As we build toward on 31 July, we shine a light on the extraordinary men and women who protect our planet’s most precious places.
Rangers are the guardians of biodiversity. They patrol protected areas, prevent poaching, combat wildlife crime, manage fires, monitor ecosystems, support communities, and stand on the front line of conservation every single day.
Their work is vital - but it is also dangerous. Rangers often operate in remote and challenging environments, facing threats from armed poachers, extreme weather, wildfires, dangerous wildlife, and difficult terrain. Many work with limited resources, yet continue to serve with courage and dedication.
Without rangers, the world would look very different. Wildlife populations would decline, habitats would be degraded, ecosystems would become more vulnerable, and future generations would lose irreplaceable natural heritage. Rangers are not only protecting animals and landscapes; they are safeguarding clean water, healthy ecosystems, climate resilience, and the balance of nature on which we all depend.
This World Ranger Day, we honour their bravery, recognise the risks they take, and celebrate the impact they make.
