Bariga Legislative Arm Champions Reforms for a Stronger Community
Plenary Sitting Report – Bariga Local Council Legislative Arm

The plenary sitting of the Bariga Local Council Legislative Arm commenced with the presentation of the Order of the Day by the Council Leader, Rt. Hon. Balogun Wasiu Adeleke, setting the tone for a session centered on impactful legislative deliberations and community-focused policy initiatives.
During the sitting, the Council Leader introduced a series of strategic bills aimed at enhancing public order, safety, and environmental sustainability in Bariga. These included:
A Bill to prohibit and criminalize the obstruction of public roads, streets, and rights of way.
A Bill to regulate and restrict street begging, street trading, and indiscriminate solicitation of alms in public spaces, except within designated religious centres.
A Bill to prohibit scavenging activities within residential neighbourhoods and enforce strict penalties.
A Bill on the regulation and management of abandoned buildings within the Local Government Area.
The Deputy Leader, Hon. Sakiru Abiola, presented two key bills for consideration:
A Bill mandating the payment of appropriate revenue for decking and building activities within Bariga LCDA.
A Bill for the establishment and regulation of the Bariga Sports Association, aimed at promoting youth engagement and structured sporting development.
Further contributions were made by Hon. Oluseun Onakoya, who introduced:
A Bill on Local Infrastructure Maintenance and Beautification.
A Bill promoting Local Content in Vocational Skills Training, designed to enhance community capacity development and socio-economic growth.
Hon. Surajudeen Olawale Oloko also presented:
A Bill regulating game centres and clubhouses.
A Bill on the regulation and control of bicycle operations within Bariga, focused on ensuring public safety and orderly urban activities.
Following the presentations, the Majority Leader, Hon. Funmi Adeogun, moved a motion for the formal adoption of the proposed bills into the legislative process. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved by the Legislative Council. In accordance with legislative procedure, the Council Leader referred the bills to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for detailed scrutiny and further legislative action.
During deliberations, Hon. Christina Ogbere commended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Bukola Adedeji, for ongoing infrastructural interventions, particularly in road construction across the community. The Honourable Member also highlighted a prolonged gate closure issue affecting residents for over five years, which was resolved.
Honourable members of the 6th Legislative council collectively acknowledged the efforts of the Executive Chairman, recognizing the visible progress in governance and the continued commitment to development within Bariga.
The sitting concluded with a motion for adjournment moved by the Majority Leader, seconded by Hon. Onakoya, and a closing prayer delivered by Hon. Surajudeen Olawale Oloko.
The session was marked by constructive deliberations and the introduction of forward-looking, people-oriented bills, reaffirming the Legislative Arm’s dedication to responsive governance, structured development, and the welfare of Bariga residents.
