My 11 year old daughter went missing from School. It'd been three days and no one could trace even her footprints.
I never knew Heritage College to be this careless. How could a child who was entrusted to them have disappeared without a trace? They had better found my only child in 96 hours or face the music. I'd been trying to wear my best behavior from the very first day Linda went missing.
The so-called school Management had pleaded with me to not get the Police involved. So, it was okay to protect the school while Linda was missing?
For days, no food had paid mouth a visit. Every minute of the days that went by, I was occupied with the hope that she was going to be found. Life without her was useless! She was all that I had. She was all that kept me going after the severe tortures I'd had from life over the years. Her mother left us for a rich man when shes was just five. For six solid years, I'd been playing both the father and mother figure. My hustle had to be quadrupled just so I could give her a better life. So she could never regret having just me in her innocent life.
When wealth and luxury finally came my way, I decided that she was going to get the best in life, starting from food to Education and here was I, entangled in this web of misery.
The Sun rose on the fourth day without my knowledge. I had sat up all night, lost in my hurtful thoughts. Just as the early birds kept reminding me it was a new day, I heaved a sigh then moved my hand across the bed and took my phone.
“Hello, is this the Police?” I croaked over the phone. A metallic voice barked in response. I prayed my plight to him...
“Please, put yourself together and get over to the Station. Do you mind?” the voice said.
A whistled out a hot air before telling him I was coming over.
“Good.” the voice said then hung up.
I just couldn't take a any longer. In less than 1,800 seconds, the Police and I stormed the School. One inspector Akin was on the case. He had already assigned to two of men to go dig up all information about my enstranged wife. That included her current address and movements.
Akin had every conviction that she had a hand in this owing to get exclusive report I'd fed him with.
The School Director, Dr Benz looked at me with total disappointment when the Police swam in with me.
“Don’t blame me. It's been three days past!” I looked away from him. The School activities were already disrupted. Akin already cornered the Director for questioning.
Linda's close friends and classmates were all interrogated in turns. Even the School Security weren't left out. Her class form master too!
From the reports everyone gave, Akin was moved to intensify the search within the school premises. If this didn't yield any helpful result, then it was high time the Public got a notice!
After about an hour's combing, Akin was called over to the old workshop by one of his men. I ran after them. The junior officer led us to an open space in the workshop. It wasn't floored. Just an ordinary Earth.
However, there were shoeprints suggesting that a child and an adult had been to the place. The child's prints were that of a young girl where as the bigger shoe prints belonged to a man.
From a close approach, Inspector Akin hinted that the man probably had more weight in his left leg as the print was deeper at one end of his shoe sole. He knelt on one of his knees with one of his hands over the raised knee.
“What is Linda’s shoe size?” Akin lifted his great face.
“34!” I answered almost in slumber.
“Such a big girl” he scoffed as he further observed the smaller shoe prints. Just then, one of his men returned to report that there were no other shoe prints around the workshop.
“Of course, there should be none since it has rained lately. We're only able to find these ones because the ground here has a roof over it. It's only damp!” Akin heightened and gave him the officer a friendly pat on the shoulder.
“However, judging the direction of the prints, they must've headed outside. I have a hunch that these prints belong to your daughter, Mr James.” He turned to me.
“Sir!” another junior officer ran in, “Come take a look at this!!”
“Mr James, I suggest you stop following us around for the moment at least. You did to take a break already” he patted my shoulder as he went out with his men. I stood motionless, not sure if I could listen to him or not.
As they were taking a lot of time, I carefully followed the direction they had taken. I saw with my own eyes, a body in uniform being unearthed.
“Linda! Lindaaaaa!!!” I ran toward them.
