NIJ Wins HICOMS School Of The Year
Nigerian Institute of Journalism has been named School of the Year at the Higher Institutions Convention of Muslim Students, HICOMS 2026.
The award was presented during the Dinner and Awards Night organised by the Council of Higher Institutions, COHI, on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
COHI noted that the event was to celebrate excellence and outstanding contributions by institutions and students across Nigeria.
The award was formally handed over to the NIJ management on Monday, June 29, 2026, by the Amir of the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, MSSN-NIJ Chapter, Yusuf Sodiq. He was joined by the Amirah, Adelaja Shokuroh, and the General Secretary, Oshodi Rofiat.
Receiving the award, the Provost of NIJ, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, commended the MSSN-NIJ executives for their dedication and leadership.
Speaking further, he pointed out that the recognition reflects the students’ pursuit of excellence not only in religious activities, but also in academics and character.
According to him, the honour has brought pride to the institution.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Provost, Dr. Boyeola Ola, and the Registrar, Mrs. Kalesanwo.
In his remarks, the Amir thanked the school management for its continuous support and for providing a conducive environment for the 2025/2026 MSSN-NIJ administration to carry out its activities, while also appealed for the same support for the incoming administration in the institution.
In response, the Provost assured the students that NIJ would continue to support all recognised student societies regardless of religious affiliation.
He therefore reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to creating an environment where every student organisation can thrive while promoting academic excellence and positive campus engagement.
Meanwhile, the presentation ended with a group photograph with the award and the MSSN-NIJ executives expressed gratitude to the Provost, Deputy Provost, and Registrar for celebrating the society’s contribution to the growth and reputation of NIJ.
