Security Matters: Governor Adeleke Continues Security Council Meetings

OSOGBO - 02/06/2026 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke today continues the hosting of security meetings which started two days ago to preempt likely security threats.

The various meetings started with internal security reviews followed by further consultations on aligning formal and informal security networks to strengthen security of lives and properties.

The governor had met representatives of local hunters, Oodua Peoples Congress, Agbekoyas and the state security outfit, the Amotekun service.

The interaction and brainstorming sessions build a coalition of informal security structures designed to complement the efforts of the formal security organisations.

As part of statewide intelligence mapping, the governor has also received the informal report about areas of threats, likely hot-spots and vulnerable border areas.

This afternoon, the formal state security council involving all service commanders commenced at the Governor's Office.

According to the Security Adviser to the Governor, Mr Samuel Ojo, the meeting firmed up pre-emptive security actions to stop any likely school kidnappings.

“The details of the security strategy are being kept secret. But on behalf of Mr Governor, I want to assure our people that Osun is safe and secure”, the security adviser posited.

Osun Pensioners (NUP) Endorse Governor Adeleke for Second Term

● We Will Defend Our Votes for Accord/Ademola Adeleke - Osun NLC

OSOGBO -02/06/2026 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke has received a resounding endorsement from the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Osun State Chapter, citing the administration’s remarkable commitment to pensioners’ welfare as the basis for their support ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.

Speaking during the endorsement ceremony, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Osun State Chapter, Alhaji (Chief) S. Ola Odefisayo, described the occasion as a historic and memorable moment for pensioners across the state, noting that Governor Adeleke’s administration has transformed the lives of retirees through people-centered policies and compassionate governance.

According to the NUP Chairman, pensioners remain enthusiastic about the free medical services provided through the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS), noting that the initiative has significantly improved access to healthcare for senior citizens. He also commended the governor for ensuring prompt payment of pensions and allowances as and when due.

Alhaji Odefisayo further praised Governor Adeleke for recognizing the dignity of pensioners and treating them with respect, adding that the administration’s achievements include the payment of half-salary arrears inherited from previous administrations, donation of a bus to pensioners, provision of borehole facilities through OHIS, implementation of a ₦25,000 minimum pension, prompt payment of contributory pension obligations, and approval of outstanding pension adjustments.

He emphasized that the endorsement was not an act of praise-singing but a sincere acknowledgment of good governance and responsible leadership.

The pensioners’ leader, while appreciating the administration’s accomplishments, also used the opportunity to remind the government of pending obligations, including the payment of outstanding minimum pension adjustments and gratuities.

He expressed confidence that Governor Adeleke would continue to address the remaining issues in line with his demonstrated commitment to pensioners’ welfare.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo, strongly defended the dignity of workers while responding to recent derogatory remarks allegedly made by a chieftain of the opposition APC, who claimed that tailors were better than civil servants.

Comrade Arapasopo noted that the statement was not only insulting to public servants but also failed to recognize that artisans, including tailors, are themselves members of the labour family. He stressed that workers across all sectors deserve respect and appreciation for their contributions to society and the economy.

The NLC Chairman declared that organized labour in Osun State would not only vote massively for Governor Adeleke on August 15 but would also defend their democratic choice through lawful and peaceful means. He described the governor’s administration as one that has consistently prioritized workers’ welfare through prompt salary payments, implementation of worker-friendly policies, and constructive engagement with labour unions.

Comrade Arapasopo further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to caution political actors in Osun State whom he described as anti-worker individuals, urging them to stop invoking the President’s name for political misrepresentations.

According to him, such actions misrepresent the values and principles associated with the office of the President and undermine democratic norms.

Responding to the endorsements, Governor Adeleke expressed profound gratitude to the pensioners and workers, noting that the support was both humbling and inspiring.

He noted that pensioners devoted the greater part of their lives to building the state and therefore deserve dignity, care, and justice in retirement.

The governor recalled that upon assuming office, addressing pensioners’ welfare became one of the administration’s top priorities. This commitment, he explained, informed the settlement of half-salary arrears, payment of the ₦25,000 monthly wage award for pensioners, and the inclusion of retirees in the Osun Health Insurance Scheme.

He emphasized that these interventions were not acts of generosity but acts of justice aimed at restoring confidence and improving the quality of life of senior citizens.

Governor Adeleke assured pensioners and workers that his administration would continue to pursue policies that improve living standards, expand healthcare access, create economic opportunities, and strengthen social protection.

While accepting the endorsement with humility, he urged members of the NUP and organized labour to translate their confidence into active participation at the polls on August 15, stating that continuity would consolidate the gains already recorded in pension administration, workers’ welfare, healthcare delivery, and overall governance in Osun State.

“I task our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken steps to secure our schools. The Ministry of Education and the relevant security agencies have worked out a security strategy that is being implemented”, the governor noted.

Group Life Assurance Policy: Governor Adeleke Disburses Millions of Naira for Public Servants’ Next of Kin

OSOGBO - 01/06/2026 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Amidst fiscal constraints, Governor Ademola Adeleke has today disbursed a total of Two Hundred and Four Million, Two Hundred and Seventy-five Thousand, two hundred and nine naira and eighty kobo (N204,275,209.80) to the next of kin of all staff who died in active service and whose documentation have been completed in the Pension Office.

The disbursement was made up of One Hundred and Twenty-Five Million, Six Hundred and Thirty-One Thousand, Eighty-Three Naira, Forty-Five Kobo ( #125,631,083.45) for the State level beneficiaries and Seventy-Eight Million, Six Hundred Fort-Four Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira, Thirty-Five Kobo ( #78,644,126.35) for Local Government level beneficiaries.

From 2023 to date, the administration had paid a total of Eight Hundred and Eighty-two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventeen Naira, Fifty Kobo (₦882,752,717.50) to a total of One Hundred and Eighty-Four (184) beneficiaries across the entire gamut of the public service.

Under the personal accident insurance scheme, the administration had approved and released a total of One Billion, Eight Hundred and Sixty-Six Million, Seven Hundred and Nineteen Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Three Naira, Fifteen Kobo (₦1,866,719,123.15) being the outstanding claims of the Five Hundred and Sixty-three (563) beneficiaries covering September 2013 to 1st of August 2023.

The sharing of cheques for the new beneficiaries was held today at Osogbo with the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina representing the state governor.

In the address of the governor presented by the Head of Service, Governor Adeleke reiterated that his commitment to workers and pensioners'welfare remain unshaken despite the financial challenges facing the state, adding that “what my predecessor failed to implement is what I am executing now.

“When we stated clearly in our 5 – point Action Plan, our desire to make the welfare of the workforce and the pensioners No. 1 priority, our detractors made jest of us, describing the pledge as an impossibility. Today, to the glory of God, we have made significant progress as a talk and do administration”, the governor noted.

He explained that the Group Life Assurance Policy, under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) 2008, Section 15, is designed to cater for death-in-service benefits for Osun State workforce, describing the refusal of the previous government to commit to its settlement as inhumane and uncharitable.

The governor faulted the previous administration for foisting and condoning irregularities in the payment of Premium to the Insurance Company for the settlement of claims to the beneficiaries.

To correct the anomalies, Governor Adeleke said his administration approved the engagement of VALANIS Insurance Brokers Ltd., as the lead Broker while Capital Express Assurance Plc was engaged as the Lead Insurance Underwriter in August 2023.

“Since then, my Administration had paid a total of Eight Hundred and Eighty-two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventeen Naira, Fifty Kobo (₦882,752,717.50) to a total of One Hundred and Eighty-Four (184) beneficiaries across the entire gamut of the public service.

“It is also heartwarming that the Insurance Company has added another package known as Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) to the Group Life Assurance Scheme for the State Workforce, which is a free package. Under this package, each officer of the workforce, no matter the Grade Level, is entitled to a sum of One Million (N1,000,000.00) Naira only, for the payment of Medical Expenses for all accidents resulting in bodily injuries.

“This new addition is no doubt a reflection of my commitment to the welfare of all staff in the Public Service. Three (3) of our insured workers had benefitted from this policy to the tune of millions naira.

“As an advocate of politics without bitterness and as one who is committed to the welfare of the entire workforce, dead or alive, I have approved and released a total of One Billion, Eight Hundred and Sixty-Six Million, Seven Hundred and Nineteen Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Three Naira, Fifteen Kobo (₦1,866,719,123.15) being the outstanding claims of the Five Hundred and Sixty-three (563) beneficiaries covering September 2013 to 1st of August 2023.

“This was what our predecessors failed to do thereby making life difficult for the beneficiaries.

“Despite our present financial challenges, we have continued to fulfil our electioneering campaign promises on staff welfare and funding of the pension industry.

“This morning, cheques of Two Hundred and Four Million, Two Hundred and Seventy-five Thousand, two hundred and nine naira and eighty kobo (N204,275,209.80) will be distributed to the beneficiaries. This made up of One Hundred and Twenty-Five Million, Six Hundred and Thirty-One Thousand, Eighty-Three Naira, Forty-Five Kobo ( #125,631,083.45) for the State level beneficiaries and Seventy-Eight Million, Six Hundred and Forty-Four Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira, Thirty-Five Kobo ( #78,644,126.35) for Local Government level beneficiaries”, the governor told the elated beneficiaries.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Alhaji M.K. Bello, a retired Director of Administration, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for approving the reorganisation and disbursement of the cheques, describing the Governor as God-sent.

According to him, “the holistic attention to workers’ Welfare by Governor Adeleke is unprecedented in the history of Osun governance”, adding “we are grateful”.

* Avoid movement during heavy downpours unless absolutely necessary.
* Stay away from flooded roads, bridges, and fast-moving water.
* Secure rooftops, signboards, trees, electric poles, and weak structures against strong winds.

* Immediately report flooding incidents, erosion threats, fallen trees, and drainage blockages to relevant authorities.

Parents, school authorities, transport operators, traders, and community leaders are strongly urged to prioritize safety and ensure full compliance with all environmental and emergency advisories.

Relevant government agencies and emergency response teams across the state have been placed on alert and directed to intensify monitoring and response efforts. However, residents must understand that prevention and personal responsibility remain critical in reducing avoidable disasters.
