The Isese Day celebration is an important occasion to recognise and preserve the rich cultural heritage, history, traditions, and indigenous identity of the Yoruba people. This year’s celebration, themed “Return of the Deities (Ìpadàbọ̀ Àwọn Irúmọ̀lè)”, provides an opportunity to reflect on our roots while strengthening the values that unite us as a people.

Our Culture remains a powerful instrument for unity, peaceful coexistence, community development, and good governance. The preservation of our indigenous heritage aligns with our administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, community engagement, and the promotion of values that bring people together.

*BLACK SPOT EVACUATION: MOP-UP EXERCISE CONTINUES IN IRU-VICTORIA ISLAND*

In compliance with the Clean Start, Bright Future Initiative of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi, the Environmental Health Services Department of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA has continued its regular mop-up exercise across various parts of the LCDA.

The exercise, led by the Sanitarian, Aminu Mayowa, alongside the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Adetimi Durojaiye, was carried out yesterday across Olosa Street, Karim Ikotun Street, Bishop Oluwole by Ologun Agbaje, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ajose Adeogun off Jibowu Martins Street, Akin Adesola Street, and Water Corporation off Oniru Street.

The regular activities included refuse evacuation, street sweeping, and public sensitisation, with the aim of improving environmental cleanliness and promoting responsible waste disposal among residents, traders, and other stakeholders.

The exercise recorded an improved level of compliance, particularly within commercial areas. However, some challenges remain, including illegal dumping, late waste disposal, blocked drainage channels, indiscriminate parking, and non-compliance by some traders.

The Environmental Health Services team reiterated the need for residents and business owners to take greater responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

While the exercise has resulted in noticeable improvements in environmental cleanliness, the LCDA will sustain continuous monitoring, enforcement, public awareness, and sensitisation campaigns to achieve more significant and lasting results.

AOA administration remains committed to the Clean Start, Bright Future Initiative as Vital environment reflects in the blueprint ACHIEVES Agenda, and to ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally responsible Iru-Victoria Island LCDA.
