The next governor of Akwa Ibom state

There’s something about Michael Bush’s declaration for governor that has generated genuine excitement. It’s difficult to explain exactly what it is.

Perhaps it’s his personality. He’s approachable, cheerful and seems genuinely positive about life.

Or maybe it’s the network and goodwill he has built over the years - the ease with which he relates to people across different backgrounds and social classes.

For many, it’s easy to picture him as a governor who is visible, accessible and comfortable interacting with ordinary citizens as though he has known them for years. That image creates a sense of optimism.

Perhaps the excitement comes from the belief that his administration could be more transparent, more accessible and less like politics as usual. After all, many people see him as someone whose identity has been shaped more by relationships than by conventional politics.

Whatever the reason, one thing is clear: his declaration has sparked conversations and expectations that are difficult to ignore.

Akwa Ibom State Moves to Ťàckle ìñfìďèlity? Read This First!
The rising rate of ìñfìďèlity is contributing to ßŕòken homes and ùñ_stable families, while others argue that such matters should not attract çŕimiñàl þùñìshment. Whatever your view, this is a conversation worth having.
Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is set to pass into law a bill that would jàìĺ any woman for 10 years for òpùèìñģ with a married man.
I believe the country needs stronger measures to discourage àďù_lteŕý because çàsès of ìñf_!delity appear to be increasing. However, if such a law is ever enacted, then it should not be one-sided. If a married woman has an opueh with another man, or if a married man engages in àďù_lteŕý, the law should apply equally to everyone. Justice should be fair and impartial.
In parts of Nsukka, a married woman who commits àďù_lteŕý would mysteriously ŕùñ m_@d. Whether one believes such traditions or not, they reflect how seriously some communities view marital fìďèlity.
That said, enforcing any law on àďùĺ_lteŕý would be extremely challenging. Most àffà!rs happen in private, and without credible and admissible evidence, proving such in court would be difficult. This is one reason why many people who engage in ìñfìďèlity are never held legally accountable.
What are your thoughts? Should Nigeria have laws that çŕìmìñàlizès àďù_ltèŕý, and if so, should they apply equally to both men and women?
