Katsina Pledges Stronger Peacebuilding Framework and Social Cohesion

The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutions, promoting social cohesion, and advancing sustainable peacebuilding through targeted capacity-building programmes across the state.

This follows the successful conclusion of a two-day training on Interest-Based Negotiation and Mediation (IBN+M), organised under the European Union-funded Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR) Programme, in collaboration with Mercy Corps.

The training brought together members of the CPCRR Steering Committee, High-Level Women Advocates, and selected media practitioners to enhance their skills in conflict prevention, mediation, and inclusive peacebuilding.

Stakeholders noted that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Radda-led administration to institutionalise peacebuilding frameworks across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

According to participants, the programme was designed to equip stakeholders with practical tools in dialogue facilitation, mediation, and conflict prevention, with the aim of strengthening community resilience and promoting peaceful coexistence.

They further explained that the initiative goes beyond technical training, serving as a strategic effort to fully integrate the CPCRR model into government systems for long-term sustainability.

The goal is to institutionalise peacebuilding so that it becomes part of governance systems and service delivery processes across relevant MDAs.

The engagement also underscored the importance of multi-stakeholder participation in peacebuilding, highlighting the roles of women, youth, traditional institutions, government actors, and the media in preventing conflict and promoting dialogue at all levels.

Speaking on the outcome of the training, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Development Management Board (KTDMB), Dr. Mustapha Shehu, reiterated the government’s commitment to sustaining peacebuilding interventions.

"Through the Katsina State Development Management Board, the government remains committed to scaling up programmes that strengthen institutions and empower communities to become active agents of peace and development," Dr. Shehu said.

He added that the training outcomes represent long-term investments in peace and governance.

"The knowledge gained today forms the foundation for a more peaceful and prosperous Katsina State. When institutionalised, these efforts will benefit future generations," he stated.

The state government emphasised that under Governor Radda’s leadership, sustainable peace is being pursued through strong institutions, inclusive governance, and collaborative partnerships.

It noted that peace is not achieved through enforcement alone, but through trust, dialogue, and institutional strength.

Governor Radda Commends Fasanya’s Legacy of Service at Book Launch in Abuja

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has described the public presentation of the book ‘From Cradle to Saddle’ as a celebration of visionary leadership, sacrifice, institutional development and enterprise growth in Nigeria.

Governor Radda made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the public presentation of the book authored by former Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Olawale Fasanya.

Represented by the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, the Governor said the occasion was not merely the launch of a book but a reflection on the journey of enterprise development in Nigeria and the role of strong institutions in driving economic growth.

Governor Radda noted that his relationship with Dr. Fasanya dates back to their years together at SMEDAN, where he witnessed firsthand the author's commitment, discipline, loyalty and passion for the development of Nigeria's small business sector.

According to the Governor, Dr. Fasanya distinguished himself through an uncommon sense of responsibility, professionalism and dedication to service, qualities that earned him increasing leadership responsibilities within the agency.

"Leadership is not merely about occupying positions; it is about preparing institutions to outlive individuals. One of the greatest tests of leadership is succession. When I left SMEDAN to pursue my governorship ambition in Katsina State, I recommended Dr. Fasanya to succeed me as Director-General because I had absolute confidence in his competence, integrity and commitment to the MSME sector," Governor Radda stated.

The Governor expressed gratitude to former President, Muhammadu Buhari, for approving the recommendation, noting that subsequent events have justified the decision.

He described ‘From Cradle to Saddle’ as more than a personal memoir, saying the publication serves as a valuable record of institutional history, policy evolution, leadership experiences and lessons in enterprise development.

Governor Radda emphasized the importance of documentation and knowledge transfer in strengthening public institutions, stressing that future policymakers, entrepreneurs, development practitioners and scholars would benefit immensely from the insights contained in the book.

He reiterated that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remain critical to job creation, poverty reduction, innovation, wealth creation and inclusive economic growth, adding that governments must continue to strengthen institutions that support enterprise development.

The Governor further highlighted his administration's commitment to entrepreneurship and economic inclusion through the establishment of the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency, which was created shortly after he assumed office.

He acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Fasanya to the successes recorded by KASEDA within its first two years of operation and commended him for his enduring service to national development.

Governor Radda urged Nigerians to not only celebrate the publication but also study its lessons and embrace the values of dedication, integrity and purposeful leadership that it represents.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Fasanya revealed that he resigned from a lucrative position at the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), where he earned significantly higher remuneration, to join SMEDAN because of his desire to make meaningful contributions to national development and create lasting impact.

The author explained that his decision was driven by personal fulfilment and the opportunity to contribute to institution-building rather than financial considerations, noting that he was among the pioneer staff members of SMEDAN and later rose to become its Director-General.

The event attracted government officials, development experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers, members of the private sector and other distinguished guests from across the country.

"Your Future Is Our First Priority, says Governor Radda on Children's Day

* Gov Recounts Appointment of SA Children's Affairs, Multi-Million Naira Model Schools

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has extended warm and heartfelt felicitations to the children of Katsina State and across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 National Children's Day celebration, themed, "Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child."

Governor Radda described children as the most sacred trust any society holds — and reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child in Katsina, regardless of background, ability, or circumstance, has a genuine and dignified shot at a bright future.

"Today belongs to our children. They are not merely the leaders of tomorrow — they are the heartbeat of today. Every policy we make, every naira we invest, and every structure we build is ultimately for them," Governor Radda said.

The Governor noted the appointment of Faruq Umar Lema, a young boy from Batagarawa LG as his Special Assistant on Children's Affairs, adding that it symbolizes deep commitment to placing Children's voices at the centre of governance decision-making.

He further explained that the three multi-million naira Model and Smart Secondary Schools in the three senatorial zones — in Radda, Jikamshi, and Dumurkul — specifically designed for gifted children from poor, rural, and disadvantaged backgrounds who would otherwise have no access to quality education.

He said the facilities boast 24-hour electricity, internet connectivity, robotics and artificial intelligence laboratories, and a fully digital learning ecosystem — bringing technology-driven education to children who need it most.

The Governor noted with pride that 996 students are set to begin studies in the new schools, following a transparent special admissions process that has drawn commendation from European Union diplomats and international education observers alike.

Recognising that inclusion begins with getting every child through the school gate, the Building Your Future administration — in partnership with the Gwagware Foundation — launched the Back to School Programme, a dedicated intervention scheme targeting out-of-school children across the State.

The programme provides beneficiaries with school uniforms, writing materials, and conditional cash and business grants to mothers — removing the financial barriers that keep too many children on the wrong side of the classroom door.

The Governor recall that two dedicated Special Advisers on Out-of-School Children were appointed and swore-in, he described the decision as a governance that is committed to solving problems through structural means.

"No child in Katsina should be roaming the streets when there is a classroom waiting for them. We are not just talking about inclusion — we are funding it, staffing it, and tracking it," the Governor affirmed.

Governor Radda, this month, officially launched the Katsina State Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools— a comprehensive framework designed to protect students and teachers from insecurity, bullying, and gender-based violence across all schools in the State.

“The policy ensures that every school in Katsina functions as a safe, secure, and peaceful haven — an environment where children can focus entirely on growing, learning, and becoming,” Governor Radda explained.

Beyond physical safety, the Governor's administration has also consistently absorbed the full cost of WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS examination fees for all secondary school students in the State — lifting a burden that has historically forced many families to choose between survival and education.

"We declared war on school violence because our children deserve peace in their classrooms. And we paid their examination fees because no child's future should be held hostage by an invoice," Governor Radda said.

Going beyond the classroom, the administration has trained 2,000 students in bag production and other vocational skills, as a systematic way of equipping young Katsina people with entrepreneurial tools to create value, generate income, and build independence long after they leave school.

In closing his Children's Day message, Governor Radda called on parents, teachers, community leaders, and civil society to join hands in creating environments where every Nigerian child is safe, educated, included, and celebrated — not just on Children's Day, but every day of the year.

* Lenovo Commits Support Following Strong Delegates’ Performance

Katsina State continues to record steady progress in inclusive development and international engagement, with two students proudly presented at the Football For All Leadership Programme Africa 2026 held in Rabat, Morocco.

The programme, which ran from 10th to 16th May 2026, brought together young leaders and changemakers across Africa to advance leadership, inclusion, sports development, and opportunities for Persons With Special Needs through innovative community-driven approaches.

According to organisers, the initiative "serves as a platform for nurturing inclusive leadership and empowering young people to use sports as a tool for social transformation across communities in Africa."

The Katsina State delegation comprised main participants, support persons, and a state coordinator who represented the state at the international programme.

The two main participants were Nasir Dauda and Rufa’i Yau Zakka, supported by Hassana Mukhtar and Amina Babangida Jigama, while Aminatu Sulaiman Karofi served as State Coordinator.

The participation was achieved through a collaborative effort between the Katsina State Government, the Football For All initiative, and Ideas and Data Global Academy, who jointly co-funded the programme and provided technical guidance and mentorship throughout the selection and implementation process.

The engagement is described as a strategic investment in social inclusion, youth empowerment, and community transformation, rather than mere international exposure.

The beneficiaries are expected to lead step-down engagements across Katsina State focused on inclusive leadership training, sports for social integration, and community-based support for persons with special needs.

They will also drive youth participation and volunteerism, while strengthening local systems that promote dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all.

In addition, Lenovo has reportedly expressed interest in supporting the localisation of the initiative in Katsina State following strong presentations made by the state delegates during the programme.

According to the governor, “The monitoring team will ensure all projects meet prescribed UBEC Minimum Standards and help position Katsina State to attain performance-based rewards from the World Bank and other donor agencies.”
