The management of Olorunda Local Council Development Area is inviting interested caterers and food vendors to bid for the management of the newly refurbished staff canteen at the Council Secretariat, Iworo, Olorunda, Badagry, Lagos State.

The successful vendor will be expected to operate the canteen at his or her own expense, prepare and sell a variety of quality and affordable meals to members of staff of the Council.

Interested caterers and food vendors must be capable of effectively managing the canteen and providing a range of meals that will meet the needs and preferences of Council staff.

The Olorunda Local Council Development Area has ordered the immediate suspension of the collection of trade permit payments from Point of Sale operators pending further administrative review and stakeholder engagement.

The decision follows concerns raised by some residents regarding the โ‚ฆ300 weekly payment being collected from POS operators within the Council area.

The Council said it considers it necessary to temporarily suspend the collection in the interest of clarity, transparency and continued engagement with the affected business operators.

The Council explained that the payment arrangement followed engagements between the management of Olorunda LCDA and representatives of POS operators operating across the Council area prior to the commencement of the collection.

According to the Council, the engagements focused on establishing an appropriate trade permit arrangement for POS operators, many of whom had not previously been covered by any trade permit payment to the Council despite operating commercial businesses within its jurisdiction.

The Council said a proposed payment of โ‚ฆ300 per week was discussed during the stakeholder engagements and agreed upon by representatives of the operators and the management of the LCDA.

The Council, however, acknowledges the concerns expressed by residents and other stakeholders and recognises the important role POS operators play in providing financial services to communities, particularly in areas where access to conventional banking facilities may be limited.

The administration therefore considers it important that any revenue arrangement affecting such operators is implemented in a manner that is transparent, properly communicated and sensitive to the realities of small business operators.

Consequently, the collection of the affected POS trade permit payment is suspended with immediate effect pending further notice from the Council.

During the suspension period, POS operators are not required to make the affected weekly payment to the Council or to anyone who may falsely present themselves as a staff member or revenue agent of the Council.

The Council will also engage representatives of POS operators and other relevant stakeholders as part of the review process. Further information will be provided to the public on the outcome of the review and any subsequent steps.

Olorunda LCDA appreciates residents and stakeholders who have sought clarification on the matter and assures the public that the administration remains committed to responsible revenue administration, transparency and the protection of legitimate businesses operating within the Council area.

The Council urges POS operators and residents to disregard speculation and await official communication on the outcome of the review.

Olorunda LCDA remains committed to maintaining a constructive relationship with the business community and ensuring that its revenue processes are administered in accordance with the applicable legal and administrative framework.

The Olorunda Local Council Development Area has officially commenced the application process for its 2026 Bursary Award for eligible students in the Council Area.

The bursary programme is open to undergraduate students pursuing BSc, HND, ND and NCE programmes, as well as postgraduate students.

Interested applicants are required to complete the online application form and upload clear copies of the following documents, with each file not exceeding 1MB in PDF or JPG format:

1. Admission Letter
2. School Identity Card
3. Passport Photograph
4. National Identification Number NIN
5. Letter of Identification from the Oba
6. LASRRA Card or Identification
7. Identification Letter from Olorunda LCDA

Applicants are advised to ensure that all uploaded documents are clear and legible. Only one application will be accepted from each applicant.

The application portal opens on Monday, August 24, 2026, and closes on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon Ajose Peter Kumayon, has called on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in the council to close ranks, shun division and work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ajose made the call yesterday during a meeting with APC leaders, council executives, ward leaders and party executives across the five wards of Olorunda LCDA at the council secretariat in Iworo.

The meeting, which attracted a strong turnout of party stakeholders, focused on strengthening unity within the party and building a coordinated grassroots structure capable of delivering victory for the APC in the 2027 elections.

Addressing the gathering, Ajose said the APC could only move forward through unity, commitment and loyalty, stressing that he would not support any form of factionalisation within the party.

He urged members to put personal grievances and differences aside and embrace the collective interest of the party, saying the priority of every committed APC member should be securing victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

He specifically urged party members to mobilise support for the APC governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, and his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James, as well as the party's candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and the Lagos State House of Assembly seats covering Badagry Constituency I and II.

According to Ajose, Olorunda LCDA has a critical role to play in determining the APC's fortunes in Badagry, given its large voting population.

He therefore charged party leaders and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work tirelessly to secure victory for the party.

Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Olorunda LCDA, Hon Babalola Ebenezer, supported the call for unity and commitment, urging members to put aside grievances and uphold the supremacy of the party.

Ebenezer called for increased mobilisation across the five wards, stressing that the party's strength ahead of 2027 would depend largely on the ability of its members to work together.

The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon Bolaji Adele Solomon, members of the council's executive, APC leaders and executives at the local council and ward levels, among other party stakeholders.

At the end of the meeting, the party leadership reaffirmed its commitment to the APC and pledged to work collectively and tirelessly towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
