Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun!

It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that the Federal Government of Nigeria received the news of the passing of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. President Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.

President Buhari was a distinguished statesman, patriot, and a gentleman soldier who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication. His stewardship as Military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985 and as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023 left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

His historic victory in the 2015 general election underscored his enduring commitment to Nigeria’s democratic progress.

Known for his integrity, discipline, and resolute anti-corruption stance, President Buhari championed policies aimed at fostering national unity, social investment, improving infrastructure, and addressing security challenges.

On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late former President, particularly his wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and his children. We also commiserate with the Government and people of Katsina State, where President Buhari was born, and indeed, all Nigerians.

President Tinubu has ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast for seven days, from July 13 to July 20, 2025, as a mark of respect for the departed leader.

The Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, are in London to accompany the body of the former President back to Nigeria for burial, as directed by Mr President.

We call on all Nigerians to honour the memory of this great leader by reflecting on his values of discipline, integrity, and selfless service. May his soul rest in peace, and may Almighty Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.

With private investments like this, which Nigeria Government under President Tinubu is committed to supporting, we are well on our way to ending the importation of tilapia fish (a Nigerian staple), creating jobs, conserving foreign exchange, and making healthy home-grown food available.

Nigeria is open for business and investment. This is not just talk, as a Government we are doing everything, under the leadership of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to make it real.

My visit this week to the Hydropolis Free Trade Zone in Niger State left me very impressed and pleased.

I want to encourage investors to watch this video, and proceed to check out the Zone and be a part of it!

I received a delegation from the Nigerian Guild of Editors, led by the Deputy President, Dr. Sebastian Abu. The visit was to formally present to me the report of the Guild’s Law Reform Committee.

The report highlights various outdated Nigerian laws that require review or removal to guarantee a freer and more enabling environment for media practice in the country.

I thanked them for the work done in producing the Law Reform Report. We will set up a committee within Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Nigeria to study the report thoroughly, and I will also engage with the Hon. Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation on the way forward.

In my remarks I also urged the media to exercise press freedom with a strong sense of responsibility and patriotism, with a view to promoting peace, unity, and national stability in the discharge of their duties.

As an administration we remain unwavering in our commitment to press freedom and freedom of expression—the cornerstone of our nation’s democracy.

The visit also afforded me the opportunity to congratulate the newly-elected executives of the Guild, and to assure them of my commitment to fostering closer collaboration.

Yesterday I joined my colleague the Hon. Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh-JOE and other senior Nigeria Government officials on an inspection visit to two businesses in Niger State:

1. A Tilapia Fish Farm operated by Kainji Aquaculture Resources Limited in New Bussa

2. The Hydropolis Free Trade Zone in Amfani, Magama Local Government Area

Kainji Aquaculture deserves commendation for investing in the hatching and rearing of Tilapia—one of Nigeria’s most consumed fish varieties—with the goal of reducing and ultimately bringing an end to importation.

Managing Director, Mr. Sa’adu Baloni, informed us that current production stands at 1,000 metric tonnes, with plans to double this to 2,000 metric tonnes by the end of the year, and to scale up to 5,000 metric tonnes within four years.

I was also very impressed with what I saw at the Hydropolis Free Trade Zone, the scope and ambition of the project. The Managing Director of the Hydropolis Free Trade Zone, Dr. Abdulmalik Ndagi, told us that about ₦30 billion has already been invested in the Zone.

They're developing power substations, lake-based recreational facilities, a golf course, polo field, racetrack, airport, train station, university, world-class hospitals, and many more—with the goal of attracting industrial, residential, and commercial clientele.

I urge both local and foreign investors to visit the Zone and to take advantage of the business and investment infrastructure and ecosystem being developed there.

I used the opportunity of these visits to reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with State governments and the private sector to scale up investments in agriculture and achieve self-sufficiency in food production, while also creating jobs, transforming local communities, and saving foreign exchange.

The President's commitment to Nigeria's food security is unwavering; and he has laid a solid foundation by establishing the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, as well as the Ministry of Livestock Development; among other initiatives.

No Distractions: President Tinubu Staying the Course on Reform Agenda

8 July 2025, Abuja—Amid ongoing political discourse and increasing media speculation regarding the 2027 elections, it is necessary to reaffirm that the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains firmly committed to its core mandate: delivering meaningful reforms and real economic growth for the Nigerian people.

Even as we affirm the right of all Nigerians to freely exercise their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of association and of speech, it is also important to underscore that President Tinubu’s administration will not be sidetracked by politicking or political distractions.

The clamour in the media about the emergence of a new political ‘coalition’ is understandable, but Nigerians entrusted President Tinubu with a bold and transformative mandate, anchored in the Renewed Hope agenda.

In just two years, this vision has already begun yielding tangible results. Crude oil theft has plummeted, investor confidence in the oil and gas sector is rebounding, inflation is easing, the Naira is stabilizing, security challenges are being confronted head-on, and millions of Nigerians—households, students, artisans, small business owners—are benefitting from initiatives such as student loans, access to consumer credit, CNG vehicle conversions, and improved government services and infrastructure.

Two weeks ago, the President signed four groundbreaking tax reform bills into law, marking one of the most ambitious fiscal overhauls in Nigeria’s history. Set to be implemented from 2026, these reforms are expected to significantly boost prosperity for households and businesses nationwide.

Just before then, the President commissioned the single largest mechanisation drive ever undertaken in Nigeria’s history—marking the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme. This is just one of several high-impact agricultural mechanisation programs being undertaken to guarantee food security.

Not surprisingly, emerging coalitions and opposition political groupings do not want a sustained focus on the progress Nigeria is making. The administration however refuses to be drawn into distractions engineered by those who would prefer stagnation over reform.

The Tinubu administration remains undeterred, focused, and committed to building a more prosperous Nigeria for all.
