‎The Nigerian Army will commence online applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027 on Friday, 14 August 2026.

‎Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and aged 23 to 27 years as at 10 January 2027. They must possess at least a Second Class Lower degree or Lower Credit HND from an accredited institution, with tertiary qualifications obtained from 2018 to date.
‎
‎Other requirements include the prescribed medical and physical fitness standards, minimum height of 1.68m for males and 1.65m for females, valid birth or age documentation, certificate of state of origin and other conditions specified by the Nigerian Army.
‎
‎For civilian applicants, an NYSC Discharge Certificate is mandatory.

‎From 14 August 2026, applicants should visit the official portal, select SSCC, choose SSCC 50/2027, create an account and complete the application as directed. Required documents must be uploaded and the generated photo-slip printed for the subsequent attestation process.

BREAKING ANALYSIS: WHY HAVE SOME SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS RECEIVED APPOINTMENT LETTERS AND JULY SALARY WHILE OTHERS ARE STILL WAITING?

Official records show that the Kano State Ministry of Education presented appointment letters to successful recruits under SUBEB, KSSSMB and STSB on 21 July 2026. Following the exercise, successful applicants reportedly completed the required documentation. While some have since received their appointment letters and July 2026 salary, others from the same recruitment exercise are still waiting for their appointment letters and salary.

On 27 July 2026, the Office of the Head of Civil Service issued Circular No. 6 suspending ongoing employment activities and the issuance of further appointment offers across MDAs.

As previously reported by Kano State Civil Servants, an official government source explained that the temporary suspension was introduced to ensure that no eligible applicant is left out and that the recruitment process remains fair, transparent and compliant with due process. This explanation has reassured many applicants that the recruitment exercise has not been cancelled.

However, this raises an important public-interest question: If the purpose of the suspension is to ensure fairness and that no eligible applicant is left behind, why have some successful applicants from the same recruitment exercise already received their appointment letters and July 2026 salary, while others who also reportedly completed the required documentation are still waiting for their appointment letters and salary?

No official document currently available cancels the recruitment exercise or withdraws the status of the remaining successful applicants. We respectfully call on the Kano State Government to provide an official clarification, conclude the process for those still waiting, and ensure that no eligible successful applicant is disadvantaged by the delay, in accordance with applicable government approvals and regulations.

KANO STATE CIVIL SERVANTS SUPPORT ₦500,000 MINIMUM WAGE DEMAND

Kano State Civil Servants supports the NLC and TUC call for at least ₦500,000 as a new national minimum wage.

This is not about politics. It is about the purchasing power, dignity and welfare of Nigerian workers.

Workers spend their salaries in the same economy—supporting businesses, traders, transport operators, landlords and service providers.

We therefore encourage policymakers to approach the coming wage discussions with the realities of workers and their families firmly in mind.

Public office is temporary. The decisions made today will be remembered by future generations. Good decisions that improve people's lives leave a lasting legacy.

₦500,000 remains a labour demand, subject to negotiation and the lawful approval process.

KANO WAGE AWARD: 2024 WORKFORCE FIGURES PUT SIX-MONTH COMMITMENT AT ₦19.22 BILLION — POTENTIAL OUTSTANDING BALANCE: ₦16.02–₦17.62 BILLION

The Kano State workforce survey published in September 2024 recorded 160,166 state and local government employees.

Based on the agreed ₦20,000 monthly wage award for six months, the total commitment would be approximately ₦19.22 billion, if all 160,166 workers were eligible.

Payment records indicate that some workers received ₦20,000, while others received ₦10,000.

Under the ₦20,000-payment scenario, a worker would have ₦100,000 remaining from the six-month award.

Under the ₦10,000-payment scenario, a worker would have ₦110,000 remaining.

Using the 2024 workforce figure:

₦16.02 billion would represent the potential remaining balance if all 160,166 workers had received ₦20,000.

₦17.62 billion would represent the potential remaining balance if all 160,166 workers had received ₦10,000.

These are calculations based on the 2024 workforce figure and the reported payment scenarios. They are not presented as the government's confirmed outstanding liability.

We respectfully call on the Kano State Government to provide a clear reconciliation of the wage-award payments and state the exact outstanding balance and the total amount required to fully settle the agreed six-month wage award.

This is not an accusation or confrontation.

It is simply a respectful call for clarity, transparency and complete settlement of the agreed wage award.
