Today, I joined His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima who represented the President and Commander-in-Chief at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, held at the Polo Field, Murtala Square, Kaduna.
This year’s NADCEL marks 162 years of distinguished service, sacrifice, and duty to the nation by the Nigerian Army. The theme, “Developing the Soldier First Concept: Imperative for the Nigerian Army’s Transformation Drive,” reflects the Nigerian Army’s strategic vision and enduring commitment to professionalism and operational effectiveness.
The strength of any fighting force lies in the quality, welfare, and morale of its personnel. The Nigerian Army’s renewed focus on the “Soldier First” principle is not only timely—it is essential. In today’s complex security environment, building a resilient, well-trained, and highly motivated force is non-negotiable.
As Minister of State for Defence, I commend the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his leadership and continued efforts in repositioning the Nigerian Army through doctrinal innovation, jointness, and adaptive capabilities. These are critical to addressing asymmetric threats and safeguarding our sovereignty.
I wish to assure the Armed Forces of Nigeria that the Ministry of Defence remains fully committed to providing the policy support, resources, and institutional backing necessary to strengthen our defence architecture and uphold the honour of our Armed Forces.
To all officers, men, and women of the Nigerian Army—past and present—I extend my deepest respect. Your discipline, courage, and dedication continue to inspire confidence in our nation’s ability to overcome its challenges and preserve its unity.
Nigeria is proud of you. History honours you.
