Rivers Women Rally for Unity, Support Gov. Fubara's Political Direction, Commend women on skills development

Women, under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS), have renewed their call for unity, peace and a collective sense of purpose as the foundation for sustainable development in Rivers State.

The call was made during the group's monthly prayer meeting held on Thursday, July 30, at the Ecumenical Center, Port Harcourt where women across the 23 LGAs reaffirmed their commitment to praying for the peace, stability, and progress of Rivers State and Nigeria.

Addressing the gathering, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, urged the women to remain steadfast in prayer, stressing that their prayers of agreement have consistently contributed to averting violence and crises in the state.

She said the impact of the prayer meetings extends beyond promoting peace, noting that members have also experienced spiritual growth and divine blessings through their commitment to seeking God's intervention.

Amaopuorubo Toby Fulton further declared that as loyal supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the group would continue to identify with and support the political direction of the governor.

The women also reaffirmed the resolve of promoting their economic well-being through skills acquisition and trade enhancement programmes. They described the commencement of the skills acquisition initiative as a major step towards improving the livelihoods of women across the state and beyond.

Speaking on the theme, "Praise, Purpose, Pursuit and Productivity", Dr (Mrs) Queen Karibi Botoye said the women should not give up hope no matter the circumstance as there is hope at the end of every tunnel. According to her, "As mere mortals it may seem an end, but to God Almighty it is just a bend, and a bend is never an end, just as there is light at the end of the tunnel. She admonished the women to renew and keep their hopes alive.

Barr. (Mrs) Adata Bio-Briggs, emphasised that the group remains committed to equipping women with practical skills and opportunities that will foster economic prosperity, self-reliance, and sustainable development across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

She further commended the women for their participation in the skills acquisition programme and training that was held last week with over 780 participants across the 23 local government areas, and beyond.

Members expressed optimism that through unity, consistent prayers, and skills development, women will continue to play a leading role in promoting peace, strengthening families, and contributing meaningfully to the overall development of Rivers State.

Gov. Fubara Charges 12 New Permanent Secretaries on Excellence, Selfless Service

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has charged the 12 newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries to regard their appointments as a call to selfless service, urging them to provide purposeful leadership and reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency and improved service delivery.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, the governor said the appointments were intended to strengthen the administrative machinery of government and enhance the implementation of policies and programmes that will accelerate the development of Rivers State.

Fubara reminded the new Permanent Secretaries that they now occupy the highest career positions in the civil service and must justify the confidence reposed in them through professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment to public service. He described them as custodians of government policies whose actions would significantly influence the success of his administration.

"My charge to you is to do right to every man and woman, do right to Rivers State, and do right to the Federal Republic of Nigeria," the governor said. "At this particular point in time, it is my wish that your coming on board will help this administration achieve its goal—not a personal goal, but the goal of moving Rivers State forward."

He urged the officials to ensure that every decision they take is guided by fairness, patriotism and the overall interest of the people, stressing that effective governance depends largely on the commitment, competence and dedication of senior civil servants responsible for implementing government policies.

Fubara warned against complacency, poor supervision and bureaucratic inefficiency, saying ineffective leadership could slow down government programmes and deprive the people of the dividends of good governance. "Don't be at the head and make this administration suffer just like some of the ministries. I believe that your coming on board will bring changes and effectiveness to the system," he said.

The governor further stressed that their appointments should be seen as greater responsibilities rather than rewards, urging them to build enduring institutions that would continue to serve the state beyond the life of the present administration. "When we are done with our own, I believe your good works will help whoever is going to take over from us to continue the good work in our dear State," he added.

He also called on the new Permanent Secretaries to uphold transparency, accountability and discipline, while fostering cordial working relationships with political office holders and members of staff to promote teamwork and improve service delivery. Fubara expressed confidence that their wealth of experience would drive reforms and enhance the performance of the Rivers State Civil Service.

The governor congratulated the officials on their appointments and wished them success in the discharge of their duties. Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that the 50.15-kilometre Port Harcourt dual carriage Ring Road will be fully completed and delivered by October 2026, citing significant progress recorded on the project.

The governor also attributed the vision behind the landmark infrastructure to his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, describing him as the originator of the project.

Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, during an inspection tour of the project, shortly after President Bola Tinubu intervened to resolve the political rift between the governor and the FCT Minister

Speaking during the inspection, Gov. Fubara described the FCT minister, whom he fondly referred to as his “Oga,” as a man of “very big ambition,” noting that the project was conceived with the aim of improving the welfare of Rivers people.

“For me, this project is very important considering the person who conceived it, my Oga, the Honourable Minister. He had a very big ambition and believed that if this project is delivered on record time, Rivers people will be happy with my administration,” the governor said.

He added that regardless of political developments, he remained committed to ensuring that the vision behind the project is realised.

“Notwithstanding whatever is happening, it is my wish and responsibility to see that this vision is fulfilled. This explains the importance we attach to the project as a government and as a people,” he stated.

Governor Fubara recalled that the Ring Road was designed to be completed within 36 months, noting that the project timeline is steadily approaching its target.

He said the inspection was carried out to assess the quality and pace of work being executed by the contractor.

According to him, the inspection commenced from the Refinery Junction in Eleme, passing through Iriebe and parts of Obio/Akpor, and terminated at the river-crossing bridge, which links critical sections of the road.

“From what is visible to everyone, a lot has been achieved. From our discussions, the contractors have assured us that the project will be delivered by October,” he said.

The governor noted that with sustained funding and the necessary administrative push, the October completion target would be achieved, expressing confidence that his administration would fulfil its promise to the people of Rivers State.

The Ring Road project, which was flagged off in July 2023, spans 50.15 kilometres and includes five flyovers and a river-crossing bridge. It is designed to connect more than six local government areas of the state and ease traffic congestion within Port Harcourt and its environs.

I WON'T BE DISTRACTED, GOV. FUBARA ASSURES

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his resolve to remain steadfast in delivering development projects across the state, declaring that political distractions will not derail his administration’s commitment to the people.

The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation of major roads within the old Port Harcourt Township, including the Creek Road Market project.

Accompanied by Engineer Michel Issa of Setraco Nigeria Limited, Governor Fubara toured several completed and ongoing roadworks, inspecting rehabilitated streets around Moore House before concluding the exercise at the Creek Road Market.

Speaking on the market redevelopment, the governor described the project as central to the revival of the old Port Harcourt township, noting that the modernisation of the facility would restore its lost glory and improve commercial activities in the area.

He explained that the new market is designed to accommodate traders currently operating on the roads, a situation he said contributes to traffic congestion and the rapid deterioration of road infrastructure along Creek Road.

“What are we trying to do? You can see the difficulty in driving through Creek Road because we don’t have proper settlement for marketers,” Governor Fubara said. “If we fix this market, those trading on the streets will move inside.”

According to him, relocating traders into the market will make it easier to properly rehabilitate the roads and preserve their structural integrity, while also enhancing the aesthetics of the township.

On the road network, the governor disclosed that the rehabilitation works span from Borokiri through all major streets in the old township, stressing that the approach is holistic and aimed at delivering lasting infrastructure upgrade.

Reacting to the prevailing political atmosphere, Governor Fubara insisted that his priority remains governance and service delivery, not political pressures.

“I have promised our people that no matter the situation, we will not lose focus on governance,” he said. “They entrusted us with leadership, and the least we owe them is confidence, stability and the assurance that governance will continue strongly.”

LADY FUBARA COMMENDS RIVERS WOMEN FOR PREACHING PEACE, PROGRESS

Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, has commended the commitment, solidarity, and pivotal contributions of women to peace and development across Rivers State.

Lady Fubara gave the commendation at the second edition of Women Converge, a special programme organised by Rivers Women Unite for SIM, which held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt.

She noted that women in the state have continued to make tremendous positive impact through their prayers and collective efforts. Lady Fubara thanked Rivers women—particularly the organisers of the event—for their steadfast support for her husband, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging them to remain prayerful as “the prayers of women avail much in every situation.”

“Once again, let me use this occasion to thank Rivers women for their support—both in prayers and in solidarity with me and my family. You have been wonderful. I cannot personally reward all that you do, but God in heaven, who sees in secret, will surely reward you openly,” she said.

She described the gathering as another milestone in the ongoing effort to shape society for good and to strengthen peace and development in Rivers State and Nigeria at large.

Lady Fubara encouraged women to remain steadfast in prayer, stressing that “God is ever ready to answer,” and emphasised the need for unity and continuous collaborative effort to advance society. She added that any endeavour rooted in faith and trust in God is bound to succeed.

The Rivers First Lady described the theme of the event, the Woman in an Evolving World, as timely and reflective of the strategies women must adopt to navigate today’s rapidly changing global realities. She noted that despite the complexities of managing homes in the face of economic challenges, women have consistently demonstrated resilience and strength.

“This Converge underscores the resilience of our women to succeed, no matter the odds—especially with absolute faith in God and determination for greater accomplishments,” she said.

“Whether in industry, business, agriculture, public service, or even politics, women have continued to show strong determination to adapt and achieve great feats. Our natural disposition notwithstanding, our focus has always been to reach for the skies. As Rivers women, we have always been pacesetters.”

In their goodwill messages, several notable Rivers women expressed optimism about the prospects for sustained peace and development in the state, and reaffirmed their support for the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
