As Kano Assembly Resumes Today, More Quality Bills and Motions Presented at Plenary Session

The Kano State House of Assembly, at a plenary session presided over by the Rt. Honourable Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, received and deliberated on several motions aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and community development across the state.

Among the motions presented:
- Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, Member representing Makoda Constituency, called on the state government to construct a road linking Wailare–Gagarawa–Yallada and Kwarkiya in Makoda Local Government.
- Hon. Sulaiman Muktar Ishaq of Madobi urged the government to establish CBT/ICT centres across the 44 Local Government Areas in line with the new national policy on WAEC and NECO, to ensure children become computer literate.
- Hon. Yunusa Haruna Kayyu of Gwarzo called for the completion of electrification projects in Garun Madadi and Yanguruza communities in Gwarzo LGA.
- Hon. Engr. Murtala Kadage of Garko requested the rehabilitation of Buda Dam in Kwas Ward, Garko LGA.

Additionally, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Butu Butu of Rimin Gado/Tofa presented a report on judiciary matters, specifically the Kano State Sharia Court Bill, 2026, and the Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal Bill, 2026.

The Speaker also read a letter from the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kano State Chapter. The letter, pursuant to the standing rules of the House, announced new nominations for minority leadership positions following recent changes in Assembly leadership:
- Minority Leader: Hon. Usman Abubakar Tasiu, representing Kiru Constituency
- Minority Whip: Hon. Yusuf Bello Aliyu, representing Nasarawa Constituency

The nominations were based on the lawmakers’ experience and commitment to the party.

Falgore Mouns The Death Of Hajiya Maimuna Isa Umar, The Emir Of Rano's Mother

The speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Right Honourable jibril Ismail Falgore, has mourned the passing of Hajiya Maimuna Isa Umar, the mother of the Emir Of Rano.

In a statement released by the speaker's Spokeperson, kamaluddeen Sani Shawai on Monday, Falgore described the death of Hajiya Maimuna Isa Umar as devastating and irreplaceable loss. He noted that her discipline, integrity and good moral influence to her family will forever remain etched in the emirate council and beyond.

The Rano Emirate and Kano State have indeed lost woman with good virtue and substance. This is a loss for all of us. Falgore stated.

" It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that, on behalf of the Kano State House of Assembly, extended Heartfelt condolences to the Emir Of Rano, the Emirate council and good people of Kano State" Falgore said.

Falgore also prayed that Almighty Allah grants her family the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss.

"May Almighty forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest in jannatul Firdaus," he concluded.

Falgore Extends Heartfelt Condolences over The Demise of El-Rufa'i's Mother

The speaker Kano State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable jibril Ismail Falgore, has extended his heartfelt condolences to Mal Nasir Ahmad El- rufai, his family and the people of kaduna State over the death of his mother.

This was contained in a statement released by speaker's Spokeperson, kamaluddeen Sani Shawai on Saturday.

Falgore described the loss of Hajiya Umma Ahmad El- rufai as an irreparable loss and profound, as she represents discipline, integrity, love, sacrifice and the foundation of a good family.

It's with deep sorrow that your mother's warmth touched so many lives as she raised an incredible person. Kindly take solance while she lived a meaningful life and left behind values and memories that will continue to guide and comfort the entire family.

"On behalf of the entire Kano State House of Assembly honorable members, I sincerely extend our heartfelt condolences to Malam Nasir Ahmad El-rufai and his family. Mama Umma was a woman of courage and exceptional qualities, whose life will inspire many people". Falgore stated.

"May the Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive her shortcomings, reward her deeds with Al-jannatul Firdaus, and grant her loved ones the strength to bear this great loss". Falgore added.

Falgore Felicitates Muslim Ummah on The Occasion Of Eid -al- Fitr Says Kano Needs Peaceful Co-existence

The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Jibril Ismail Falgore, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim Ummah and all Nigerians on the occasion of Eid -al- Fitr season.

In a statement released by the Speaker’s Spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, on Friday, Falgore urged unity, tolerance, and mutual respect of one another as the world celebrates Eid al- Fitr 2026.

He further encouraged the Muslim faithful to live with one another with dignity and respect in love and tolerance, describing beautiful days in Ramadan as a season of sober reflections, compassion and helping the needy. He stressed that tolerance and mutual respect remains key to peace and stability while accelerating nation-building and societal developments become imperative.

Highlighting progress at the State Assembly, Falgore noted that Honourable Members remain committed in providing quality legislation aimed at improving the living standards of the people of Kano. He pointed out that as we're approaching the general elections in the year 2027, more concerted effort is needed from all stakeholders for peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections across the country.

“I am convinced that the Kano State House of Assembly under my watch is doing everything possible to deliver quality legislation, irrespective of tribe or religion, for sustainable growth, job creation, and shared prosperity,” Falgore stated.

He reiterated the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to supporting the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose administration has been dedicated to providing a conducive atmosphere for all citizens, irrespective of religion and tribe.

On behalf of the entire Kano State House of Assembly, Falgore wished Muslim Ummah a joyful celebration and prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity for Kano State.

Kano Assembly Begins Impeachment proceedings against Deputy Gov Aminu Abdulsam.
...has given two weeks to respond to the allegations of breach of public trust amongst others.

The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam, over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.

The action follows a petition submitted by the Executive urging the House to act against Abdulsalam over alleged irregularities during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs between 2023 and 2024.

Reading the petition, Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala said the notice complies with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended). The allegations relate to Abdulsalam’s activities while overseeing the state’s 44 local government areas.

The petition lists the following allegations:

Breach of Public Trust: Abdulsalam is accused of diverting funds meant for local government administrations for personal gain. Between June 2023 and January 2024, he allegedly received kickbacks totaling ₦462 million over seven months.

Diversion of Funds and Misuse of Official Capacity: From February 2024 to July 2024, he reportedly received ₦726 million from local government councils under the guise of executing special assignments.

Abuse of Office: Abdulsalam allegedly facilitated the improper release of ₦440 million to North Med Pharmaceutical Limited, in violation of public procurement laws and state fiscal regulations.

Gross Misconduct: These actions are said to constitute gross misconduct under Section 188(2) of the Constitution, representing serious breaches of constitutional norms and ethical standards for public office holders.

Dala explained that, based on the evidence presented, the Deputy Governor should be impeached and removed from office in accordance with constitutional procedures.
