Atiku Abubakar Blocks All Attempts To Prevent The Release Of President Bola Tinubu's Alleged Criminal Documents In The United States Of America; Declares To The FBI That The Lawful Portions Of The Information Can Be Released, Without Exposing Undercover Agents, Confidential Sources, Or Investigative Techniques; Says There Should Be No Reason Why The Documents Must Not Be Released To The People Of Nigeria To Scrutinise

There is no hiding place for President Bola Tinubu, as the African Democratic Congress, ADC, 2027 Presidential Candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, continues to mount pressure over the controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate's United States of America, USA, records; insisting that Nigerians deserve to know whatever information can legally be made public.

This is after the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, asked a USA Court for permission to keep some records connected to an old investigation involving President Tinubu, confidential. The FBI argued that releasing certain material could expose investigative techniques and potentially endanger individuals.

However, Atiku has rejected the suggestion that legitimate protections for Sources, Investigators and sensitive methods, should become a blanket reason for keeping potentially relevant information away from the Nigerian public.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku argued that the FBI could protect genuinely sensitive information, while still releasing records that can legally be disclosed.

The ADC Presidential Candidate's position has injected a fresh political dimension into the unfolding legal battle, coming as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 Presidential election.

The controversy centres on a Freedom of Information Act request, seeking for records from the early 1990s, including material relating to alleged investigations involving President Tinubu. The case was brought by American Researcher, Aaron Greenspan, who has sought access to the records from US Law Enforcement Agencies.

The US Court has given the FBI, Department of Justice, DOJ, Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, and President Tinubu, until August 28, 2026, to oppose the release of the records. The Court also allowed the FBI to submit certain information privately, for judicial review.

Atiku has maintained however, that he is not asking the FBI to expose Undercover Agents, Confidential Sources or Investigative Techniques. Rather, information that can lawfully be released should not remain hidden from Nigerians, merely because some portions of the wider material are sensitive.

He has therefore, turned the records dispute into a broader question of transparency and the public's right to information, concerning the person occupying Nigeria's Highest Political Office.

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has defended absence of its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar from National Peace Accord signing, saying it was deliberate protest against failure of peace process to address electoral violence.

National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said on Channels TV Sunrise Daily Friday that politicians sign accord every cycle yet killings and harassment still happen like in Osun without condemnation. He cited Senator Francis Fadahunsi's alleged incitement and President Tinubu's statement that "all is fair in politics" as setting narrative for Osun violence without rebuke from Peace Committee.

Abdullahi said ADC position is "our way of saying no" and call for committee to do more than ceremonial signing, demanding it holds leaders accountable for statements capable of inciting violence.

First phase of accord was signed Tuesday ahead of 2027 campaigns by several candidates including Peter Obi of Nigeria Democratic Party, while President Bola Tinubu and Atiku were absent. SGF George Akume represented Tinubu and INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan pledged neutrality urging marketplace of ideas, while Bishop Matthew Kukah urged elections that improve lives. Absence has drawn criticism from AAC's Omoyele Sowore and SDP's Adewole Adebayo.
