WASH INVESTMENT PLAN FOR RURAL COMPONENT IN ABIA STATE
Participants at a two-day Stakeholders Validation And Local Investment Plan, LIP, Workshop for Abia State, Organized by The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, in collaboration with Ministry of Power and Public Utilities and Teamwork Global Associates in Umuahia has been charged to make inputs that will lead to the establishment of comprehensive Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Hygiene Investment Plan of the Federal Government.
Speaking while declaring the Workshop Open, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr Ikechukwu Monday, said that tAbia State Government is committed to transforming Water Sanitation and Hygiene through strategic partnership, rehabilitation of Moribund Water Schemes, modernization, networking, sustainable development and long-term Infrastructure Planning.
Engr Monday who spoke through the Director of Administration of the Ministry, Mrs. Nwaomiko Udo-Nwokocha, disclosed that the State Government is leveraging on Water as the foundation of public health to ensure households and Communities enjoy uninterrupted access to safe and potable water supply, sanitation and hygiene facility across the State.
In his Remarks, the General Manager Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, Mr. Uzo Kalu, said that in March this year, the Ministry of Power and Public Utilities through Consultants from Team Global Associates, sent Enumerators to Communities across the Seventeen Local Government Areas of the State to do a thorough need assessment of the level of water supply, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities, adding that the essence of the workshop was to evaluate the Documents and Information on
WASH Progamme presented, do necessary corrections and amendment for onward implementation of the program in the state..
Contributing, the WASH Expert Mr. Ishaku Ziyok, represented by the Team Lead, Teamwork Global Associates, Professor Gbamidele Igboro, said that the two day Workshop will enable the team and Stakeholders in WASH have a critical look at level of work done and Information of Water Supply System, Sanitation and Hygiene Facilities submitted by the Enumerators.
Responding, the Mayor Of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Eleanya Kalu and His Bende Local Government Area Counterpart, Deacon Bassey Uwabunkeonye, disclosed that the findings from Teamwork Global Associates and inputs of Stakeholders in WASH will go a long way in complementing the efforts and vision of the Governor, Dr Alex Otti in the Water and Sanitation Hygiene Program in the State.
The Workshop was well attended by Mayor's, wae team from 17 LGAs , Staff of Ministry of Power and Public Utilities, Abia Water and Sewage Corporation and RUWASSA.
