National Programme Manager, NASSCO, Ms Funmi Olotu conduct high level advocacy visit to Nasarawa State Government and the Nasarawa State Operation Coordinating Unit (SOCU) in Lafia, the State capital on Tuesday, 8th July, 2025.

She was received by Hussaini Adamu Musa, State Coordinator, SOCU and Munirat Abdullahi, the Hon. Commissioner, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning.

The aim of the visit is to have first hand information on the current mass National Idenfication Number (NIN) enrollment drive exercise in the State which is in line with Mr. Presidents directive that all government cash transfer beneficiaries must have NIN for seamless cash transfer exercise.

During her visits to the State, the National Programme Manager (NPM) also undertook on-the-spot field visit to the Azuba Center community, interact with the stakeholders, household beneficiaries and the enumerators in the field.

She also undertook advocacy visit to His Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State where she highlighted areas of collaboration especially the ongoing NIN integration and enrollment exercise as the prerequisite for seamless cash transfer and other government interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Safety kits were also presented to the State.

The NPM, NASSCO also interact with the management and staff of SOCU and major recommendations were reached at.

The NPM had in attendance to her entourage, Mr. Daniel Amba, the National GRM; Mr. Timilehin Ayodele Ozoya, Head of Communications; Mr. Ezekiel Bala, the Zonal Targeting Officer and Esther Dooshima, Administrative Officer.

FG restarts direct cash transfers to 12m Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu’s administration will relaunch the direct cash transfers to benefit 12 million Nigerians to tackle the current hardship in the country.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this during the ministry’s retreat in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state on Wednesday.

According to Edun, the project which was initially created for 3 million Nigerian people, has been extended to more 12 million citizens.

Edun said, “The presidential panel on the social investment programmes, have prepared to go to Mr. President with an internal recommendation to restart the direct payments to the poorest and the most vulnerable. Everything is being done to ease the pain.

“We know that there’s been about 3 million beneficiaries now, but given the way the rates have gone, there are probably another 12 million people, households that can benefit from that payment.”

He said, “The only thing delaying that is not waiting for the end of the report. It is something that the intervention is meant to happen immediately.

“We have experts in technology, the commitment was to make sure that we use technology to ensure that we have a seamless payment, a seamless movement between the registered and the direct beneficiaries, without any manual processes in between. So it’s taking time to automate that process immediately that direct payment will resume”.

FG Intervention : Nasarawa Assembly tasks SOCU, on accurate, transparent data of vulnerable in the State.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged the State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU), a unit of the Federal Government intervention programme to ensure transparency and accuracy in generating data for the poor and vulnerable ones in the State that will benefit from the program.

This, the House said, was to ensure that only the poor benefited from the N5000 monthly stipend provided by the Federal Government for the poor in the state.

Hon Onarigu Onah Kana, the Chairman, House Committee on SDGs made the call during a familiarization visit of State Operations Coordinating Unit, SOCU to the committee today in Lafia.

He also urged the SOCU to shun sentiments in generating data for the poor and vulnerable ones in order to improve on their standard of living.

" We want to advise you to be sincere, transparent and ensure accuracy in generating data for the poor and vulnerables.

" This is to ensure that only the poor and vulnerable benefits from the Federal Government intervention programme for the poor in the state," he said.

Hon Onarigu said that the committee would not fold its hands to watch anybody generate wrong data for the poor in the State.

He assured the SOCU of their readiness to support them to succeed at all times.

Mr Hussaini Adamu Musa, the State Coordinator, Nasarawa State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU) said that the have generated 500,000 Households and I million individuals data in the state.

He disclosed that 48, 000 poor are currently benefiting from the N5000 monthly in the State.

The Coordinator said that the data have been generated through community based approach to generate names of the poor and vulnerables.

The coordinator assured of their commitment to generate accurate and reliable date for the poor and vulnerable ones in the state.

VP OSINBAJO, GOV SULE, others Discuss Implementation Of N400b Allocation In 2022 Budget

The Steering Committee of the Presidential Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy met on Thursday to discuss the implementation of the N400billion allocated for poverty reduction in the 2022 Budget.

A member of the committee, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State, stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after the committee’s meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Governor Sule said that N350billion out of the N400billion was allocated to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for the expansion of its various programmes.

“The Humanitarian Ministry is going to take N350billion for the expansion of the various programmes like GEEP(Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme), Conditional Cash Transfer, Farmer Money, Market Money and the rest of that,” he stated.

Governor Sule said that the Steering Committee had at its last meeting set up various working groups to prepare what is required in the implementation of the budget.

He said that based on the recommendations of the working groups and approvals by the president, the committee met and discussed the implementation.

According to Gov. Sule, the balance of N50billion will be reserved for other programmes in agriculture, construction of rural roads and electricity, particularly solar energy.

Presidential Muhammed Buhari set up the Steering Committee in June last year to oversee the implementation of the poverty reduction and growth strategy geared towards his plans to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
