Investing in the future because of our tomorrow... (My Template)

In 1961, while delivering his inaugural speech, President John F. Kennedy in what has now become a reference point in governance made this historic assertion, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". This was an address designed to inspire children and adults to see the importance of civic action and public service. It's been over 60 years this speech was made, however, its content still rings true as it remains a clarion call for citizens to give back to the society in what ever capacity.

With all humility and special thanks to God, I have found myself over the years dovetailing into the aforementioned passage, and I have been very consistent in giving back to the society through moulding our young minds and preparing them for greatness. My name is Akan "Creativity " Ekpenyong and through a nongovernmental platform, AKWA IBOM FUTURE PROFESSIONALS INITIATIVE a.k.a. The Young Professionals, I founded in 2011, I have groomed scores of children to limelight and many are still in the walks.

With my background in Theatre Arts, majoring in creative dramatists from the University of Uyo, i have dedicated the last 11 years of my life to discovering and unearthing many hidden talents in children many of who have gone global. With the support of the state government who regularly engage us with performances, our children have been showcased to the global audience and the recognition has been great.

In my little effort of building the next generation of opinion moulders and leaders, the Young Professionals group boasts of an array of alumni who have distinguished themselves in academics all around the world. Recently, in one of our outings, a visiting Kenyan businessman who was in Uyo for a function, awarded a full time scholarship to one of our mentee having been so overwhelmed by the genius character she displayed on stage.

The Young Professionals has also mentored children parliamentarians and many of them have gone on to become great ambassadors representing the state. Suffice to note that today December 11, 2022, in Abuja, the two parliamentarians representing the state at the National Children's Parliament election are all products of the Young professionals. It's my belief that one of them will emerge victorious to become the Speaker of the National Parliament.

I therefore at this point appreciate His Excellency, the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who has been a great supporter of this group over the years. Thank you also goes his wife, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel for the great support and encouragement she has given to the young professionals group. Wouldn't forget to mention the the Women Affairs Commissioner, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, Education boss, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebiet and of course the Director of Protocol, Akwa Ibom state government house, Mr. Edmond Ufang for their support and encouragement over these years. To God be the glory...!

My take on the Economy:

Economic growth is measured by an increase in gross domestic product (GDP), which is the combined value of all goods and services produced within a state. I am of the opinion that Government should not be the highest employer of labour, but that the private sector should. Suffice saying that world over, businesses drive the economy when they hire workers, raise wages, and invest in growing their business. A company that buys a new manufacturing plant or invests in new technologies creates jobs, spending, which leads to growth in the economy.

It is on this not that our "REBOOT THE ECONOMY AGENDA", will focus on promoting Small Businesses to grow because we believe that once we grow the economy through encouraging SMEs with soft loans and grants, and also attracting Foreign Direct Investments, we would have raised more avenues of generating income for the running of government without waiting for the monthly allocation from the centre. It's also a proven fact that no state can grow with a monolithic economy, so, we will diversify the economy by creating innovative ways that will shift us from largely depending on the central government to finance our fiscal plan. We will also leverage on the industrial revolution of the present government and push the state away from the civil service tag to a fully industrialized society. This we would do by identifying those unique selling points of every community and then set up a factory as needed.

While we are campaigning on the slogan of "...because of our tomorrow," we will not fail to look back at the successful economic plans of successive governments and try to make amends were necessary. Our administration will invest massively in information and communication technology where we will create ICT hubs and ecosystem that give value to our techies. Of course it is a known fact that ICT is the new oil, hence we will look into the completion of the science park .

Akan Ekpenyong on Education:

In our REBOOT AGENDA, we recognize that to meet up with the knowledge-based economy, we must invest massively in vocational education from the primary level to the secondary. This we will do by allocating 20 % of our annual budget allocations to building infrastructure vis-a-vis human capital development.
We can't prepare our younger generation to be part of the global future without investing rightly in their education. Yes, while successive governments since 1999 have done their best, we understand that government is continuum hence, we will build on the existing framework while also rejigging that which needs to be rejigged.

Our agenda for education is anchored on what I call the V-education. This means that we will place so much premium on vocational education right from the public primary schools to public secondary. We will make public schools attractive enough for the elites to patronize by investing massively in infrastructure and human resources. This is why funds would be channelled into building technical schools and reequipping the existing ones and as well employing technical teachers with good remuneration to help build our future generation. Like I've always said, our educational system must be tailored towards identifying talents, and creatives so we can tap the immense resources embedded in our young minds.
