Kano State Agency for Mass Education Visits Unaccompanied Children Reintegration Centre
The Kano State Government Unaccompanied Children Reintegration Programme, is a program designed by kano state government aim at rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating street-connected children into safe family and community environments. The programme provides holistic care aimed at addressing physical, emotional, and psychological needs while ensuring strong child protection mechanisms.
In furtherance of this commitment, the Kano State Agency for Mass Education, under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Dr. Binta Abubakar, paid a visit to the Unaccompanied Children Reintegration Centre to assess progress and support ongoing vocational training activities. During the visit, the agency provided vocational tools to the children to enhance their skills and promote self-reliance.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Dr. Binta Abubakar expressed delight at the remarkable transformation observed among the children. She commended them for the quality leather shoes produced during their training and assured them that, Insha Allah, additional vocational tools would be provided to further strengthen their skills.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,in supporting the programme and ensuring that the children are provided with all necessary assistance. She urged the beneficiaries to remain patient, disciplined, and to uphold the values and lessons learned during their stay at the centre as they prepare for graduation.
Dr. Binta Abubakar also announced the provision of essential items, including pomade oil, detergent, and bathing soap, to be distributed under the support of the agency’s Director, Hajiya Usaina. She encouraged the children to be of good conduct, reminding them that they are the leaders of tomorrow.
Earlier, the Programme Coordinator, A.C.G. Bayero, explained that the children were rescued from under bridges and other unsafe locations as part of the government’s efforts to eradicate child homelessness and street begging in Kano State. He disclosed that most of the children are not indigenes of the state and were previously engaged in informal recycling activities conducted in unsafe and inappropriate conditions. He added that some of the children were affected by drug abuse.
According to him, the programme currently accommodates 230 children, aged between 10 and 15 years. He noted that the initiative was established by His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to remove children from dangerous street conditions, heal physical, emotional, and psychological wounds, and reconnect them with their families for sustainable reintegration.
