Our General Manager, Afolabi Solebo Esq delivered his address on "Solutions to fair food prices" at the joint Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Consumer international (CI) multi stakeholders Workshop.

He addressed the key challenges and major critical consequences of unfair trade practice as unfair food prices which occur throughout the food supply chains as a result of disruption to food chains, lack of competition in the over concentrated food systems, and failed strict capital control practice.

He presented as part of the solutions to achieve fair food prices to include, reduction in reliance on imported foods to help ease the sufferings of consumers, Stabilizing international trade, closer collaboration between Government and consumer groups and building true and effective response to the issue of unfair food pricing through genuine inclusion of consumer voices.

LASCOPA CHARGES INSURANCE INDUSTRY TO OFFER BETTER VALUE TO POLICY HOLDERS .....Receives award in recognition for its contribution to the success of the Y2023 industry parley 2.0

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has charged key players in the insurance industry on the need to offer better value to policy holders in order to earn more public trust.

General Manager, Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Afolabi Solebo stated this as one of the guest speakers at Y2023 insurance industry parley 2.0 with the Theme: Financial inclusion and increase in insurance density in Nigeria, organised by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), held at the Oriental Hotel Victoria island on Tuesday.

Speaking at the parley Solebo averred that insurance providers should make it a top priority to start offering more consumer education and better value to policy holders adding that clients will buy more insurance thus making the industry grow more significantly.
His words: “The current economy does not promote savings. Where there is no savings there cannot be financial investments which also guarantees a viable insurance industry. These variables include foreign exchange reserves, Government debt & deficits, inflation, interest rates and exchange rates which have all suffered in recent years.

These variables undoubtedly create liquidity problems which might deter insurers to pay claims and customers’ willingness to enter into any insurance policy.”
He emphasized the need and importance for major investment in consumer education with a shift to products that meets the demand of potential micro insurance clients, and goods servicing to awake and keep Consumers interest .

While commending some insurance companies for the prompt settlement of policyholders, Solebo disclosed that LASCOPA its part as a regulator been able to recover the sum of #16, 356, 416 (Sixteen Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-Six Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixteen Naira for petitioners from insurance companies.

In attendance at the parley are the President/Chairman of Council Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mr. Edwin Igbiti; Managing Director, Old Mutual Nigeria Life Assurance, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin; Managing Director Enterprise Life Nigeria, Mrs. Funmilayo Omo; Commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission, Mr. Sunday Thomas; C.E.O Axa Mansard Insurance Plc, Mr. Kunle Ahmed; Head, Department of Insurance Lagos State University, Dr. Olufemi Abass and Head of strategy and project management, Sanlam General Insurance limited, Mr. Witness Godwin-Usoro amongst other stakeholders.

Femi Wahab took to his Facebook today Monday, 10th of July 2023 to testify, also thanked Mr. Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Who intervened and mediated in respect of ink cartridges he purchased from Grandsquare supermarket which turned out to be defective.

The latter was compelled to refund back the money used for the purchase since the complainant did not get value for his money or satisfaction. Money was refunded within a week as directed.

GENERAL MANAGER, LAGOS STATE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY (LASCOPA) RECEIVES GOLDEN ROLE MODEL AWARD….

The General Manager, Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) Afolabi Solebo Esq. has been awarded a Golden Role Model Award for his Epitome of Humanitarian Service and a 7 star General of the Nigerian youth following an extensive independent survey of His flourishing and outstanding track record by the Nigerian Youth Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative (NYAGGI), a youth organization that is registered with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

Presenting the award today during a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarter, the Organization’s national coordinator, Comrade Alabi Akeem Abiodun, said the award is in honour, appreciation and recognition of personalities whose contribution and sacrifices serves as encouragement for youths to emulate. He added that the organization has recognized Solebo’s unquenchable passion and enthusiasm for building and impacting youths hence his nomination is an undisputable choice for NYAGGI’s meritorious Golden Role Model Award.
In his words, Comrade Alabi said “Ambassador Afolabi Solebo is one out of few Nigerians that fits into this description, a mentor, a role model, pathfinder, leader, philanthropist, legend, a man of character, pillar of support, lover of truth, a man for all seasons, a 360 degree leader with vision, goal getter, and a walking encyclopedia for youths to emulate.
Continuing, Comrade Alabi in his word also described Solebo as a bridge builder, rare gem, beacon, an extra ordinary team player and a cerebral pro personality that penetrates all hearts with so much ease.

Solebo upon receiving the award expressed his gratitude to the Organization and the Governor of Lagos state Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his appointment as the second General Manager of the Agency to serve humanity. While dedicating the award to all staff of LASCOPA for their support, loyalty and dedication, Solebo reiterated his continued commitment to empowering youth towards nation building as an ambassador of the Organization.
