VOTE FOR OK AND NDC: A Choice for Financial Discipline, Prudent Management, and Effective Budget Ex*****on

By Comrade Abdullahi Ghali Basaf
5th August, 2026

As Nigerians prepare for another defining moment in our democratic journey, the choice before us should be guided by competence, prudent financial management, and a proven record of effective budget ex*****on. These are the qualities that inspire confidence in the OK Movement and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
One of the strongest examples of financial discipline in public service was demonstrated during the administration of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as Governor of Kano State. His government is widely recognized by supporters for prioritizing fiscal responsibility, prudent management of public funds, and investment in projects that delivered lasting value to the people.
During his second tenure (2011–2015), the administration adopted a financial management approach that placed development above wasteful government spending. Through stricter financial controls and cost-saving measures, resources were redirected from unnecessary recurrent expenditure to critical capital projects that transformed Kano State.

Rather than allowing salaries and overhead costs to consume most of the state's resources, the government allocated a significant proportion of its annual budgets to infrastructure and human capital development. In 2012, approximately 63% of the state's budget was devoted to capital expenditure, while in 2013 this increased to about 75%, reflecting a clear commitment to sustainable development through effective budget implementation.

The administration also pursued reforms that reportedly increased Kano State's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from about ₦400 million to nearly ₦2 billion monthly. This strengthened the state's financial independence and enabled it to finance strategic projects without excessive reliance on federal allocations.
The results of this prudent financial management were evident across the state. Kano witnessed the construction of major housing estates such as Kwankwasiyya City, Amana City, and Bandirawo City, alongside numerous road projects, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, water supply projects, and scholarship programmes for thousands of students within and outside Nigeria.

Similarly, Peter Obi's tenure as Governor of Anambra State is frequently cited by his supporters as an example of prudent financial management. His administration emphasized cost-conscious governance, increased investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and is widely reported to have left office without significant state debt while leaving substantial financial reserves and investments for the state. Supporters argue that his approach demonstrated that transparency, accountability, and careful management of public resources can produce sustainable development without excessive borrowing.

The experiences of Kwankwaso in Kano and Peter Obi in Anambra illustrate a governance philosophy that places public interest above personal interest, prioritizes value for money, and ensures that government resources are directed toward projects that improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
Fiscal discipline is not about spending less—it is about spending wisely. It means ensuring that every naira entrusted to government delivers measurable benefits through transparent budgeting, responsible ex*****on, and accountable leadership.

As we approach the 2027 general elections, Nigerians deserve leaders who understand that public resources are a sacred trust. Effective governance requires discipline, transparency, accountability, and a commitment to projects that improve the lives of citizens.

Vote for the OK Movement and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if you support a vision centered on prudent financial management, responsible budgeting, accountability, and sustainable development. Let performance, integrity, and visionary leadership shape Nigeria's future.
