2026 HNRP Launch: GOV. BUNI REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING EVERY CHILD IN YOBE STATE
At the official launch of the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) held at the United Nations House, Abuja, the Executive Governor of Yobe State and Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the protection, welfare, and future of children across Yobe State.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, mni, Governor Buni emphasized that no child must be left behind or exposed to harm, even amid protracted humanitarian challenges facing the region. He noted that the 2026 HNRP is being launched at a critical moment, with 5.9 million people projected to face severe humanitarian conditions across the BAY States, including about 2 million people in Yobe State alone.
Governor Buni acknowledged some key humanitarian needs and reaffirmed that these realities, he stressed, demand sustained, coordinated, and locally driven action.
Despite shrinking humanitarian financing globally, the Yobe State Government remains resolute
Under Governor Buni’s leadership, the State is advancing its Durable Solutions Agenda through the State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacement, shifting from emergency response to long-term recovery, resilience, and development.
Ongoing interventions include livelihood support, irrigation and dry-season farming, improved access to primary healthcare and nutrition, expanded social protection, and the implementation of a Safe, Voluntary, and Dignified Returns Strategy.
Governor Buni commended the Federal Government, the United Nations, and humanitarian partners for developing a realistic, principled, and people-centred 2026 HNRP, aligned with localization and humanitarian transition commitments.
He reaffirmed Yobe State’s readiness to strengthen coordination, promote accountability, and align humanitarian action with development and peacebuilding efforts.
“As we launch the 2026 HNRP, let us act with renewed urgency and collective responsibility,” the Governor urged. “Above all, let us ensure that no child across the BAY region is left unprotected.”
The Government and people of Yobe State expressed deep appreciation to all partners for their continued solidarity and commitment to the people of northeast Nigeria, reaffirming that protecting children today is the foundation for a safer, more resilient tomorrow.
