Have you ever wondered why runners always go counterclockwise around the track? Surprisingly, this wasn’t always the case. In the early days of modern athletics, including the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, runners competed clockwise in races like the 200m, 400m, and 800m.

But many athletes found that direction uncomfortable and even painful. By 1913, officials decided to standardize track running in the counterclockwise direction, and it has remained the global norm ever since.

Today, science provides interesting insight into why counterclockwise movement feels so natural. Blood circulates through the human body in a counterclockwise flow, and electrons orbit their nuclei in the same way. On a larger scale, the Moon circles Earth counterclockwise, Earth revolves around the Sun counterclockwise, and the planets all follow this direction in their orbits. Even the Sun and our galaxy itself rotate counterclockwise.

Cultural traditions also reflect this rhythm of movement. For example, for more than 1400 years, Muslims have circled the Kaaba in Mecca in a counterclockwise direction during pilgrimage rituals.

All of this suggests that counterclockwise motion isn’t just a random choice for runners. It connects with a deeper, natural rhythm that humans instinctively align with.

☀️ Mark your calendars! The first solar eclipse of the year is coming

On March 29, skywatchers in parts of the Northern Hemisphere will be treated to a partial solar eclipse, where the Moon will take a noticeable bite out of the Sun. While not a total eclipse, this celestial event still offers a beautiful and dramatic sight — if you're in the right place at the right time.

🌍 Where It’s Visible:
This eclipse will be visible at sunrise and shortly after from parts of North America, especially in northern Quebec, Greenland, Iceland, and much of Europe and northwest Africa. As the Sun climbs higher in the morning sky, the eclipse will become easier to see in these areas.

🌑 The Best View:
The maximum eclipse, where 93% of the Sun will be covered, happens near Akulivik, an Inuit village in northern Quebec, Canada — about 1,150 miles (1,850 km) north of Montreal. The closer you are to Akulivik, the more dramatic the eclipse will be.

In 2020, a teacher from Mexico known as Nay, was driven by the need to ensure that children with autism did not fall behind in their education during the pandemic, when schools were closed.

She faced a unique challenge: many of her students lacked access to essential educational resources like books and the internet.

Nay transformed her pickup truck into a mobile classroom to reach her students. She drove two hours each day to teach these children, adhering to social distancing and sanitation protocols.

Her students were primarily children with autism who did not have access to educational materials or digital tools.
