AN INVITATION TO CELEBRATE A TRUE SON OF THE NIGER DELTA — HON. COMR TAMUNO KPOKPO

Great men are not known by titles, but by the footprints they leave in the hearts of their people. Leadership is not measured by the seat one occupies, but by the sacrifices one makes for truth, progress and humanity. In the history of Ijaw struggle in Eastern Zone, youth mobilization and civic courage, the name Hon. Comr Tamuno Kpokpo stands bold, distinguished and unwavering.

As Immediate Past Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eastern Zone, Hon. Kpokpo did more than speak, he stood firm when it mattered. He represented the Ijaw Nation in IYC Eastern Zone with dignity, courage and unquestionable loyalty. In times when many voices trembled, his remained steady. In moments when truth became expensive, he paid the price. And when the River State Government needed defenders, he stood as a shield, not for reward, but for conviction. He spoke when silence would have been more comfortable. He stood when sitting would have been safer. He put the collective good above personal comfort. Such leadership is rare. Such courage is remembered. Such service deserves honour.

In recognition of his undeniable impact and his unwavering commitment to justice, development, youth empowerment and civic responsibility, the public is hereby invited to witness and celebrate a three-fold honour in his life: the Conferment of an Honorary Doctorate Degree, the Birthday Celebration of a Distinguished Son of Rivers State, and a Special Thanksgiving to God Almighty.

We humbly extend this invitation to all Traditional rulers and community heads, Government leaders and political stakeholders, Ijaw Youth Council (past and present), Niger Delta activists and development advocates, Religious and cultural institutions, Youth organizations, women groups, students and the general public.

In this same spirit of love the public is warmly invited to join in honouring him on Sunday, 14th December 2025, beginning with a Thanksgiving Service at 10:00AM at Dynamic Praise & Restoration Ministries, #10 Governors Road, Port Harcourt, followed by a grand reception at 2:00PM at Autograph, Abacha Road, Port Harcourt.

Let us gather as one body and one voice to celebrate a man who carried the burden of leadership with humility and valour.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE IJAW NATIONAL CONGRESS (INC) ON THE RECENT JUDGMENT IN THE CASE OF MR. NNAMDI KANU

IJAW HOUSE, YENAGOA, BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIA

The Ijaw National Congress (INC), the apex socio-cultural organization of the Ijaw people worldwide, has watched with keen interest the developments surrounding the recent life sentence passed on Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

While we acknowledge the authority of the Nigerian judiciary and its right to adjudicate on matters before it, we are deeply concerned about the wider implications of this judgment.

The INC, under my leadership, has consistently advocated for the strict adherence to the rule of law, constructive dialogue, and the pursuit of political solutions to address the deep-seated grievances that threaten our national fabric.

In light of this, the INC hereby states as follows:

1. A Call for Calm and Non-Violence: We strongly urge the people of the South-East and all Nigerians to remain calm and law-abiding in the wake of this judgment. We must not allow this moment to be exploited by those who would lead us down a path of destruction and further bloodshed. The challenges we face require wisdom and intellectual engagement, not a descent into anarchy.

2. The Imperative of a Political Solution: The issues that gave rise to the agitations led by Mr. Kanu are fundamentally political in nature. They are rooted in long-standing feelings of marginalization, inequity, and a failure of national integration. A judicial ruling, no matter how definitive, cannot by itself extinguish these underlying causes. We therefore call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately explore and deploy a political solution to this matter. True and lasting peace is achieved not by silencing voices, but by addressing the legitimate concerns they raise.

3. A Test of Our Democracy and Federalism: This moment presents a critical test for our democracy. A nation that thrives on the principles of justice and equity must be cautious in the application of laws that can be perceived as punitive rather than corrective. We remind the government that the strength of our federation lies in its ability to accommodate diverse opinions and address grievances through dialogue and inclusive governance.

The Ijaw people, having ourselves been at the receiving end of a state structure that often disregards the principles of true federalism, empathize with any group that feels alienated and marginalized. We stand for a Nigeria where justice and fairness are not mere slogans but the guiding principles of statecraft.

We conclude by reiterating our steadfast commitment to a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria, but one that is built on the foundations of justice, equity, and respect for all constituent nationalities.

Signed:
Professor Benjamin Okaba
President, Ijaw National Congress (INC) Global

GOV. FUBARA SAYS EDUCATION REMAINS PRIORITY IN 2026 BUDGET

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has restated that amidst glaring challenges, his administration has remained committed and focused on prioritizing education infrastructure in the State 2026 budget.

Governor Fubara disclosed this on Monday, December 1, 2025 while addressing the 123rd and 124th combined quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Council Secretariat.

The governor who commended the traditional rulers for their support and effort in promoting peace and development in Rivers State, urged them to live up to their responsibilities as custodians of peace by being alert and more vigilant in their domains to tackle the menace of insecurity especially in boundary communities.

He urged the traditional rulers to work with local government chairmen and security agencies to safeguard lives and property in their areas.

" I say thank you again for your support, for understanding that your role is fatherly, and one of the reasons you were selected to be head is to bridge the gap in terms of crisis, and to play fatherly role when called upon. Thank you for ensuring that peace reign in Rivers State."

The Governor reassured that the key vision of his administration is to ensure safety of lives and property, which has led to economic breakthrough as investment confidence is restored and activated in the state, paving the way for investors to do business in the state.

" Our vision is to ensure that Rivers State is safe, our vision includes the provision of good health care services, which we are doing, the records are there. The people from the south east senatorial district are witnessing what is happening in the Zonal Hospital in Bori. I'm sure that before the end of this year, the Omoku and Ahoada Zonal Hospitals will be commissioned, while Degema is 80% completed, we're not just talking, we're acting"

Governor Fubara also dismissed speculations in the media over the issue of 10,000 jobs, which the peddlers claimed were attached to the 2025 budget.

The Governor urged the public to jettison the false information noting that employment will be carried out in the state based on needs and not based on political considerations.

He explained that the 2026 budget will make provision for job creation and the refurbishment of schools in the state which are in deplorable conditions, having given due consideration to roads and the health sector.
