Gov. Radda Mourns Former Katsina South Senator, Describes Death as Great Loss

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has expressed shock and sadness over the death of former Senator representing Katsina South, Senator Bello Mandiya, who died today, Monday, September 7, 2026, at the age of 62.

Governor Radda described the death as a great loss to Katsina State, particularly the people of Katsina South and the political community.

"I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria," Governor Radda said.

He described the late Senator as a committed public servant who contributed to the development of Katsina State and Nigeria.

"Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered," he added.

Governor Radda recalled that Senator Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Governor Aminu Bello Masari before being elected to the Senate, where he represented Katsina South from 2019 to 2023.

"His experience and service at both the state and federal levels remain part of his legacy," the Governor said.

Governor Radda condoled with the late Senator’s family, former Governor Aminu Bello Masari, the people of Katsina South, his political associates and friends, as well as his colleagues in the 9th Nigerian Senate.

"I pray Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah give his family and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss," Governor Radda added.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, today hosted members of the Zannan/Wali Foundation, a charitable foundation founded by the late Engineer Tukur Hassan Tingilin, former Managing Director of the Katsina State Water Board.

The Governor welcomed the foundation’s delegation and commended its commitment to sustaining the legacy of the late Engineer Tukur Hassan Tingilin through charitable and community-oriented activities.

Governor Radda also received some former PDP leaders who formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He welcomed the new members to the APC and assured them of his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness, unity and continued engagement with stakeholders across the state.

Governor Radda Calls for Wider NELFUND Access, Sensitisation Across Northwest

* Gov. Urges Student Leaders to Drive NELFUND Awareness

* NELFUND Will Complement Efforts of Parents, States in Supporting Students — Senate Committee

Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has called for wider awareness and utilisation of NELFUND across the Northwest, urging eligible students to benefit from the scheme.

Governor Radda made the call today in Katsina at the NELFUND sensitisation programme for tertiary institutions and students across the seven Northwest states, held at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly for establishing NELFUND, describing it as a major intervention that is expanding access to higher education for students facing financial challenges.

"This is one of the most remarkable achievements of the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in providing financial support to less-privileged students who may have the ability and potential but lack the financial means," he said.

Governor Radda also commended the NELFUND management for developing a programme that directly impacts Nigerian students.

He appealed to NELFUND to consider allowing students to complete their academic registration before institutional fees are paid through the scheme, saying this would reduce the financial pressure on students and parents.

"I appeal to the leadership of NELFUND to look into the possibility of allowing students to register for their academic programmes before their fees are paid through the scheme," he said.

The Governor further urged student leaders across the Northwest to take ownership of NELFUND sensitisation and ensure that eligible students understand how to apply and utilise the scheme.

"I am calling on student leaders to make this a priority and reach out to students across the various local governments and institutions to explain how to apply for NELFUND and how best to utilise the scheme,” he said.

Governor Radda noted that the Northwest was still lagging behind other regions in NELFUND utilisation, urging students to intensify awareness and ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are reached.

He disclosed that the Katsina State Government had already established committees that visited local government areas and tertiary institutions to sensitise students on NELFUND and other educational opportunities.

The Governor urged students to regard NELFUND as an opportunity created for them and to take responsibility for understanding and accessing it responsibly.

"NELFUND is not for somebody else; it is for you. You should therefore take full responsibility for understanding the scheme, accessing it responsibly and making full use of the opportunity it provides," he said.

Governor Radda thanked the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund for choosing Katsina to host the Northwest sensitisation programme and assured them of the state government’s continued support.

Earlier, Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator Muntari Mohammed Dandutse, said the campaign was aimed at improving awareness and helping students access NELFUND.

Speaking for universities in the region, Professor Umar Katsayal of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, commended NELFUND for reducing the financial burden of higher education on students and their families.

Dr. Kabir Ahmed Gwarzo of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano, called for sustained sensitisation to ensure that polytechnic students are fully informed about the scheme.

Chairman of the Polytechnics Association, Engr. Dr. Muhammad Kabir Abdullahi, also commended NELFUND and stressed the role of polytechnics and monotechnics in producing skilled manpower for economic development.

The programme brought together representatives of universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, institutional management, lecturers and students from the seven Northwest states.

The event was attended by members of the Senate Committee, including Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Senator Ibrahim Khalid, Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam Madori, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Senator Professor Francis Fadahunsi and Senator Professor Anthony Ani.

Governor Radda Vows Support for College of Education, Kafanchan Alumni Legacy Projects

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his support for the Old Boys Alumni Association of the College of Education, Kafanchan, and its proposed initiatives aimed at strengthening ties among former students and contributing to the development of their alma mater.

Governor Radda gave the assurance today while receiving his former classmates, members of the Old Boys Alumni Association of the College of Education, Kafanchan, 1985–1988 Class, at the General Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina.

The Governor expressed delight at hosting members of the alumni association, describing the gathering as an opportunity to renew the spirit of friendship, solidarity and brotherhood developed during their years at the institution.

He recalled that members of the alumni had supported him throughout his political journey in various ways, including financially, physically and morally.

“We grew up together, and God, in His own mercy, made me the Governor of this state. Since I started this journey, you have been part of it with me,” he said.

Governor Radda appreciated the alumni for their continued support, saying their contributions had played an important role in his journey to becoming Governor of Katsina State.

He said he was happy that he had not disappointed those who entrusted him with responsibilities, stressing that the College of Education, Kafanchan, produced graduates capable of excelling in different assignments.

“We are products of an institution that can hardly fail in any assignment given to us,” Governor Radda said.

The Governor described the College of Education, Kafanchan, as an important foundation in the lives of its alumni, noting that the academic training received at the institution contributed significantly to their subsequent success in university education and later in life.

He said although primary and secondary education provided the basic foundation, the College of Education, Kafanchan, also played a significant role in preparing them for higher education.

“When we proceeded to university education, many of us found it relatively easy because we had already acquired a strong academic foundation at Kafanchan,” he said.

Governor Radda commended the alumni for organising the programme and designing it to suit the present circumstances, expressing confidence that the objectives of the engagement would largely be achieved.

“I believe that with this arrangement, we will be able to achieve 80 to 90 per cent of our objectives, Insha Allah,” he said.

He said the gathering was not motivated by material benefits, noting that some members of the alumni had not even met him since he became Governor or benefited from his administration in any material way.

“Some of you have never met me since I became Governor, let alone benefited from me in any material way. So, this is not about material benefits. It is about friendship, brotherhood and our collective desire to make our state better,” Governor Radda said.

Responding to the legacy project proposed by the alumni, the Governor assured them that he would key into the initiative and provide the necessary support required to make it successful.

“I will key into the project you have presented and give all the necessary support that may be required to make it successful,” he assured.

Governor Radda also expressed appreciation for the fellowship award to be conferred on him by the College of Education, Kafanchan, saying he was hearing about the honour for the first time.

Radda personally he had looked forward to returning to some of the places where he spent his student days.

“I wish I could be there because I wanted to visit some of the places where we spent part of our student days,” he said.

Governor Radda specifically mentioned his desire to revisit some places in the college, where he stayed, as well as areas around the college, host communities and some of the hostels where they spent their student years.

“Honestly, it would have been a good homecoming, and I sincerely wish I could be there,” he said.

The Governor also acknowledged the diverse roles played by members of the alumni, noting that some were politicians, academics and activists, while others were contributing to society in different fields.

He said his involvement and contacts with government had also encouraged some alumni members to participate more actively in politics.

“I appreciate you for that,” he said.

Governor Radda called on the leadership and management of the alumni association to continue promoting unity among members and maintain the spirit of brotherhood, particularly in times of difficulty and moments of joy.

He recalled that some members had lost their parents and loved ones in the past, including during the period when they gathered in 2023.

He urged the alumni to remember deceased members and their loved ones in their prayers.

Governor Radda thanked the alumni for their leadership, support and cooperation, and called for the continuation of the relationship and fellowship among members, including their children and future generations.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Old Boys Alumni Association, College of Education, Kafanchan, Umar Dangi Abbas, said the proposed visit to the institution was more than a symbolic engagement, describing it as a homecoming for a distinguished alumnus and an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the institution, its alumni and the wider community.

He said the programme was designed to welcome Governor Radda back to the institution, not only as the Executive Governor of Katsina State, but also as a proud alumnus returning to an institution that formed an important part of his academic journey.

Abbas said the proposals presented during the engagement were aimed at reconnecting Governor Radda and other alumni with the roots of their academic journey, while contributing to the development of the institution.

He said one of the proposed legacy projects was the provision of two solar-powered boreholes for the College of Education, Kafanchan.

According to him, the project would provide a sustainable source of water for students and staff and address one of the immediate needs of the institution, subject to the necessary technical and financial feasibility assessment.

He said the proposed visit to traditional institutions would also provide an opportunity to strengthen cultural ties with custodians of heritage and deepen the relationship between the institution and its host community.

Dangi added that the forthcoming convocation would celebrate graduating students and provide an opportunity to confer a prestigious honour on Governor Radda as a distinguished alumnus of the institution.

He appreciated Governor Radda for providing the alumni with the opportunity to reconnect with him and discuss ways of contributing to the development of their alma mater.

Governor Radda Hails Tinubu-Shettima Solidarity Group’s Mobilisation Structure

* Gov. Urges Support for APC Candidates Ahead of 2027 Elections

* Group Projects 200,000 Votes for APC in Katsina

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commended the Tinubu-Shettima Solidarity Group for establishing a structured grassroots mobilisation network across Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Radda made the commendation today when he received the group on a solidarity visit to Government House, Katsina, where they presented their mobilisation structure and pledged support for the APC.

The Governor said the relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima had demonstrated loyalty, cooperation and commitment to the development of Nigeria.

"Anyone who says he loves Kashim Shettima and President Tinubu must recognise the opportunity President Tinubu gave Kashim Shettima to serve as Vice President alongside him," Governor Radda said.

He noted that the political party remained the platform through which candidates were presented to the electorate, stressing the need for members to support the APC and all its candidates during the forthcoming elections.

"APC is the platform we are using, APC is the party we want to win, and it is the party we trust Allah to grant victory so that we can continue with the good things being done for the public," he said.

Governor Radda therefore appealed to members of the group to support all APC candidates, from President Tinubu and other federal candidates to the Governor and State House of Assembly candidates.

He commended the group’s leadership for developing a structured database and grassroots mobilisation system, saying the initiative could provide an effective channel for communication and engagement with members.

The Governor said the registration and verification process would help establish direct links with supporters and improve coordination of political activities across the state.

He also acknowledged the commitment of members who responded to the group’s mobilisation efforts, describing their participation as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment to the APC.

"Your leadership and the work you have done are truly commendable. We sincerely appreciate you and all the members who responded to the call," Governor Radda said.

Governor Radda urged members of the group to remain united and continue working as one family within the APC for the progress of the party and the success of its candidates.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Tinubu-Shettima Solidarity Group and member representing Mani Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Zayyana Shuaibu Bujawa, said the group had established mobilisation structures across the 21 local government areas, wards and polling units to support the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said five mobilisers, including three women, would operate at each polling unit, with the group targeting 35,500 registered supporters and 200,000 votes for the APC in Katsina State.

"We are confident that this small group alone can produce at least 200,000 votes for the APC in Katsina State," he said.

Bujawa said registration and verification of polling-unit mobilisers had commenced across the state, assuring that the group would remain peaceful and committed to supporting the APC.

Also speaking, the Women Leader thanked Governor Radda for his support for women, saying three women would be mobilised at each polling unit, with each expected to mobilise five others.

She expressed confidence in massive support from Katsina women for the APC from the presidential to the local government level in the 2027 elections.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, earlier Sunday morning, graced the Maulud celebration organised by the Khalifa Sheikh Malam Nasiru Sheikh Sidi, at Kofar Kaura, Katsina.

The Maulud brought together Muslim faithful to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and reflect on his teachings, message of peace, unity and devotion to Allah.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs Hon Ishaq Shehu Dabai, delivered the Maulud sermon and conveyed Governor Radda’s goodwill and support to the organisers and participants.

The Commissioner commended the organisers for sustaining the tradition of commemorating the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), urging the faithful to emulate his exemplary character.

The event featured Qur’anic recitations, praises in honour of the Prophet (SAW), religious lectures and prayers for peace and unity.

Governor Radda: Strong Enterprises Will Grow Katsina’s Economy, Strengthen Security

…Women Group Praises Radda’s Empowerment of 17,400 people in Katsina

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to building a stronger entrepreneurial economy, urging women and young people to develop the skills, capacity and markets needed to turn their ideas into sustainable businesses.

Governor Radda stated this on Saturday at the fourth CEOs Round Table Summit and Exhibition, organised in Katsina by the Initiative of Innovative Youthpreneurs Sustainable Development.

He described entrepreneurship as the ability to identify problems and provide workable solutions, stressing that enterprise development remains important to household prosperity, job creation and the wider economy. He particularly commended the resilience of women entrepreneurs, noting their growing contribution to commerce and family livelihoods.

The Governor explained that access to money alone does not guarantee business success. According to him, entrepreneurs require the right skills, viable markets and financing to build enterprises capable of surviving beyond their early stages. “The links are capacity, market and finance,” Radda said, assuring entrepreneurs who meet the necessary requirements that the State Government remains open to supporting them, particularly women.

Governor Radda further linked productive engagement to security and social stability, observing that creating economic opportunities for young people can reduce idleness and some of the social pressures that contribute to insecurity. He encouraged young entrepreneurs not to abandon vocational skills and traditional trades, but to modernise them, improve their capacity and build viable markets around their products.

Speaking earlier, the Convener of the CEOs Round Table, Lubabatu Umar Ahmed, said the initiative was created to connect entrepreneurs with ideas, opportunities and successful business leaders from whom they could learn.

She praised the Radda administration's support for small and medium-scale enterprises, saying that interventions through agencies and programmes including KASEDA, Women Affairs and Girl-Child Education had empowered 17,400 people in Katsina State.

Ahmed said the Round Table had grown beyond simply bringing entrepreneurs together, with its focus now on helping participants explore opportunities capable of turning their ideas into successful ventures. She described the fourth edition as another step towards developing a new generation of entrepreneurs who can build businesses from Katsina and compete beyond the state and Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Banking and Finance, Bilkisu Suleiman Ibrahim, who represented the First Lady, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, urged young entrepreneurs to embrace technology, mentorship and financial inclusion while taking advantage of government interventions and partnerships.

She described the Round Table as an important platform for connecting business leaders, innovators and young entrepreneurs, opening doors to partnerships and new opportunities.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Aliyu Lawal Zakari Shargalle highlighted the administration's investment in practical skills and enterprise development. He disclosed that 120 young people were trained under the Songhai programme in the first year, followed by 361 in the second year and another 361 currently undergoing training, bringing the total to more than 800 beneficiaries. He added that beneficiaries receive start-up capital and grants after completing their training.
The Commissioner further disclosed that about 700 young men and women are undergoing additional skills acquisition and educational training, with the government providing financial support, modern toolkits and monthly allowances to help them succeed.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Abdullahi Malumfash said the administration was expanding economic opportunities for women through the Nigeria for Women Project. She announced that more than 4,000 women are expected to showcase their businesses at an exhibition scheduled for October 6, while 2,200 women are expected to receive grants. She added that 1,700 Women Affinity Groups had already been formed under the programme.

The CEOs Round Table brought together government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators and other stakeholders to exchange ideas, build networks and explore opportunities for sustainable enterprise development in Katsina State.

Governor Radda Assures Tinubu of Katsina’s Support for 2027 as PBAT Door-to-Door Movement Launches in Katsina

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Katsina State’s commitment to mobilize for his re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

Governor Radda gave the assurance on Saturday during the flag-off and inauguration of the Katsina State structure of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement at People’s Square, Katsina.

The Governor thanked the Founder and Convener of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for selecting Katsina as the first state for the northern launch of the initiative.

According to Governor Radda, Katsina remains a strong base of the All Progressives Congress, with all elected political office holders in the state being members of the APC and the party maintaining a united structure across the 34 LGAs.

"Katsina State is an APC state. Every elected person in Katsina State is a member of the All Progressives Congress, and I want to assure you that Katsina State has a special attachment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," Governor Radda said.

He traced the political relationship between President Tinubu and Katsina to historical ties with northern leaders. The Governor recalled President Tinubu’s role in the political process that led to the emergence of the late President Muhammadu Buhari from Daura in 2015.

Governor Radda also referenced the longstanding relationship between President Tinubu and the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and the ties that continued with the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, noting that such relationships have contributed to national unity and political cooperation.

Linking the choice of Katsina for the launch to the state’s political history, Governor Radda cited the intervention of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in the Niger Delta through the Presidential Amnesty Programme as an example of collaboration between the North and the Niger Delta that promoted peace.

On governance, the Governor said the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration have provided states with increased resources and created room for greater financial autonomy for Local Governments. He said this would improve service delivery at the grassroots in areas such as roads, education, healthcare, water supply, sanitation and markets.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came with a lot of reforms which have enabled state governors to do a lot of good work for the people of our states. We should remain ever grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," Governor Radda stated. He urged citizens to focus on the development benefits of the reforms.

Governor Radda further assured the President of Katsina’s support.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I want you to be rest assured that Katsina State is your state and will not let you down. We will support you, our people will support you, Insha Allah, so that you can continue with the good work you have started for the good people of Nigeria," he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Founder, High Chief Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi said the relationship between President Tinubu and Katsina State is built on trust, confidence and inclusion.

Representing High Chief Ekpemupolo, he urged members of the movement to take the message of the administration to the grassroots through door-to-door engagement in wards, communities, markets and households ahead of 2027.

Katsina State APC Chairman, Hon. Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, described the party in the state as a united family prepared for the 2027 elections.

He called on the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement to work closely with APC Local Government Chairmen and existing party structures to strengthen coordination.

The Coordinator of Renewed Hope in Katsina State and former Deputy Governor, Hon. Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi, said Katsina has historically played a significant role in Nigeria’s political development. He noted that the APC in Katsina remains united across the 361 wards and 34 LGAs and has no faction.

The Katsina State Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita, said the 34 LGA coordinators inaugurated at the event are committed to taking the message of renewed hope to every town, village and household in the state.

At the event, campaign vehicles were presented to coordinators of the movement across the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.
