Today, I join millions across the globe to commemorate World Environment Day and to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and healthier Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.

Environmental cleanliness is not just a policy — it is a pillar of our developmental agenda. A healthy environment strengthens public health, drives economic growth, and improves the quality of life for all. I commend our residents for their growing participation in sanitation exercises and urge everyone to sustain the culture of proper waste disposal, drainage maintenance, and environmental responsibility.

Our council continues to intensify efforts through regular sanitation, enforcement operations, sensitization campaigns, and partnerships with stakeholders. But true progress requires collective action. I call on residents, market operators, artisans, transport unions, youth groups, and community leaders to take ownership of their surroundings and contribute positively to a cleaner environment.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, let us remember that the future of our community depends on the actions we take today. Together, we can build a cleaner, safer, and greener Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.

HEEWA Agenda: Service to the People. Prosperity for All.

Jakande's Òdì-Olowo Extends May Sanitation Beyond Routine

The newly introduced environmental sanitation in Lagos State has often been reduced to a monthly ritual — a brief pause on the last Saturday, followed by a return to indiscipline. But in Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, the month of May exercise proved different. It was not just observed; it was extended, enforced, and embraced as a civic duty.

Executive Chairman Dr. Seyi Jakande led from the front, flanked by health officials, OWAS personnel, councillors, and members of the Environmental Committee under the Vice Chairman’s supervision. Their work did not end with May’s statewide exercise.

On *June 1 and 2*, the council pressed on, covering critical areas where sanitation lapses often persist — Ogunmokun/Kayode Pedestrian Bridge, Johnson Street/Akinsete Axis, Ilupeju Industrial Layout, Ayantuga Primary Health Centre, Olateju Axis, Oyewole Street, and Shylion.

At each site, refuse was cleared, nuisances dismantled, and residents sensitized on proper waste disposal. The continuity of enforcement underscored a vital truth: sanitation cannot be confined to a single Saturday; it must be a sustained ethic.

The results were encouraging. Many communities demonstrated improved compliance, reflecting growing awareness. Yet, stubborn pockets of indiscipline remain — clogged drains, indiscriminate dumping — reminding us that enforcement must be paired with deeper public education.

Dr. Jakande’s insistence on “shared responsibility” is not mere rhetoric. It aligns with the HEWA Agenda’s vision of sustainability and public health, but more importantly, it challenges Lagosians to move beyond lamentation and embrace participation. Cleaner streets are not just about aesthetics; they are about dignity, health, and civic consciousness.

Jakande's Òdì-Olowo has shown that with persistence and leadership, sanitation can move from ritual to reality. The rest of Lagos should take note: environmental responsibility is not a spectacle, it is a daily duty.
