BREAKING: DEMOCRACY VETERANS, ACTIVISTS STORM KADUNA FOR LAUNCH OF GANI-UBA SANI MENTORSHIP BOOK

Kaduna is bracing for a major convergence of democracy veterans, civil rights activists, lawyers, political leaders, and public intellectuals as the curtain rises on the public presentation of "Gani Fawehinmi and Uba Sani: A Tale of Mentor and Mentee," a new book that chronicles the extraordinary bond between one of Nigeria's most celebrated human rights icons and one of his notable protégés.

The book, authored by Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku, Esq., daughter of the late legal luminary, is expected to draw prominent figures from across the country on Saturday.

Long before he became a senator and later Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani was among a generation of young activists who found guidance, inspiration, and courage under the watchful eyes of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN—a man whose name became synonymous with resistance to oppression, defence of human rights, and the struggle for democratic rule.

"The forthcoming launch promises to reopen a remarkable chapter in Nigeria's democratic history, bringing back memories of an era when activists risked detention, persecution, and personal sacrifice in pursuit of justice and freedom," said Mr. Fabian Okoye, one of the hosts of the historic event.

At the centre of the story is the relationship between a fearless mentor who dedicated his life to defending the weak and a young democracy campaigner who absorbed those lessons and eventually rose to become the chief executive of one of Nigeria's most strategic states.
Organizers note that the gathering represents far more than a book launch. It is billed as a celebration of courage, conviction, mentorship, and the enduring power of ideas, offering a rare opportunity for younger Nigerians to hear firsthand accounts from men and women who stood on the frontlines of the country's pro-democracy movement.

Interest in the event has continued to grow across political and civil society circles, with many describing it as one of the most significant democracy-themed gatherings Kaduna has hosted in recent years.
Those who knew the late legal icon often speak of his uncommon ability to identify young talent, nurture leadership, and instill values that transcended politics. Among those who benefited from that mentorship was Uba Sani, who has consistently acknowledged the profound influence the late legal icon had on his life and public service journey.

Underscoring the significance of the event, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, noted: "My mentor, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, remains one of the towering figures of Nigeria's democratic evolution. Revered for his fearless advocacy, relentless legal battles, and unwavering commitment to justice, he inspired countless Nigerians to challenge injustice and defend constitutional freedoms."

The book shines a spotlight on that relationship, documenting how mentorship, shared ideals, and a commitment to social justice helped shape a journey that would eventually lead from the trenches of activism to the highest levels of political leadership.
With prominent Nigerians, democracy advocates, legal practitioners, academics, traditional rulers, and youth leaders expected in attendance, Kaduna is set to become the focal point of a national conversation on leadership, democratic values, and legacy.

On September 5th, the spotlight will not merely be on a book. It will be on a story of influence, conviction, sacrifice, and the enduring legacy of a mentor whose impact continues to echo through generations.
