GREATER BORNO UNITY CUP 2026
GUBIO STRATEGIC IDEAS CIRCLE (GSIC)
TOURNAMENT ORGANISING COMMITTEE
DISCIPLINARY DECISION AIBA SPORT HAUSARI
22 August 2026
Following todayβs Semi-Final between AIBA Sport Hausari and Team Corntwon, the Tournament Organising Committee has carefully reviewed the incidents that occurred immediately after the final whistle, including the concerns raised by the team regarding the timing of the final whistle.
The Committee understands that emotions can run high, particularly after a closely contested match. However, disagreement with a refereeβs decision must always be expressed through the appropriate channels and within the spirit of sportsmanship.
Unfortunately, the situation after the match went beyond a normal disagreement. There were reports of insults, intimidation and confrontational behaviour towards the referees, match officials and members of the Organising Committee, while some supporters outside the venue were also reported to have made threatening statements towards the officials. This created unnecessary panic and raised genuine concerns for the safety of those involved.
The Committee considers this conduct a serious violation of the commitment signed by all participating teams, particularly the provisions requiring teams and their supporters to:
1. Maintain discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.
2. Respect the decisions and authority of referees and tournament officials.
3. Refrain from violence, intimidation, abusive language or any conduct capable of disrupting the tournament.
4. Accept responsibility for the conduct of their players, officials and supporters.
5. Accept disqualification as a possible consequence of serious misconduct.
After careful consideration and consultation with the match officials, the Tournament Organising Committee has therefore decided that:
AIBA Sport Hausari is disqualified from further participation in the Greater Borno Unity Cup 2026 and will not participate in the Third-Place Match.
This decision is not about the teamβs performance on the pitch or its right to raise concerns. It is solely a response to the conduct that followed the match and the need to protect the safety, discipline, respect and integrity of the tournament.
We appreciate the efforts of all teams that have participated in the competition and urge everyone to allow the remaining matches to conclude peacefully and in the spirit of unity, fair play and respect upon which the Greater Borno Unity Cup was established.
