Patani Local Government was created out of Bomadi Government Area in December, 1996. It is situated In the Niger Delta Geographical Zone of the [country, Patani is one of the few riverine Local Governments in Delta State and shares common boundaries with Isoko South, Ughelli North, Bomadi Local Government in Delta State and Sagbama Local Government in Bayelsa State. de up of sixteen towns and villages namely Patani the Headquarters of the Local Government, Abare, Aven, Toru-Koloware, Adobu, Odorubu, Uduophori, Bulu-Angiama, BuluApelebiri, Toru-Angiama, Aruke, Amatebe, Ogor, Koloware and Toru-Apelebiri Communities respectively. Most of the Communities in Patani Local Government Areas are situated along the banks of river Forcados and are accessible by water. The soil is mainly of clay and has a high water retention capacity for about eight months each year. Apart from Patani, Aven, Koloware, BuluAngiama, Odorubu, Abare Communities, othertowns and villages lack electricity and modern social amenities that could boost economic life of the citizens. The main occupation of the people include: fishing, subsistence farming, ogogoro (local gin) production, and palm oil production. CULTURE
The people of Patani Local Government Area are predominantly Christians and few Traditional worshippers. The Local Government is made up of mainly Izon speaking people while the people of Odorubu and Uduophori Communities are Urhobo speaking. INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY
Patani Local Government Area is an investment haven. A virgin territory waiting to be explored. Agro based industries can key into the riverine peculiarities of the council for mutually rewarding investment. Educationists can key into the sector as there are no Tertiary Institutions in the entire Local Government Area presently. On the issue of investment-opportunities, it is worthy of note that the Federal Ministry of works and Transport sometimes in the early 1990s carried out the shoreline walling/protection of Patani town. The job was executed by the Nigeria Dredging and Marine Company (NDMC) Warn. This project could pave way for investment opportunities, in the local Government if Government particularly at Federal level focuses attention on the Area. LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROJECTS
The management of Patani Local Government Council in its bid to positively impact governance on her people at the grassroots has executed landmark projects since 2007 to date. (Refer to the next page for some pictures of completed project) It is on record that one of the prevailing news items today is the issue of security and development of the Niger Delta region. Patani Local Government is in the core of this region and share in the challenges. However, citizens of Patani Local Government Area have chosen the path of peaceful dialogue in our firm commitment to improve the living standard of the people.
