SSDC JOINS PARTNERS AT SOUTH-SOUTH COMMUNITY FOOD BANK & HEALTH OUTREACH

A few weeks ago, the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), as a regional partner of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), joined the Government of Cross River State and other stakeholders in welcoming Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the South-South launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme.

The programme also featured medical outreach activities for pregnant women, nursing mothers and children, bringing together nutrition, maternal and child health, and primary healthcare at the community level.

We appreciate His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, and Her Excellency, Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, for graciously hosting the regional programme and receiving the First Lady, participating States and partners.

Our special appreciation also goes to Dr. Vivienne Mesembe Otu, Director-General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, and her team for their collaboration, coordination and teamwork in delivering the programme. Partnerships across Federal, regional and State institutions are essential to achieving lasting impact for our people.

For SSDC, collaboration is how we take healthcare, nutrition and opportunity closer to our communities.

SSDC CONNECTS WITH RIVERS STAKEHOLDERS, DEEPENS YOUTH PARTICIPATION

The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has continued its strategic stakeholder engagements in Rivers State, strengthening relationships with key institutions and organised groups at the grassroots.

The Rivers State Representative on the Governing Board of the Commission, Engr. Chika Chinda, led the SSDC delegation on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Council and members of his Executive Council. The interaction provided an opportunity to introduce the Commission’s mandate and discuss the importance of collaboration with Local Governments as SSDC advances its development programmes across the State.

In a separate engagement, Engr. Chinda met with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State Chapter, as part of the Commission’s ongoing engagement with the youth constituency across the South-South Region.

The session provided a platform to listen to the perspectives and priorities of young people, while highlighting opportunities for their participation in the Commission’s programmes in human capital development, entrepreneurship, skills development, innovation and other areas of regional advancement.

These engagements reflect SSDC’s commitment to an inclusive approach to development — building relationships with institutions and communities, listening to their priorities and strengthening the partnerships required for effective implementation across the Region.

AKWA IBOM YOUTHS TAKE THEIR PLACE IN SSDC’S DEVELOPMENT CONVERSATION

The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has continued its strategic stakeholders engagement across the region, this time engaging the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, alongside youth leaders and representatives from across the State.

Led by the Akwa Ibom State Representative on the SSDC Governing Board, Hon. Chief Nkereuwem Christopher Ebong, KSJI, the engagement provided an opportunity to introduce the Commission’s mandate, listen directly to the youth constituency and strengthen collaboration around the development priorities of the region.

Hon. Ebong emphasized the important place of young people in the Commission’s development agenda, particularly across skills development, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, human capital development and other empowerment interventions. He encouraged the youths to position themselves to participate meaningfully as SSDC programmes begin to unfold across the region.

The Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, welcomed the initiative and assured the Commission of the cooperation and support of Akwa Ibom youths.

The interactive session also gave youth leaders the opportunity to share their perspectives, priorities and expectations directly with the Commission.

For SSDC, these engagements are about more than introducing a new institution. They are about listening, building partnerships and ensuring that the people who will ultimately benefit from development have a voice in shaping it.

Our youths are not only beneficiaries of development; they are critical partners in building the South-South we envision.

Beyond the Region: SSDC Connects with South-South Youths in FCT

For the South-South Development Commission, our people remain part of the Region’s story wherever they live.

That spirit shaped the Commission’s engagement with the South-South Youth Council in the FCT, led by SSDC Regional Representative, Ozo Joseph Mammel.

The gathering created a platform for interaction with young South-Southerners in the nation’s capital—sharing the vision of the new Commission, hearing their perspectives and building a relationship that keeps them connected to developments back home.

The engagement also reflects an important principle of the SSDC: our geography may define the Region, but it should not limit participation. South-Southerners in the FCT are part of our wider community and have a role to play in the progress of our six States.

It was about connection, belonging and one South-South family.

CROSS RIVER YOUTHS ENGAGE SSDC ON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has continued its grassroots stakeholders engagement across the region with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State Chapter, as part of its ongoing engagement with critical stakeholders.

The event was led by the Cross River State Representative on the Governing Board, Rt. Hon. Larry Odey, who outlined the Commission’s mandate and emphasised the importance of building a strong working relationship with young people as SSDC begins implementing programmes and interventions across the State.

The engagement was attended by the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State Chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Olayi, alongside members of the Youth Council and youth leaders from across the State.

Discussions centred on youth inclusion, skills and human capital development, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities and the role of young people in supporting sustainable development within their communities.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the youths to share their perspectives and priority needs directly with the Commission, strengthening the partnership required for effective implementation at the grassroots.

The engagement forms part of SSDC’s broader consultations with key stakeholder groups across the six States of the South-South Region.

SSDC DEEPENS STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT WITH EDO STATE YOUTH COUNCIL

The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has expanded its ongoing grassroots consultations in Edo State with a Meet-and-Greet involving the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Edo State Chapter, and youth representatives from the 18 Local Government Areas.

Facilitated by the SSDC Edo State Representative, Barr. Femi Oise Agge, the meeting provided an opportunity for young people to share their priorities and aspirations directly with the Commission.

Barr. Agge said the SSDC is committed to ensuring that its interventions are informed by the realities of the people, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, skills development, employment and youth empowerment.

The engagement with the Youth Council follows consultations with traditional institutions and forms part of the Commission’s broader outreach to women, persons with disabilities, civil society, security institutions and other critical groups across the South-South Region.

Edo State NYCN Chairman, Comrade Moses Agwinede Joseph, commended the Commission for creating an early platform for young people to contribute to its development priorities and programmes.

SSDC DEEPENS INCLUSIVE REGIONAL ENGAGEMENT WITH SOUTH-SOUTH TRADITIONAL RULERS IN THE FCT

As part of its ongoing strategic stakeholder engagements across the South-South Region, the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) extended its engagement to the South-South Traditional Rulers resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that the voice of the South-South diaspora remains part of the Region’s development conversation.

The engagement brought together traditional rulers representing communities from the six South-South States in the FCT and provided an opportunity to formally introduce the Commission, communicate its mandate and priorities, and seek the support, cooperation and wise counsel of the traditional institution.

The SSDC delegation was led by the Commission’s Regional Representative, Ozo Joseph Mammel, who anchored the engagement on behalf of the Commission.

The meeting underscored the importance of carrying South-South people outside their home States along in the development process, recognising that the Region’s traditional institutions and communities in the diaspora remain important stakeholders and partners in advancing the social, economic and human capital development of the South-South.

The engagement forms part of the Commission’s broader grassroots stakeholder engagement programme across traditional institutions, youth, women, civil society and other strategic constituencies.

SSDC DEEPENS GRASSROOTS ENGAGEMENT WITH TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN AKWA IBOM STATE

As part of our ongoing stakeholder engagements across the South-South Region, the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) engaged with the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in Uyo.

The SSDC delegation was led by the Akwa Ibom State Representative on the Board, Hon. Chief Nkereuwem Christopher Ebong, KSJI, and included the South-West Representative on the SSDC Board, Dr. Bukola Braimoh.

They were received by His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR, Oku Ibom Ibibio and President-General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council, the Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Abak, HRM Akuku Saviour Sylvester Udofia, alongside other revered Royal Fathers from across the State.

Our traditional institutions remain important partners in our development journey. Their understanding of the communities, their proximity to our people and their role in promoting peace and stability provide an invaluable link between development institutions and the grassroots.

The engagement provided an opportunity to share the SSDC mandate and priorities, hear directly from our Royal Fathers and identify areas where collaboration can support meaningful interventions in infrastructure, agriculture, the blue and marine economy, environmental development, healthcare, human capital development and youth empowerment.

At the SSDC, our approach is simple: listen to the people, understand the peculiar needs of our communities and ensure that our interventions deliver measurable and sustainable impact.

The Royal Fathers welcomed the Commission and pledged their cooperation, while emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement, peace and community participation in achieving lasting development.

We appreciate our revered Royal Fathers for their warm reception, wise counsel and commitment to working with the Commission as we advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and build stronger, more prosperous communities across Akwa Ibom State and the South-South Region.
