The National Association of University Students (NAUS) is the highest decision-making body for students studying in institutions of higher learning from the university cadre, boasting over twenty (20) million members both in Nigeria and the Diaspora. Our organization is fully committed to mainstreaming students and young leaders in governance at all levels, with a core interest in protecting the dignity and integrity of students and uniting them for academic excellence.
NAUS maintains an operational working relationship with prominent organizations such as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the International Union of Students (IUS), the All Africa Student Union (AASU), the West African Student Union (WASU), the European Student Union (ESU), and other international student organizations. The activities of NAUS are conducted within the framework of its constitution, which includes advocating for quality education in all Nigerian universities, collaborating with other organizations for socio-economic development in Nigeria, and constructively agitating for the welfare of Nigerian university students at all times.
The core objectives of NAUS include:
1. To preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which guarantees citizens the freedom of movement, speech, and association.
2. To promote and protect the fundamental human rights of Nigerian university students.
3. To create a mutual relationship between students and school authorities.
4. To promote friendly relationships with other student bodies whose aims and objectives align with those of the association.
5. To promote unity, patriotism, and the spirit of cooperation amongst Nigerian university students.
Our motto is JUSTICE, PEACE, AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.
NAUS remains the umbrella body for all university students, with the following primary concerns:
- Striving for gender equity and student development.
- Defending the democratization of education in Nigeria.
- Defending Nigerian university students' freedom of thought, religion, expression, action, association, and movement, as well as the right to life and means of livelihood.
- Defending the right of all persons to education.
