PROGRESSIVE STRIDES FOR EDUCATION IN AMUWO ODOFIN: Hon. Kate Banjoko and Hon. Amiral Ibrahim Pay Courtesy Visit to Education Secretary, Hon. Salako Omotosho Rasaq

In a strategic move to reposition basic education, safety, and vocational training across our community, the newly appointed Supervisor for Education and Library Services, Hon. Kate Banjoko, alongside the Special Adviser (S.A.) on Education and Library Services, Hon. Amiral Ibrahim, paid a highly progressive courtesy visit to the Education Secretary of the Amuwo Odofin LGEA, Hon. Salako Omotosho Rasaq.
Also in attendance to foster this crucial inter-agency synergy were key stakeholders from the LGA Education Department, Mrs. Olugbogi and Mr. Lamidi Ambali, alongside the HOS HRM&A, Mr. Dumade Sunday, and the P.A. to the ES/ICT Coordinator, Mr. Hundo David.

🏫 Executive Approval for Immediate School Renovations
A major highlight of the engagement was the formal presentation of an executive directive from the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA, Prince Lanre Sanusi. Driven by a proactive commitment to upgrading our public primary schools, the Executive Chairman has granted immediate approval for the comprehensive renovation and rehabilitation of the following schools:
*2nd Avenue N/P School, 24 Road, Festac Town
*Ideal N/P School, 3rd Avenue, Festac Town
*An-Sarudeen N/P School, Abule-Ado
*Community N/P School, Festac Extension, Mile 2
*L.A N/P School, Igbologun (Riverine)
*Itun Agan Primary School (Riverine)

📝 Key Action Points & Strategic Deliberations
The working session also served as an open channel to evaluate and address pressing infrastructure, security, and administrative needs across all 22 public primary schools and 4 Education Vocational Centres under her jurisdiction:

*Vocational Advancement: Prioritizing the immediate equipping and modernization of our two (2) Computer Vocational Centres to ensure up-to-date digital literacy for our pupils.

*School Health & Environment: Implementing a mandatory protocol for the comprehensive clearing of bushes and fumigation of all schools immediately following the long vacation to ensure a clean, safe, and pest-free environment for returning pupils.

*Infrastructure Upgrades: Accelerating structural interventions, including a new block of classrooms at Igbologun Primary School and Bishop Kodji Primary School and secure perimeter fencing/gates for all riverine schools.

*Robust School Security: Partnering directly with the Nigeria Police Force for constant environmental patrols, alongside deploying Forest Guards and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) to safeguard our pupils and teachers.

*Community Engagement: Organizing an all-inclusive Security Summit bringing together staff, pupils, and parents to institutionalize safety awareness.

*Institutional Support: Addressing staff furniture shortages, facilitating running cost support for the 22 schools and 4 centres, and launching the rehabilitation of the LGEA Administrative Secretariat.

This milestone visit charts a highly progressive path forward. The alignment between the Local Government Council and the LGEA guarantees a brighter, safer, and more innovative future for basic education in Amuwo Odofin!

In a proactive bid to ensure administrative excellence, robust security, and seamless end-of-term operations across Amuwo Odofin public primary schools, the Education Secretary of Amuwo Odofin LGEA, Hon. SALAKO Omotosho Rasaq, convened a comprehensive pre-vacation and examination briefing for school managers in Amuwo Odofin LGEA.

The strategic meeting brought together Heads of Sections (HOSs), and school administrators to deliberate on critical operational guidelines, upcoming statutory exercises, and professional conduct.

🔑 Key Highlights & Policy Directives:
🛡️ Prioritizing School Security: With child safety as our top priority, administrators were urged to maintain high vigilance and implement strict security and safety protocols within their school premises.

đźš« Alternatives to Corporal Punishment: The forum strongly reinforced that corporal punishment is not the best means of discipline. Administrators are encouraged to foster positive, nurturing, and constructive behavioural correction methods.

📱 Digital Content Safeguards: To protect the privacy of our pupils and preserve the integrity of public institutions, strict limits have been set regarding the unauthorized recording and sharing of digital content involving pupils and government facilities on social media.

📊 Statutory Records & Continuity: All schools must meticulously update their statutory records (including Admission Registers and Nominal Rolls) before embarking on vacation. The timely submission of detailed Handing Over Notes is mandatory for administrative continuity.

🎓 Scholarship Drive: Administrators were charged to take proactive steps to identify and position eligible pupils for scholarship programs and external opportunities.

🏢 Departmental & Sectional Updates:
👥 Social Mobilization (HOS Mr. Adesina): Emphasized the vital role of School-Based Management Committees (SBMC) and Parent Forums (PF). He highlighted the need for consistent meetings, timely reports, aggressive enrollment drives, and active collaboration with NGOs.

📝 Quality Assurance (HOS BEQA-Mrs Siyanbola): Directed immediate preparations for compiling Admission Registers and announced a School Self-Evaluation Seminar coming soon.

🔍 LGEA AUDITOR-Mr Fowewe: Announced a mandatory Staff Audit upcoming in August 2026. All staff members must prepare their July 2026 Payslip and Nominal Roll in readiness for this exercise.

Today at the LGEA Hall, we took a significant step forward in enhancing the quality of literacy and learning in our schools. We were delighted to host the Vanguard Media "Newspaper in Education" (NiE) Training for selected Head Teachers, a program designed to build informed, critical, and responsible students through the power of the press.

Event Highlights:
Distinguished Host: Our Education Secretary, Hon. Salako Rasaq, hosted the session and addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of innovative teaching tools in modern education.

Expert Facilitation: Mrs. Ajumobi (Vanguard Media Team lead) led an engaging training session, highlighting how current events can be integrated into the classroom curriculum. Practical Resources: As part of the program, headteachers were provided with copies of the Vanguard newspaper to begin implementing these strategies in their schools.
