2027: Ibiono Ibom Youths Back Tinubu, Gov. Umo Eno, APC Candidates
..Pass Vote of Confidence in Asuakak Umoh
No fewer than 221 Village Youth Presidents across Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area have endorsed the second-term bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, as well as all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The youth leaders also passed a vote of confidence in the Executive Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. (Obong) Asuakak Umoh, citing his commitment to youth development, peace-building and inclusive leadership. The endorsement was made during a meeting attended by youth Presidents from communities across the local government area.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, the Head of the Forum of All Youth Presidents in Ibiono Ibom, Etubom Edem Ita Thompson, reaffirmed the forum's steadfast support for Governor Umo Eno, describing his administration as one that has continued to prioritise youth inclusion, peace and good governance. He said young people across the local government would continue to support policies and programmes that advance the development of Ibiono Ibom.
Thompson also praised the Governor for sustaining peace across Akwa Ibom, preserving the state's rich cultural heritage and implementing people-centred programmes under the ARISE Agenda that have created opportunities for youths across the state.
He eulogized the Ibiono Ibom Council Chairman for maintaining peace and stability in the area despite its boundary with a neighbouring state. Etubom Thompson further appealed to the state government to consider the creation of additional clans in Ibiono Ibom to enhance grassroots administration and development.
The highlight of the meeting was the adoption of a motion endorsing the re-election bids of President Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno and all the candidates of the APC, including the member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency; Hon (Barr) Ime Bassey Okon, the member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon Moses Essien.
The Village Youth Leader of Use Ndon, Elder Victor Etok, who moved the motion, thanked Governor Umo Eno for establishing the Youth Development Centre, empowering young people through various intervention programmes and giving youths greater opportunities to participate in governance.
The motion was seconded by the Village Youth Leader of Ikot Akpan Ididep, Elder Idoreyin Enefiok, who urged youths across the local government area to remain united and continue supporting the three leaders.
Also speaking, the International President of the Ibiono Ibom Welfare and Development Union (IWADU), Prince (Otuekong) Godwin Okon, called on the people to sustain their support for the Governor and the local government chairman, describing their leadership as people-oriented.
Responding, Rt. Hon. Asuakak Umoh thanked the youth leaders for the confidence reposed in him and Governor Umo Eno. He described youths as critical partners in governance and community development, noting that they also play an important role in maintaining peace and security at the grassroots.
The Council Boss used the occasion to reaffirm his administration's commitment to initiatives that would continue to improve the welfare of young people across all the communities in Ibiono Ibom.
