THE RAIN CAME WITH TEARS: A Dedicated Officer’s Life Cut Short by Lightning

The rain often comes with its own blessings, but this one arrived with a heartbreaking streak of tragedy.

It was on a quiet Wednesday, 7th May, 2026, at about 2:19pm, when Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as “Buratai” a Police Officer widely respected for his dedication, commitment, and passion for duty was carrying out his routine responsibility of coordinating vehicle parking opposite Borno State Police Command Headquarters alongside his senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu.

As strong winds began to gather, both officers reportedly attempted to seek shelter before the rain started. But in a sudden and devastating moment, a loud thunderclap echoed through the atmosphere, followed instantly by a powerful lightning strike that hit both officers while they were still on duty.

While ASP Wazani Adamu survived in what may be described as a miracle, unfortunately, Inspector Abdulkadir Garba who was the direct impact sadly lost his life with partial burns on his body.

In a cruel twist of nature, a man who stood daily under the scorching sun and uncertain weather to maintain order and serve humanity lost his life, not to violence or conflict, but to the force of the storm.

Inspector Abdulkadir Garba was more than a Police Officer to many, he was a familiar face, a hardworking officer, and a symbol of dedication to service. His sudden passing has left shock, grief, and painful memories in the hearts of colleagues and members of the public who knew him.

Sometimes, life reminds us how fragile and unpredictable it can be. One moment, duty calls. The next moment, eternity answers.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Following recent incidents involving Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) recorded in Borno State, members of the public are strongly advised to remain vigilant and security conscious at all times.

Particular attention should be paid to suspicious objects, especially unattended power banks, abandoned bags, nylons, parcels, or any unusual items found in public places, as such objects may pose serious security threats.

Members of the public are urged not to touch, move, or tamper with any suspicious item, but to immediately report same to the nearest police station or call the following emergency contacts: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293.

RECOVERY OF ABANDONED IED

On 5th May, 2026, at about 0900hrs, during routine surveillance and foot patrol, operatives of the Borno State Police Command recovered a suspicious bag abandoned at Layin Logo, Moduganari area of Maiduguri.

The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit Base 13 was immediately deployed to the scene, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed in the bag was identified and safely detonated in line with standard operating procedures.

Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or objects to the nearest Police Station or call the following Emergency Contacts: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293.

ENHANCING PROFESSIONALISM: CP NAZIRU ABDULMAJID WARNS AGAINST TORTURE AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES

The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, has reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in the discharge of policing duties across the State.

This was emphasized during a lecture delivered by the Commissioner of Police at the Command’s Monday briefing held today, 4th May, 2026, with Tactical Commanders, Heads of Departments, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) at the Command HQ Maiduguri.

Addressing senior officers, the CP strongly warned against all forms of torture, excessive use of force, and abuse of fundamental human rights, stressing that such acts are unlawful, unprofessional, and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He described such misconduct as a clear violation of established policing standards, the rule of law, and the core values of the Nigeria Police Force under the Police Act and Regulations, noting that it erodes public trust and undermines ongoing efforts to build stronger community relations.

CP Naziru Abdulmajid further directed that all operations must strictly comply with extant regulations, particularly the provisions of Force Order 237 on the use of force, emphasizing that officers must exercise restraint, professionalism, and respect for human dignity at all times.

The Commissioner of Police warned that any erring officer found culpable of rights violations or unprofessional conduct will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law and internal disciplinary procedures.

The CP encouraged members of the public to make use of the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and other official channels to report cases of misconduct, assuring that all complaints will be treated with utmost seriousness and confidentiality.

The Nigeria Police Force, Borno State Command, wishes to inform the general public that the 2026 Police Recruitment Written Examination for applicants seeking enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force as Police Constables (General Duty and Specialists) will be conducted from 28th to 30th April, 2026.

The examination will take place at Sir Kashim Ibrahim College of Education, Maiduguri.

Only candidates who successfully passed the physical and credentials screening are eligible to participate. The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, host all security chiefs alongside Borno State Government officials in a strategic meeting held at the Borno State Police Command Headquarters.

The meeting brought together the Commander of 7 Division, Director of the State Security Service, Comptroller of Customs, Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Commandant Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Commandant of the NDLEA and Federal Fire Service, as well as Borno State Government officials.

The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration, improving intelligence sharing, enhancing operational effectiveness, and adopting proactive measures to address emerging security challenges across the state.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of sustained synergy between security agencies and government institutions in maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and consolidating ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in Borno State.

The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has fixed 28-30 April 2026 for the written examination for applicants seeking enlistment as Police Constables (for both General Duty and Specialist applicants). The exercise will take place at designated centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Only candidates who successfully passed the physical and credentials screening are eligible. Qualified applicants are to log on to www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng from Friday 24 April 2026 to print their Examination Invitation Card, which indicates the specific date, time and venue of their test.

2025/2026 POLICE RECRUITMENT SCREENING: BORNO POLICE COMMAND HOSTS PSC COMMISSIONER I, ASSURES SEAMLESS EXERCISE

The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, today 13th April, 2026 received the Honourable Commissioner I (Police Service Commission), Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), during an assessment visit to the ongoing 2025/2026 Police Recruitment Screening Exercise.

The visit formed part of the Commission’s oversight function to ensure transparency, fairness, and adherence to established guidelines in the ongoing nationwide recruitment of 50,000 constables.

During the visit, Justice Galumje commended the Commissioner of Police and members of the screening committee for the level of organization, professionalism, and coordination displayed throughout the exercise. He expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the process and the collaboration among stakeholders.

The screening exercise is being conducted with active participation of representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Police Service Commission, Borno State Guidance and Counselling Board, Local Government Representatives, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other critical stakeholders.

In his remarks, CP Naziru Abdulmajid reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure a seamless, transparent, and hitch-free screening process. He assured that adequate security and logistics have been put in place to guarantee the safety and comfort of all applicants.

The Command wishes to inform members of the public, particularly shortlisted applicants, that the screening exercise is ongoing and will continue until 18th April, 2026. Candidates who may have missed their scheduled dates are advised to report to the screening centre before the closing date for consideration.

INTERAGENCY COLLABORATION: CP NAZIRU ABDULMAJID HOSTS NIGERIA CUSTOMS OFFICERS ON OPERATIONAL STUDY TOUR

The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, has hosted participants from the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College on a research/operational study tour to the Command Headquarters, Maiduguri.

1. The visiting team, comprising Superintendents of Customs, was led by the Team Leader, Assistant Comptroller T.D. Tule. During the visit, the delegation expressed appreciation to the Command for the warm reception and acknowledged the critical role of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining internal security and supporting interagency efforts in combating crime.

2. In line with the Commissioner of Police’s directive, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Jawi A. Mohammed, delivered a comprehensive lecture to the participants on the theme of interagency collaboration.

3. The lecture highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing, coordinated joint operations, and synergy among security agencies, particularly in addressing emerging security challenges and curbing border-related crimes such as smuggling, trafficking, and insurgency-linked activities.
