The Open Forum is an opportunity to share knowledge and experience, exchange views on complex issues, while respecting each other’s opinion. Attendance is by invitation. ed on particular problems identified in the wider area of agriculture, technological innovation, food security and poverty reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa. OFAB meetings are a good source of information for all, especially the media. Facilitation of media briefing sessions by the speakers form part and parcel of the meetings, and scheduled speakers are encouraged to prepare for media discussions through provision of newsworthy information and participation in media interviews.

Efficient delivery systems are urgently needed for genome editing in monocot plants. Here, this study develops a system of virus-induced genome editing in tillers (ViGET) to achieve heritable editing in wheat bypassing transgene and tissue culture.

This isn’t dystopian fiction—it’s a likely future if we turn away from the technologies that misinformation campaigns routinely demonize. While people readily fear ingredients in conventional foods after seeing alarming social media posts, they rarely visualize what abandoning modern agricultural practices would actually mean.
