resilience, enterprise and enduring contributions of the Igbo community to the growth, prosperity and social fabric of Plateau State, while encouraging all Nigerians to continue building bridges of mutual respect, understanding and peaceful coexistence.

At no point did the Governor seek to diminish the painful experiences of any ethnic group or the historical realities surrounding Nigeria’s Civil War. The scars of that period remain part of our national history and deserve to be remembered with empathy, honesty and sensitivity. Equally, they remind us of the enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds that unite us rather than reopen wounds that generations of Nigerians have worked hard to heal.

For decades, Plateau State has proudly stood as one of Nigeria’s foremost examples of peaceful coexistence among diverse peoples. Successive administrations have sustained this tradition by creating an environment where Nigerians from every region can live, work, worship, invest and flourish, thus strengthening the bonds of partnership. From the heroic and exemplary integration efforts of the foundation laying JD Gomwalk, to the excellent emancipatory vision of Chief Solomon Lar, and through successive administrations in that order, Plateau State has historically served as a welcoming home for especially Ndi Igbo, outside the South East.

Indeed, this progressive spirit of inclusion as championed by the worthy predecessors of Governor Mutfwang in office, directly aligns with the "No Victor, No Vanquished" declaration, and the policy of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction (3Rs) as was courageously espoused by our distinguished statesman, General Yakubu Gowon. His steadfast devotion to this approach has been recognised globally as a worthy model in post-war reconstruction. The Ndigbo community has leveraged on this to make invaluable and remarkable contributions to commerce, education, healthcare, industry and the overall development of our dear state.

Governor Mutfwang remains firmly committed to preserving and strengthening this legacy. His administration believes that Plateau’s greatest strength lies not in the differences among its people but in their ability to transform diversity into unity and shared prosperity. This conviction continues to guide both his words and his policies.

Throughout his public service, Governor Mutfwang has consistently advocated dialogue over division, reconciliation over resentment, and hope over hostility. His engagement with the leadership of the Igbo community was entirely consistent with these values and with Plateau State’s longstanding tradition of welcoming all Nigerians who choose to call the state home.

We therefore urge members of the public to disregard interpretations that seek to assign meanings to the Governor’s remarks that were neither intended nor expressed. Such distortions serve no constructive purpose and only distract from the broader message of unity, gratitude and national cohesion that defined the engagement.

At a time when our nation faces significant challenges, Nigerians must resist every attempt to inflame ethnic or regional divisions. Instead, we should draw strength from our shared history, celebrate our diversity and recommit ourselves to building a nation founded on justice, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang remains unwavering in his belief that every Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or place of origin, deserves dignity, equal opportunity and a genuine sense of belonging. These principles will continue to define his leadership and his vision for Plateau State.

We thank all Nigerians for their understanding, goodwill and continued commitment to the unity and progress of our country.

God bless Plateau State.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
