Uyo, Akwa Ibom hState — September 16, 2026: The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akwa Ibom State has reaffirmed its support for Chief Frank Okon, the party’s senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom South, Eket Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking today, Dr. Bassey Willie, Chairman of the NDC in Akwa Ibom State, expressed his full support for Chief Frank Okon and his aspiration to represent the people of Akwa Ibom South at the Senate. The State Publicity secretary, Mr. Edidiong Umoetor and other State Party executives were present. The party leadership’s position further underscores its commitment to supporting its senatorial candidate as preparations for the forthcoming election continue.

CHILDREN ARE NOT SANITATION OFFICERS: NDC CALLS ON ORO LGA CHAIRMEN TO CLEAN ALL SCHOOL PREMISES AHEAD OF RESUMPTION

The attention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Akwa Ibom State has been drawn to the disturbing practice of using school children as laborers to clear overgrown grasses in school premises across the Oron/Udung Uko/Mbo/Okobo/Urue Offong Oruko Federal Constituency.

On Saturday, our Federal House of Representatives Candidate for the Constituency, Hon. Progress Okuk, took proactive steps by instructing his team to clear the field at Primary School, Eyulor.

Though the field was not scheduled for political use due to security reasons, the gesture was made purely in the interest of the children who are resuming school in that premises.

In the course of clearing, the three men engaged for the job killed six snakes and had only covered a small portion of the field. We were reliably informed that the field had not been touched in over three months.

To ensure the environment was safe, Hon. Progress Okuk paid the sum of N150,000 for professional mowing machines to be used. This was to ensure that our children are not subjected to hard labor and exposed to danger.

It is, however, unfortunate that despite schools resuming, children are still being reduced to sanitation officers in many schools across Oro Nation.

While this statement is not intended to discredit anyone, the NDC hereby calls on ALL the FIVE Local Government Chairmen of Oro to, as a matter of urgency, mobilize resources to have every school premises cleaned and all grasses mowed before full academic activities commence.

Children should NOT be used for hard labor. It is unacceptable and it is UNLAWFUL.

For the avoidance of doubt, this practice contravenes the Child’s Rights Act and international conventions protecting children from hazardous work.

The NDC will be monitoring the five LGAs to ensure strict compliance with these laws. We will also bring the attention of International Child Protection agencies to bear to ensure absolute compliance.

There were no laws in the days of our parents to protect children from such abuse. Today, we have sufficient laws. No one can plead ignorance.

We trust that aides of the various Chairmen who are reading this will convey the message to their principals URGENTLY.

HON. EKAETTE FRIDAY STEPHEN PLEDGES TANGIBLE REWARD SYSTEM FOR ORUK ANAM, SAYS GOVERNANCE WILL NOT BE MEASURED BY BURIALS OR WEDDINGS

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Candidate for Oruk Anam State Constituency, _Hon. Mrs. Ekaette Friday Stephen had pledged to run a government of tangible impact anchored on a reward and empowerment system that benefits all constituents.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement in Oruk Anam, Hon. Ekaette Friday Stephen declared that her representation will not be measured by the number of burials, child dedications, or marriages she attends, but by visible projects, jobs, and policies that improve the lives of the people.

_“My scorecard will be classrooms built, not chairs occupied at ceremonies. It will be youths employed, not just eulogies read. It will be market women empowered, not just rice shared,”_ she stated.

_“I will govern Oruk Anam with a tangible reward system. A system where loyalty to community development, hard work, and enterprise are rewarded with skills, grants, and opportunities not just appearances,”_ she added.

Hon. Ekaette outlined her *7-Point Agenda for Oruk Anam:
1. Oruk Anam Youths & Women Empowerment Fund- _₦500M annual grants and training for SMEs, farmers, and artisans across all 13 wards_
2. Education & Health Intervention - _Scholarships, classroom rehabilitation, and primary health care support in every ward_
3. Ward Infrastructure Tracker- _Quarterly report to the people on projects, budgets, and delivery in all communities_
4. New Weddings Support Scheme - _₦1,000,000 grant to every newly wedded couple during my tenure to aid their new family life_
5. Aged Persons Rehabilitation Fund - _Welfare and healthcare support for our elderly men and women throughout my time in office_
6. Oruk Anam Industrial Factory - _Establishment of a meaningful factory in Oruk Anam LGA to generate revenue and create jobs for graduates and youths_
7. 100-Days Ward Chairmen Empowerment - _Within the first 100 days in office, all Ward Chairmen shall receive empowerment including commercial buses for business pursuit and other Financial assistance.

She reaffirmed her loyalty to the leadership of the party in the state under _Dr. Bassey Willie_ and the Governorship Candidate, _Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Enyong AKA BABANTAN_, noting that the NDC is committed to _“Service to the People.”_

Fellow Party Members and Nigerians,

It is our pleasure to announce that yesterday, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Hon. Justice J. O. Abdulmalik, granted the prayers of the NDC in a suit seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload and utilise our modified digital logo, as contained in our party’s constitution, instead of the association logo with which the NDC was originally registered.

The party had, at our first NEC meeting, approved and forwarded our modified logo to INEC, which subsequently uploaded it. However, without any reason communicated to us, INEC later removed the modified logo and insisted on using the old logo of the association, a position we disagreed with. After giving INEC sufficient time to correct the situation without any action taken, we were compelled to go to court.

We therefore commend the judiciary for its timely intervention and welcome the judgment directing INEC to forthwith upload and utilise our modified digital logo. We commend the judiciary for upholding the party’s legitimate position and ensuring that due process is respected.

We also commend all party members, particularly our candidates, for their patience and understanding throughout this period. We urge all candidates and party members to forthwith adopt and utilise the approved logo in all campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.

I want to assure everyone that the party has experienced and strategic leaders who understand what we are doing. Therefore, nobody should panic. Members are free to raise questions and concerns, but there is absolutely no reason for panic.

We understand that some candidates and party members may have already made arrangements using the other logo, and we regret the inconvenience this may have caused. However, both logos retain the two-finger victory sign. Candidates should now transition to the logo approved in our party’s constitution, which is the authentic party logo and, indeed, the one that is more widely recognised.

We regard the challenges surrounding this matter as part of the administrative machinations we have continued to confront. But we want to assure our members that we are democratic fighters. We do not run away from battles.

We thank God that the judiciary has once again vindicated our position.

Accordingly, from this moment, the party and all its candidates should use and refer to the constitutionally approved modified digital logo in all campaign and party-related materials.

The party will issue a formal statement and embark on appropriate publicity to ensure that all members and candidates are properly guided, while also sensitising the voting public. There is still time to do so.

We thank all our members, candidates and supporters for their patience, understanding and steadfastness.

Together, we remain focused in SERVICE. Together, we move forward.
