Niger State was created on the 3rd February, 1976 out of the then North-Western state during the regime of General Murtala Ramat Mohammed; the state formerly began to function on April 1st of that year, with eight local government councils (L G As) namely: Chanchaga, Rafi, Gbako, Etswan, Suleja, Mariga, Magama and Lavun. tween 1979 and 1983 during the second republic, when Mallam Muhammadu Awwal Ibrahim was the Executive Governor of the State, eighteen LGAs were created: Kuta, Paikoro, Chanchaga, Rafi, Gbako, Katcha, Lemu, Lapai, Agaie, Suleja, Mariga, Bangi, Magama, Auna, Lavun, Mokwa and Jima-Doko. But when the military came into power in 1984, it was reverted to the original eight LGA structure. However, Chanchaga was split into two-Minna Municipal council, with Minna as headquarters while Kuta remained the headquarters of Shiroro LGA, the former name of Chanchaga LGA. The LGAs in Niger State became Nineteen (19) in 1991 when President Ibrahim Babangida created Nine (9) States and additional LGAs in Nigeria. By 1996 when Late General Sani Abacha created six (6) additional states and 182 LGAs in the entire country, Niger State got additional six (6) LGAs, namely, Katcha, Munya, Mashegu, Edati, Tafa and Mariga bringing the total to 25 LGAs. Abdulkadir A. Kure responded to the clarion call of the people for the creation of additional local government areas. To this end, additional 17 new local government areas were created out of the existing ones; bringing the total number of local governments to 42. However, because this was not gazetted by the National Assembly as enshrined in the constitution, the new LGAs were dissolved and converted to Area Development Councils. Thus, the status-quo of 25 LGAs was maintained.

GOV. BAGO CELEBRATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MEMBER ABDULLAHI IDRIS GARBA ON HIS BIRTHDAY.

Niger State Governor Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago congratulates the House of Representatives Member representing Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Idris Garba, on his birthday.

The Farmer Governor describes the Federal Lawmaker as humble, committed, and generous.

He applauds the celebrant who is a fifth-time federal lawmaker for his countless contributions to nation-building.

The Farmer Governor also commends Idris Garba for implementing people-oriented projects that cut across basic infrastructure, human capital development, and several other youth and women intervention programmes for the people of his constituency.

He maintains that the efforts of the Federal lawmaker in making life better for his constituents are complementary to his administration and also in sync with the New Niger agenda.

FARMER BAGO GETS GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has bagged the "Governor of the Year" award by the Daily Times Nigeria newspaper.

The award was presented to him at the Daily Times centenary heroes award held in Abuja.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), some state governors, lawmakers, business moguls, and technocrats, among others, were also honoured with awards under various categories for their outstanding performances.

Speaking to newsmen after receiving the award, the Farmer Governor expressed delight over the award, describing it as an additional push for him to do more for the overall benefits of the people.

He appreciated the Daily Times Nigeria newspaper for recognising his efforts in agriculture, support to agribusinesses, infrastructure, and other sectors.

Earlier, the Chairman of Folio Media Group, owners of the Daily Times Nigeria, Fidelis Anosike, gave a brief on the newspaper and thanked appreciated the farmer Governor and other awardees for their contributions in service to humanity and their support to the organisation.

Some members of the state executive council, other top government officials, and well-wishers of the Farmer Governor also witnessed the event.

The event also featured a book unveiling by the SGF and a keynote address by Dr. Akinwumi Ayodele Adesina, former president of the African Development Bank, who was also an award recipient.

MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND NATIONAL ORIENTATION AND HIS ENTOURAGE ENDORSE PRESIDENT TINUBU AND GOVERNOR BAGO’S SECOND-TERM BID.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, and his entourage have endorsed the second-term bid of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago as well as the continued leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister endorsed them when he visited the farmer governor at the Government House, Minna.

Idris Malagi who acknowledged the significant strides of the farmer governor in transforming the State said, Bago deserves a second term in order to consolidate on his remarkable feat through his new Niger agenda.

He also harped on the need to support the return bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for him to continue with his renewed hope agenda which has been transforming the lives of all Nigerians.

NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT TO PARTNER RUSSIA ON GOLD RECOVERY AND MINING

Niger State government is has concluded arrangement to enter into partnership with investors from Russia for the establishment of a gold recovery and mining company in the State.

The executive governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago who received the Russian investors on a courtesy visit at the Government House Minna discussed on critical areas that will help in boosting the economy of the State.

The proposed partnership will be a joint venture between the Niger State Government, represented by Zuma Minerals, and a Russian mining company aimed at strengthening the State’s mining sector, attracting investment, creating jobs, and unlocking the economic potential of Niger State’s mineral resources.

The partnership underlines the determination of the farmer governor in revitalizing the mineral and mining sector for the overall growth and development of the State.

2026 APC CONSENSUS ASPIRANTS FORUM NIGER STATE ENDORSES PRESIDENT TINUBU AND GOVERNOR BAGO FOR SECOND TERM

The 2026 APC Consensus aspirants Forum, Niger State has endorsed president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the executive governor of Niger state farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago for a second term in Office.

The group led by its Chairman,
Abdul Abdulsalam while at the Government House Minna said the group is satisfied with the policies and programmes of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC as well as the exemplary leadership of the farmer governor and therefore deserves to continue to lead the State to greater heights.

He said, the Forum reaffirms its total support to the farmer governor and ensured him that members remain loyal to the APC and will continue to work for the progress of the party and vote all APC Candidates vying for political seats in the next generalelections .

Secretary of the Forum Haruna Gambo used the avenue to deny the rumours making the rounds that members of the forum are planning to leave the APC adding that, they remain loyal to the farmer governor and his ideals and do not intend to ditch the APC Party

In his response,the executive governor of Niger State, farmer Umaru Bago appreciated the group members for their unity and their continued support to the APC despite losing in the primary elections.

He commended them for their courage, sacrifice, patience and perseverance and reassured then that he will carry them along in his campaign team to ensure success.

Farner Bago reiterated that his administrarion remains committed to the new Niger agenda and have a Niger State that will be the pride of every Nigerlite.

The executive governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has paid condolence visit to the family of the Permanent Secretary Niger State Pension Board, Jonna Pada over the demise of her son, Paul Yisa Pada.

Farmer Bago who commiserated with the family of the deceased in Minna said, he was shocked and devastated when he heard about the demise of Paul.

He however urged the family to take it in good faith and remain resolute in prayers as death is a natural phenomenon which every soul must taste.

Farner Umaru Bago said, as faithfuls, they should believe in destiny even as he admitted that it is not always easy for parents when they lose a loved one.

The farmer governor prayed that God continues to comfort the family over the great loss and encouraged them to be courageous and remain strong in faith.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the father of the deceased, Mr. Patrick Pada appreciated the farmer governor for the kind gesture and for being there for the family in trying times.

FARMER GOVERNOR BAGO RECEIVES FORMER PDP STATE CHAIRMAN BARR. TANKO BEJI AND OTHER DECAMPEES INTO APC .

The executive governor of Niger State,farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has officially received the former PDP State Chairman Barr.Tanko Beji along four other former PDP bigwigs and their supporters who decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

The other bigwigs welcomed to the APC fold at the Government House Minna include former PDP Zonal Chairman and State auditor Mamman Labo Suleje, former PDP aspirant house of representatives for Suleja/Gurara/Tafa federal constituency Yakubu Idris, former PDP State youth leader, Zakari Kwasau and many other supporters.

Farmer Umaru Bago who expressed excitement with the decision of the former PDP Chairman Tanko Beji and other decampees to join the ruling APC said, their decision will further strengthen the APC's stronghold in the State because of their proven capacity and experience in politics

The farmer governor assures them that they will all be given equal opportunities in the party in their quest of supporting the renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ideals of APC as a whole.

He appreciated them for believing in the transformational ideas of the President and the new Niger agenda and requested that Barr. Tanko Beji be part of his team as the North-Central Zonal Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council and deliver the North Central for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Farmer Umaru Bago equally advised them to register themselves through the portal of the APC and enjoy equal benefits among other party faithfuls.

In his remarks, the former PDP Chairman, Barr.Tanko Bejin said they joined the All Progressives Congress APC because of the remarkable achievements of the farmer governor and his people oriented policies that have transformed the lives of the citizenry.

He said he is in the APC with an open mind and in the spirit of peace, expressing his desire to support and contribute to the good works of the present administration.

Barr. Beji pledged his full support to the party and assured that he is ready to work closely with other members to strengthen the party and contribute to the continued development of the State.

The State APC Chairman, Aminu Musa Bobi described the decamping of Barr. Beji and other top former PDP bigwigs in the State as a great victory for the State APC as their wealth of experience in politics will play a great role in the party's success at next year's polls.

He used the forum to call for everyone's support towards the reelection bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bago through rigorous campaigns.

Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of APC party membership cards to Barr. Beji and other decampees.

GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO LEADS GOVERNMENT DELEGATION TO THREE DAY FIDAU FOR LATE NPC CHAIRMAN, DR. AMINU YUSUF

The executive governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago led the State government delegation to the three day Fida'u for late Chairman, National Population Commission, Dr. Aminu Yusuf held at the Minna Central Mosque.

Chief Imam of Minna, Malam Isah Jibril who led the prayer session prayed that Allah in his infinite mercy forgives the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him entry into Aljannat Firdaus.

Malam Jibril also prayed for the family of the deceased and for Allah to comfort them over the loss.

The Imam also prayed for other departed souls as well as for Allah to continue to guide the farmer governor in steering the affairs of the State.

The farmer governor also led the delegation to the family residence of the deceased where he commiserated with them and offered words of encouragement.

He described the passing of late Dr. Aminu as destiny from Allah and urged them to remain steadfast in offering prayers for the repose of his soul.

The farmer governor equally paid a visit to one of the wives of the deceased who is recuperating at a hospital.

INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE TUNJI DISU VISITS FARMER GOVERNOR BAGO; REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO RESCUING BORGU KIDNAPPED VICTIMS

The Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force in rescuing all abducted victims in Borgu Local Government Area.

The IGP stated this when he paid a visit to the executive governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Government House Minna.

IGP Disu assured all Nigerlites and families of victims that the Police Force is working tirelessly to ensure that they bring back all their loved ones in the hands of the bandits even as he acknowledged that the police is working closely with other security agencies with series of meetings and intelligence sharing to achieve desired goals.

The Police boss also revealed that the Police is making significant progress and used the medium to appreciate the farmer governor for his cooperation and all the support he has been extending to the Niger State Police COMMAND.

In his response, the farmer governor apprecaited the IGP for the visit and for the prompt action taken to rescue the kidnapped victims.

Farmer governor Bago who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba also commended President Bola Tinubu for his timely and fatherly intervention through his directive to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for rescue operation.

He again used the medium to advocate the use of non-kinetic approach as a complimentary tool to the kinetic approach deployed as means of ending the incesant cases of banditry and other terrorist activities.

The farmer governor reiterated his administration's resolve to continue to support the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in stemming the tide of criminal activities.

Farmer Umaru Bago also commended the tireless efforts of the Niger State Police Commissioner, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman in addressing security challenges in the State especially his role in drastically reducing the menace of miscreants.
