Fathers have heavy responsibilities and here are just few outline of the things a father should be.
1. A Father Is a Teacher of God’s Ways
Fathers are commanded to teach their children the Word of God diligently.
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 – “And these words, thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…”
Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go…”
A father provides spiritual direction and foundation.
2. A Father Provides Leadership and Guidance
A father is the head of the family and gives godly direction.
Ephesians 6:4 – Fathers are instructed to bring children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Joshua 24:15
A father sets the spiritual atmosphere of the home.
3. A Father Is a Provider
Provision is a biblical responsibility of a father.
1 Timothy 5:8 – If any provide not for his own… he has denied the faith.
A father ensures the physical and material needs of the family are met.
4. A Father Represents Discipline and Correction
Correction is a sign of love, not hatred.
Hebrews 12:7 – God deals with you as sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
A father shapes character through loving discipline.
5. A Father Is a Covering and Protector
Fathers provide emotional, spiritual, and physical covering.
Psalm 103:13 – “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.”
A father reflects God's compassion and protection.
6. A Father Leaves a Legacy and Blessing
A father passes down inheritance and spiritual blessings.
Proverbs 13:22 – A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children.
A father’s words and actions affect generations.
7. A Father Reflects the Image of God
Earthly fathers reflect the Fatherhood of God.
Matthew 6:9 – “Our Father which art in heaven
James 1:17 – The Father of lights
Fatherhood is a divine institution established by God.
