Ikire Killings: Osun Accord Demands Arrest and Prosecution of Irewole DPO, Bamidele Olatona

OSOGBO - 24/08/2027

The Accord, Osun state chapter, has vehemently condemned the utterly barbaric, unprofessional, and unprovoked shooting incident at the Naira and Kobo Garage in Ikire earlier today, which resulted in the tragic deaths of a commercial bus driver, Saheed Akinrole, and an innocent passenger.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Irewole Division, Mr. Bamidele Olatona, personally stormed the public garage and opened fire sporadically into a crowd of unarmed civilians.

There was no crisis or conflict at the said park. There was no take over bid by any group. The normal park operation was ongoing when the DPO launched the attacks.

Such reckless, bloodthirsty, and animalistic behavior from a senior law enforcement officer tasked with protecting lives is an absolute disgrace to the Nigeria Police Force and strongly suggests an officer who lacks the mental stability and emotional balance required to carry a firearm.

This lethal outrage is only the latest in a long, horrific pattern of partisan brutality and systemic failure that has defined Mr. Olatona’s tenure in Irewole.

The people of Ikire have not forgotten his shameful conduct during the pre-election and election periods, during which he functioned less as a public servant and more as an armed enforcement wing for political interests.

Despite the widespread violence and loss of life that plagued Ikire prior to the polls, Mr. Olatona consistently failed to make a single arrest of known perpetrators.

Instead, he openly harbored partisan thugs and provided official police escorts while they wrecked havoc and terrorized peaceful residents across our communities.

The continued presence of an unhinged, heavily armed officer operating with complete impunity poses an immediate and dangerous threat to public safety in Irewole Local Government.

Mr. Olatona's actions today have crossed every acceptable boundary of human decency and professional ethics, proving beyond doubt that he is entirely unfit to hold command or wear the uniform.

A police force meant to uphold justice cannot be left in the hands of an individual whose conduct reflects unchecked aggression, extreme bias, and a complete disregard for the sanctity of human life.

We hereby call on the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, and the Police Service Commission to take immediate action by ordering the prompt arrest, psychological evaluation, dismissal, and criminal prosecution of DPO Bamidele Olatona.

He must be investigated thoroughly and brought to book to face the full weight of the law for murder and abuse of office.

Let this serve as a clear, uncompromising signal that partisan, compromised, and violent officers will no longer be allowed to turn their weapons against the very citizens they are sworn to protect.

Accord Members who Stopped Ballot Snatching at Iree Arrested by Eluku - Accord Chairman

OSOGBO - 19/08/2026 -

A police officer popularly known as Eluku has arrested five Accord members at Iree for their roles at stopping ballot box sn**ching during last Saturday's election.

The police officer led his team last night to raid Accord members’ house at Iree, arresting and whisking them away to Osogbo.

Eyewitnesses reported that the arrested Accord members had stood their ground to stop APC thugs from sn**ching ballot boxes after ward counting was concluded.

The APC thugs backed by rogue elements from the police had arrived Iree, shooting sporadically in a bid to sn**ch ballot boxes.

Accord state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande called on the state police command to immediately release the arrested Accord members, calling their arrest a misnormer

“We expect the police to arrest the thugs who unleashed violence on the Iree people instead of Iree people who defended their votes from electoral bandits. Instead of arresting the thieves, the police are now arresting those who repelled the thieves.

“ The Iree community defended themselves against a combined team of thugs and rogue police who launched attacks. The police did not come to the people's aid. Yet, the police is now arresting the people.

“ This is inhuman and anti-people. The police command should release the arrested Accord members without delay”, the Accord Chairman stated.

Accord Says its Chairman Remains Maxwell Mgbudem

● Dismisses Fake Endorsement of AMBO by an Impersonator, Chris Imomulen

● Afffirm Adeleke as its Candidate

OSOGBO - 13/08/2026

Osun state chapter of Accord has dismissed as fraudulent and an act of desperation by the APC the purported endorsement of Osun APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji by one impersonator, Chris Imomulen purportedly pretending to be the National Chairman of Accord Party.

Members of the Accord as a political Party in Osun state and the public at large were highly embarrassed by the fraudulent charade involving top opposition leaders and we urge the general public to disregard and dismiss the endorsement as Governor Ademola Adekeke remains the official candidate of the Accord for the Saturday polls.

This move by the APC goes a long way to show how desperate and fraudulent the party and its national leadership are.

In the same manner, it is an indication of the fact the APC knows of its deep unpopularity, hence its descending so low to the level of impersonating the duly recognized National Chairman of Accord Party, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem who is officially listed and recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It would be recalled that the APC had, on several occasions and fora tried to cause division between the Accord Party leadership by raising and sponsoring a parallel National Chairman of their own at the expense of the duly known and recognized chairman of the party, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem

The public should take note that the Accord Party and its National Working Committee still recognizes Senator Ademola Adekeke as its only candidate for the Osun Governorship election.

It is therefore shameful that the APC because of its impending defeat and daredevil wish to attain power by all means could go the route of impersonating the National Chairman of another party at their mega rally in Osogbo which was beamed live on national television.

We are calling on democrats all over the nation and in particular Osun people not to be deceived by the fraudulent antics of AMBO, Osun APC and their Campaign Council.

Ademola Adekeke is and still remains the man of the people as ACCORD party has not endorsed any other candidate other than him.

State Chairman,

Accord Accuses Osun APC of Harbouring Election Results Hackers at Osogbo GMT Hotel

OSOGBO - 08 /08/2026

Osun chapter of Accord has accused Osun state APC of importing and harbouring election result hackers at the GMT Hotel, Osogbo, calling on security agencies to burst the illegal operations centers.

In a statement at Osogbo, the party alleged that credible reports indicated that the hackers were to hack INEC digital system and tamper with Osun election results.

The hackers were brought in from.Lagos and Abuja and they have set up an operational center at the GMT hotel. Their target is to compromise the INEC electronic system to impute fake election results into the INEC server.

The party called on the electoral commission to firm up its digital system and strengthen its ICT security in the face of cyber threats from the opposition APC.

We also call on security agencies to raid the GMT hotel and other illegal centers to stop the ongoing anti-democracy activities.

While again reaffirming its readiness to mobilise voters and win the August 15 polls, the Accord charged INEC to be on guard and review its digital plan, warning that hacking and manipulating next Saturday polls will be resisted by Osun people.

ACCORD PARTY HITS BACK AT THE POLICE, SAYS SELECTIVE POLICING IS NOT A WAY TO FIGHT CRIME

The Osun state chapter of the Accord has rejected the justification of the Osun State Nigeria Police Force Command for continuing to target leaders and members of the party for arrest and incarcerations, noting that the Police has abandoned its constitutional role in the state to pander to political interests.

Contrary to this impression that Dsp Abiodun Ojelabi, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun Police Command tried to portray in the response to the genuine concerns of The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) to the politicisation of policing in the state ahead of the governorship election, we maintain that the Police is not fighting any crime but trying to suppress the democratical rights of Accord leaders and members in the state.

If, indeed, the raid of the Police was to rid the state of criminals ahead of the election, we wonder why the homes of people like Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, and other elements with link to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is yet to be visited and cleaned of those who posed grave threats to Osun's security.

The truth, which is no longer oblivious to the Osun public is that, the Police Command has surrendered itself to political maneuvering, which obviously reflects its selective policing. Instead of picking up violent actors like Asiri Eniba and making him account for his several wrongs, including the alleged involvement in the brutal killing of Damilare Oloyede and Oyebamiji Taiwo in Boripe Local Government in 2025 and which he is now in court for, we are dismayed that the Police provide security cover for him to violently hijack motor parks in line with the APC objectives.

This is why we strongly disagree with DSP Ojelabi's assertion unless he is saying being a member of a political party other than the APC is a crime. While the Police target leaders and members of our party for raid, arrest, and incarcerations, those who are the assailants are left untouched, giving strong reason to believe that the the Osun Police Command has surrendered its authority to the APC.

In the instant Ikire case, we remind the public that Mr Taofeeq Akinyemi who was recently arrested by the Police and transferred to the SCID was shot by a notorious APC thug identified as Akinkunmi Alabi, popularly known as Ojuyobo, but he was lucky to survive as he was rushed to the hospital and treated. It is therefore worrisome that the assailant, who not only allegedly possessed fi****ms illegally but also tried to murder a fellow citizen will be spared but the victim of his violence will be picked up by the Police and whisked away for whatever reason.

This is not policing and we strongly condemn this partisan overtures by the Police to influence the August 15 governorship poll through intimidation and brutal use of force on Accord leaders and members. We maintain that the Police is a nation institution funded with taxpayers resources and should never become a tool of a political party, in this case the APC, to suppress democratic rights of the people and influence electoral outcome.

As a political party, we very much support any effort that will put criminals away so as to guarantee a peaceful and free poll, but we will not accept the subtle attempt by the Police to brand the membership of Accord as being criminal because that is exactly what the statement of DSP Ojelabi suggested. We ask the Police to dust its archives and go after known criminals, most of which are linked to the APC to show the public that it is indeed trying to rid the state of criminals and not making itself a tool of oppression against the Accord.

We remain committed to a peaceful Osun and ask the Police to honestly review its activities so far, purge itself of political considerations and work for the people paying for their operations by strictly undertaking fair policing. In that breath, as ask that the Osun Police Command to immediately begin the process of releasing all political prisoners, particularly Mr. Akinyemi who is still recuperating from bullet wounds inflicted on him by a political thugs with links to the APC candidate.

Pastor Victor Akande,
The Chairman, Osun Accord
