ORDINANCE DAY

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nasarawa State Directorate, joined its counterparts across the country to commemorate September 16th as Ordinance Day in Nigeria.

To mark the occasion, the State Directorate, led by Mr. Augustine Akwe, embarked on sensitization visits to St. James High School Lafia, the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development. The aim was to enlighten and conscientize citizens on the nation’s symbols and the importance of according them due respect as instruments that unite and bind us together as a nation.

At St. James High School, students were educated on the correct rhythm of the National Anthem, the proper usage of each stanza, and the need to respect the national currency, flag, coat of arms, and other national symbols.

At the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development, the State Director was received by the Permanent Secretaries, Mohammad Sani Bala (Education) and Yarima Mari (Lands), alongside their directors. Mr. Akwe used the opportunity to educate them on the proper placement of the Coat of Arms, the correct hoisting of the National Flag, and other symbolic protocols. He also commended the Ministry of Education for its recent decision to ban the practice of "sign out" in schools across the state.

In his address, Mr. Augustine reaffirmed the Directorate’s unwavering commitment to fostering unity and progress in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.

Media Engagement on Government Policies, National Values, Security Awareness, Disaster Preparedness, and National Identity

The State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nasarawa State, Mr. Augustine Akwe, featured on Radio Nigeria, Precious FM Lafia on September 2nd, 2025, where he sensitized the public on the ongoing nationwide campaign covering five thematic areas:

1. Government Policies
2. National Values
3. Security Awareness
4. Disaster Preparedness
5. National Identity

During the engagement, Mr. Akwe also used the platform to enlighten citizens on the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the process to strengthen democratic participation.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of the ongoing Measles and Rubella vaccination campaign, encouraging parents and guardians to present their children for immunization in order to safeguard public health.

The program was highly impactful and provided an avenue for the Agency to deepen public awareness and mobilize citizens towards active participation in nation-building.

CONTINUATION OF ENLIGHTENMENT CAMPAIGN ON FIVE THEMATIC AREAS

In line with the ongoing nationwide enlightenment campaign on Government Policies, National Values, Security Awareness, Disaster Preparedness, and National Identity, the Nasarawa State Directorate held its roadshow in Lafia Metropolis on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025.

The campaign commenced at the Neighbourhood Market, the designated converging point, at 8 : 41 AM, with an address by the State Director, Mr. Augustine Akwe, who urged staff to remain of good conduct throughout the exercise.

The sensitization route covered Neighbourhood Market → Kasuwan Koro → Makurdi Road Motor Park.

In addition to the five thematic areas, the campaign also highlighted the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by INEC and the ongoing Measles-Rubella (MR) Immunization program. Using different Nigeria languages.

Public Reactions
The Directorate received mixed feedback from members of the public during the exercise. Concerns raised included:
1. Worsening economic hardship - high cost of living.
2. Non-prosecution of election offenders, particularly among the elite.
3. Need for government to intensify efforts in addressing security challenges.
4. Calls for measures to alleviate the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Conclusion
The roadshow successfully drew attention to critical national issues and ongoing government initiatives, while also providing an avenue for citizens to voice their concerns and expectations. The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the enlightenment drive across the state.

FLAG-OFF OF NATIONWIDE CAMPAIGN ON GOVERNMENT POLICIES AND PROGRAMS, NATIONAL VALUES, SECURITY AWARENESS, DISASTER PREPAREDNESS, AND NATIONAL IDENTITY

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nasarawa State Directorate, officially launched its nationwide campaign with a press conference held at the Conference Hall of the State Directorate, Lafia, on Thursday, 28th August 2025.

The State Director, Mr. Augustine Akwe, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the campaign, which is designed to deepen citizens’ understanding of government policies, foster national values, and strengthen community resilience.

Representing the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Deputy Director, Civic Values and Democracy Education (CVDE), Barr. Rhoda Istifanus Sadus, highlighted key areas of the campaign, including:

Government Programs: Sensitization on social safety net initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), and TraderMoni, designed to uplift Nigerians and promote inclusive growth.

National Symbols: Re-orientating citizens on the significance of Nigeria’s national symbols as instruments of unity and identity.

Security Awareness: Encouraging vigilance and community participation in promoting peace and security.

National Identity: Emphasizing the importance of shared identity in building a united and prosperous Nigeria.

National Values: Promoting patriotism, discipline, and civic responsibility as the foundation of nation-building.

Disaster Preparedness: Raising awareness on flood preparedness and mitigation to safeguard lives and property.

In his goodwill message, the Osakpa of Akpanaja, Alhaji Musa Abari Agye, commended the Agency for its efforts in mobilizing citizens towards national unity and development.

Also present at the launch were senior officials of the Agency, including the Deputy Director, CVDE, Deputy Director, HRM, representatives of media organizations, and other stakeholders.

The Agency reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to nation-building, civic enlightenment, and the promotion of Nigeria’s core values through continuous engagement with citizens across the country.
