Congratulations to His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Securing the APC Gubernatorial Ticket and the Reaffirmation of Hon.Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, Mni as Running Mate.

On behalf of the Management and Staff of the Benue State Council on Climate Change, and in my personal capacity, I heartily congratulate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on his well-deserved emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Benue State Governorship Election.

Your emergence is not merely a political victory; it is a profound affirmation of the confidence reposed in your visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to good governance, and the remarkable developmental strides your administration has recorded across critical sectors of our dear state. It is a clear indication that genuine service, integrity, and purposeful leadership will always prevail over doubt, distractions, and opposition.

Your administration has continued to inspire hope among the people of Benue through impactful reforms, infrastructural development, improved security initiatives, investment in agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and institutional strengthening. These achievements have rightly earned you the trust and renewed confidence of both your party and the good people of Benue State.

I equally congratulate Your Excellency on your wise and strategic decision to retain Honourable Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, Mni as your running mate for the forthcoming election. This reaffirmation is a fitting recognition of steadfast loyalty, exceptional competence, unwavering dedication, and selfless service to the administration and the people of Benue State.

This retention has laid to rest the needless speculations, unfounded rumours, divisive narratives, and unhealthy political ambitions that had surrounded the choice of the deputy governorship candidate. It has once again demonstrated that loyalty, hard work, and commitment to a shared vision remain invaluable virtues in leadership and public service.

As Benue journeys towards 2027, I am confident that this formidable partnership will continue to provide the stability, unity, and purposeful leadership required to consolidate on the gains already recorded and usher our state into greater prosperity and sustainable development.

Benue Climate Change DG Advocates Greater Capacity Building and Climate finance for Sub-National Climate Action

The Director General of the Benue State Council on Climate Change Dr. Daniel Mailumo is participating in a five-day specialized capacity-building training on Climate Change Act Implementation and International Climate Negotiations, taking place from 27th to 31st July 2026 at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja.

The training is organized by the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) in collaboration with the International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development (ICEED), with support from the African Climate Foundation (ACF).

The programme, titled "Deepening the Capacity of Nigerian Lawyers to Effectively Support the Implementation of the Climate Change Act and Training to Support International Climate Negotiations," is designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of Nigerian legal practitioners and policymakers in advancing the effective implementation of Nigeria's Climate Change Act while enhancing the country's participation in international climate negotiations.

The intensive training brings together legal professionals and key stakeholders from across the country to explore critical issues, including climate governance, climate justice, carbon markets, climate finance, legal frameworks for climate action, and strategies for effective engagement in global climate negotiations.

During the interactive sessions, the Director General contributed to discussions by emphasizing the need to create more avenues for capacity building and improved access to climate finance for sub-national governments. He noted that strengthening institutional and human capacity, alongside mobilizing climate finance, is essential for implementing effective climate mitigation and adaptation strategies at the state level. He further stressed that empowering sub-national actors with the necessary knowledge and resources would accelerate climate resilience and sustainable development across Nigeria.

The participation of the Director General underscores the Benue State Council on Climate Change's commitment to building institutional capacity, strengthening climate governance, and ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of implementing climate policies that promote sustainable development, environmental resilience, and climate-smart initiatives.

The knowledge and expertise gained from the training are expected to further support Benue State's efforts in implementing the Climate Change Act, fostering strategic partnerships, and advancing evidence-based climate action for the benefit of present and future generations.

Flood Doesn't Start With Rain... It Starts With Us.

Flooding is not caused by rainfall alone. It begins when we block drainage channels with waste, build on waterways, cut down trees, and neglect our environment.

Every plastic bottle thrown into a gutter, every refuse heap dumped in a drainage, and every blocked water channel increases the risk of devastating floods.

As the rainy season continues, let's all play our part:
🌱 Dispose of waste properly.
🌱 Keep drains and waterways clean.
🌱 Plant and protect trees.
🌱 Support community efforts to maintain a healthy environment.

Preventing floods is a shared responsibility. Together, we can protect lives, homes, and livelihoods.

UBEC, SUBEB, Climate Change Council and UN-TER Launch Greening Clubs and Tree-Planting Campaign in Benue Schools

As part of activities marking the 2026 World Environment Day, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in collaboration with the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Benue State Council on Climate Change, and UN-TER, on June 3, 2026, flagged off the establishment of Greening Clubs and a tree-planting campaign in selected basic schools within Makurdi metropolis.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Adagba; the State Coordinator of UBEC, Mr. Idzi Baba Emmanuel, the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management; and the Director-General of the Benue State Council on Climate Change, Dr. Aondofa Daniel Mailumo, emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability and climate action.

Dr. Mailumo welcomed participants and highlighted the critical role children play in combating climate change. He noted that young people are key stakeholders in building a sustainable future and must be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to protect the environment.

The two-day programme commenced at RCM Primary School, Poor, Makurdi, and continued at NKST Primary School, Wadata, and LGEA Primary School, Wurukum, where Climate Change and Greening Clubs were formally established.

Participants were educated on the causes and effects of climate change and its negative impact on livelihoods and the environment. They were encouraged to become ambassadors of climate action by promoting environmentally friendly practices within their schools and communities.

The key messages delivered during the campaign included:

- Protect and preserve trees, which are essential sources of oxygen and environmental balance.
- Avoid indiscriminate tree felling.
- Refrain from burning bushes, plastics, and other waste materials, as these release harmful greenhouse gases and pollutants.
- Keep drainage channels free of refuse to prevent flooding and environmental degradation.
- Take collective action to reduce the impact of climate change.

As part of the programme, climate champions and patrons were selected to lead environmental advocacy efforts in their respective schools. At RCM Primary School, Poor, Miss Nguher Mbavoor emerged as the Climate Champion. At NKST Primary School, Wadata, Master Army Destiny emerged as Climate Champion, while Mr. Terfa Mbachirin was named Climate Patron.

The delegation of the greening clubs establishment was led by Mr. Stephen Ahile, Head of Projects and Programmes, Benue State Council on Climate Change.

The initiative underscores the commitment of the partnering organizations to promoting environmental consciousness among schoolchildren and fostering a culture of sustainability across Benue State.
